Hi guys,

As a lurker i thought this would be a good moment to introduce myself to the forums!
I got into Bitcoins earlier this year, because i work at the legendary De Waag, first cafe/restaurant in the Netherlands that accepted Bitcoins as an alternative payment option.

A very proud bitcoin owner here, and dedicated to hodl for years!

Are there many other places in Holland that accept Bitcoin? I heard about a Thai restaurant in Amsterdam. Any coffeeshops yet?  Grin

Yes! That's true, as many more places were they are being accepted! Coffeeshops i don't know, unless weed and coinz are gonna be 1 hell of a combination...

Isn't it so that you can survive on only bitcoins in Amsterdam nowadays? Get food, shelter, shower etc.

What else can you spend them on? I imagine not much at the moment, but I hopefully this will quickly change.

Are customers a little wary?

And are prices in BTC or your normal country currency

I imagine they'd be pegged to the Euro.

I'm very interested in your cafe, can you explain?

1) What happens when BTC prices rise or drop? Are your prices in BTC, or just your local currency and buyers convert this amount.

2) How long do transactions take

3) How do people pay? Machine...?

1 - it's a risk we are willing to take, and as the numbers are small it's not a big deal anyway. We have some real believers including me. The media attention all over the world we had is priceless, as we were the first cafe ever to accept Bitcoins

2 - transactions are being processed within seconds

3 - We use an iPad for transactions, i have handled many of them myself.

Hi Louis,

That's great that you have witnessed actual BTC payments at the cafe.

I'm in Asia and have not seen a BTC accepting business here...yet.

Cheers,
