I have been around Bitcoin and cryptocurrency for years. I just recently came new to the forum by my friend. Trying to study and understand how things worked here. So I became aware that positive comments and contribution gets you merited and these merits are mostly given to you by merit sources. I don't know if am wrong, correct me. However, I stalked so e merit source within this few hours and saw that most of them have their different local boards but my country do not have. I am Nigerian and I am curious to ask this question. Why dont we have merit source in our local board.

I felt this topic should be shared here, since it has to do with things regarding the progress of the forum.

Op welcome to the forum, as this is an open forum and everyone of us here are free to speech then I will appreciate your topic. And as a newbie in this forum they need some attention not like this but attention of seeking help by the older forums members.  But what you've wrote above is different which is you are looking for merit source in your local which is pretty sure that many user her win forum will  have a guts that you are not a real newbie sorry but no offend OP that's the truth. Anyways you can still earn merits in global boards if you will help yourself to do such a goo and helpful topics.
Probably the best comment i have heard. And thanks to those who understands all i have shared. I do not feel bad, even if most of the response i got where full of critics and accusation. However, i shared my taughts and insights on other boards and i got a merit. Now i understand how it all works. My previous knowledge was that merit are given by only merit sources, this is the reason why i asked about our local board meeit sources. Now i know it could be anyone, and am not exceptional, i could merit anyone with my smerit. Feels good seing that 1 merit on my profile.

It's obvious people cant read. What do you think is hidden here. I have gone through the individual links I see on the forum. And read all pinned topics. I am not new to technology. I know how to navigate a platform even if I just new it. This is the 21st century there is nothing hidden in search engines. I could know much about the forum if I just asked google to tell me what I need to know.

Technology has really made everything easier and you could have known much about the forum before now to ask such questions on your first post in the forum. If you are just registering new in the forum, it’s believable from your profile but it also looks like you have been a visitor in the forum before registering and saw many activities here before making your first post. You are not a computer machine and no one will believe that you’ve gone through this forum and know much about your local board after just recently registering in the forum.

These things has been discussed many times in different posts made by beginners but there should be the posts through which we can see the different review of the users about different coins. There are many threads you can see related to Cryptocurrency here and you can engage with these talks if you have some problem and if you have some other issues regarding the coin you are interested and you want to invest in. All the things can be explained in a better way by the users who have much knowledge about the questions you asked.

And the merit can be earn by helping each other in a way like giving some users answer that he got fully satisfied and many other things are involved in this which can be studied time to time.

Indeed, this is the 21st century, and if you are exposed to technological advancement, you will be able to navigate through any forum or new environment you come across as long as you can read and understand English and other languages.

Talking about merit awarding and merit sources, it is not only merit sources that give out merit; everyone that has available merits can give out merit to any post they find word of receiving merits. Most local boards do have merit sources, but some local boards are yet to have one. It is not too bad because there are a lot of merit sources in the general board.

But as a beginner, you should focus on knowing how the merit system works and how to make yourself useful to the forum before focusing on such discussions.

This got me thinking, if you continue to merit their posts on the regular basis, maybe theymos might conclude that they don't need more merit and not approve their member's merit source applications?
No, it will not affect, but on the contrary, it will increase the possibility that a new source will be chosen or the balance of the current one will be increased. Updating source members takes place every several years, and the last two times the number of sources in my local board increased to 3, even though most members have enough Merits.

Our LB(Pilipinas doesn’t any merit source either but we are still active in there for local discussion even though merit distribution is not that high compared to the traffic we are giving to the forum.
we have a merit source but our merit source is inactive, it was cabalism13(also, I am not entirely sure but apart from being a mod on our local board mr.big is also a merit source.) But as you know, after the scandal about the bitcointalk charity he stopped being active in the forum. crwth is trying to become a merit source for Pilipinas local board but as far as I know, theymos has not made him into a merit source.

Not as if what you are saying is not important, but as Rikafip has said, some reputable members from Nigeria LB still have their application as a merit source pending, and you probably would have gone over to those threads to support their application. You are yet a newbie, and merit should not be your uttermost aim to be on this forum. Even with or without more merit source from your local board, you can still earn merit from other boards on the forum; that's what can determine how relevant your post is in the community. I happen to be active on the Nigeria LB too, but most of the merit I have earned never came from the NG LB.

Your board has a lot of merit sharing activities which I’m not sure the need for the urgency on merit source while most of the user on your LB has no problem distributing merits without any source.

But I hope @Theymos will pick by himself a merit source one per local board just like what he did on the first merit source that he choose during the introduction of merit since merit source application is very hard to be approved these days.

@Rikafip can give us an analytical view, but through my weekly visits to that LB and the presence of a merit source, I believe that the minimum limits of merit * are met.
Adding more sources would be good, but there is no need to complain at the moment.
Its true, at the moment Nigerian local board is receving enough merit but that's only because you are regularly meriting their posts via your thread. If we remove you from the equation, they will lack merit once again as CryptopreneurBrainboss allocation alone is imho not enough for board of that size.

This got me thinking, if you continue to merit their posts on the regular basis, maybe theymos might conclude that they don't need more merit and not approve their member's merit source applications?

The heck, if you're from Korea, Skandinavisk or other country that has a very low traffic and merit distributions, you're not wrong.

But, Nigeria? you must be joking, there are a lot merit sharing between the Nigerians and a lot merit abuse on there. Of course not all of them, I believe most of the Legendaries are self made, while many of the Hero or lower members are part of a group. Proof? check the receivers and senders on their merit history.

If you are a beginner, you will often be asked about a specific thing or specific content, and if you are just watching the forum, you will not complain about merits, which members who are active here often complain about, especially those who want to join signature campaigns. I have logged in to dozens of forums in order to learn something new, but the forums that I was active in it and it was the only one in which I shared opinions far from the purpose of the forum. There is no shame in asking with your main account, but you must provide evidence proving that your local board does not obtain enough merits.

I agree with @Rikafip because a newbie doesn't know about merits and even doesn't care much about merits because they want to learn things one by one and learning about merits and understanding merits require sometime on the forum. The OP of this threads seems to register his account today and he's so smart that he figured about the local board merit source issue on his first day on the forum.

OP I recommend you to support the applications of those reputed members from your local board who have asked to be appointed as merit sources on your local board. I think that would be a better way to support your local board because if any of them gets accepted as a merit source then that would be helpful for your local board.

Cool story bro.

No legit newbie will care about merit, let alone lack of merit sources in the forum after few hours of browsing. Instead of posting this with your alt account, you should have used your main and bump one of the older threads as you are not doing any favors to your local boart by doing this.

A lot of members from pretty much any rank are scared to contact Theymos via PM, at least if what I receive in my own inbox to be true--they'll keep apologizing for contacting me for a review, even though I've made the offer, etc.  So OP might be an alt who's trying to get Theymos's ear, and personally I don't have a problem with it.
Could be a cultural difference that we share. Members with lower ranks are sometimes timid and do not want to do anything that would cost them their account. Pms are sensitive and can be reported as unsolicited. You never know the state of mind the recipient may be in when reading your message. I can imagine how difficult it would be for a newbie who’s trying to rise in ranks to summon courage and pm Theymos about making forum changes.

You are wrong here as Nigerian local board do have some merit sources

No we do not have a merit source. A couple of users have made requests to be the local board’s merit source but none has been approved yet.

Your country has a local board: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=275.0
How do you know whether you have a merit source or not? There aren't threads on local boards to check who is merit source or not and there is no way newbie knows about merit sources or even more.

You are obviously not a newbie mate and all you have said is totally true. But I see no reason why you should create another account to speck up. You shouldn't be scared to give a positive suggestion here on the forum.

Is Theymos a vampire? Why should someone be scared to contact him via PM or touch any sensitive topic? I don't think it's okay if you are so scared to ask anything from your account that you create alt account but it's even worse when someone creates alt account and claims it's a completely newbie account.

Hey Theymos, could you possibly give us a state of the union address, focusing on the merit system?  Like how you think it's working, how merit sources are performing, and whether you think we need some new ones?  Don't know about anyone else, but I'd sure as hell appreciate it.

You are wrong here as Nigerian local board do have some merit sources but my question to you is that even if your local board has merit sources does not mean that you will get free merits. You need to post worthy of a merit and then the merit sources may award you with merits. ? Just having a merit source in your local board does not mean that you will get rain of merits.

Also if you're posts are good, and your local board does not have a merit source, you will still get merits by individuals. Also if you post outside the local board you can gain merits too so this is not an excuse to not get merits because of the lack of merit sources in the local board.

Just a few hours in the forum and you’ve already been able to survey the forum and observe that they are no merit source in your local board, this is not something that is expected from a newbie account most times we usually get the “help me” post from them. And this just proofs that you’re not a stranger to the forum.
Don't worry, he's a very fast learner  Grin. Sometimes, these users make it so easy to decipher that they are not new but rather using an alt which is not a bad idea to have an alt but I expect that some questions being asked by them are not really necessary.
Op, it's not a crime to wish that your local board have more merit sources but I'd prefer you focus more on growing your presence on here than bothering yourself about merits. I just feel you're more concerned on boosting your account than anything else.
Quote
And like the posts above mine stated, there are several applications for merit source already so you really shouldn’t bother yourself with it as it won’t stop you from getting merits.
If he saw this, this thread wouldn't have been created and which brings me to wonder if he really studied the forum or if he was more interested in making posts.
