Glad to hear everything went well. Gotta wonder though, how many BTC does someone have to transfer before it becomes just as dangerous as doing a $100K+ drug deal?

That is a reasonable question.

If that were the case, I would take additional precautions.

Transferring incrementally, perhaps 100 BTC at a time, with the cash transported to a bank lock box by my courier (or by me if necessary), and the BTC transfers initiated by another assistant from a remote computer on telephone command, with some code words involved.

And the Kryptonite...  Don't forget the Kryptonite.

I think at $1,000 you should bring friends.

Yep - I don't disagree. On the BTC receiving end, you'd probably want to wait around for at least 10-20 minutes for a confirmation or two.

That story turned out good, but for someone to say never sell BTC online implies that all local sales go good. Online offers convenience and physical safety at the very least.

I'm going to set the over/under line of bulldozer operators that accept bitcoins at one.  Something to look forward to is when the rare occurrence is one who doesn't, we have arrived.

I received about $1200 USD worth of Bitcoins while engaged in internet commerce.  I needed some cash to pay a bulldozer operator.

What a shame you couldn't convince the bulldozer operator to accept payment in bitcoins.  I assume you at least asked?

It would be a true shame if he was willing to accept bitcoins, but neither of you thought to mention the possibility to the other.

I asked him.  He does not even have a computer.  And I tried to barter.

That's great, hope that WDC will eventually allow the cryptocoins to arrive before he stopped counting the $$. That way the poor guy would not have to wait for the blocks to confirm (takes an hour sometimes).

Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a cup of tea and a chat!

Nice writeup, seemed to go smooth.

How did you decide the exchange rate? Did you agree to a price before, or during the actual sale? Also, which exchange rate did you use? Mt.Gox?
How many confirmations on the blockchain did he wait before he was satisfied?

Hand-to-hands are the way to do it... (just ask Stringer Bell)  Smiley

I had arrived in the future.

Not yet. You'll be there the day the bulldozer operator gladly accepts your bitcoins. Wink

The future eh? hmm I imagine a bitcoin watch or even a ring that lets you transfer funds by a handshake! lets get this simpler!

thanks for the experience.

That's a pretty cool idea...
First we need gamboy type trading cables that connect 2 USBs and a screen.
