Yes have connected my ledger wallet to my pc and unlocked it with my pin, it seems windows not recognizing my ledger wallet, should I reset everything and reinstall the application

Resetting application data / your nano s won't contribute towards your problem. This problem is created by windows. Not the chrome application, neither the nano s itself.

Were you able to replicate these steps?

Try the following (in this specific order):

  • Close any ledger applicatoin running on your PC
  • Disconnect your nano s
  • Open the device manager (Windows-Logo -> 'device manager')
  • Plug your nano s in
  • Look at the device manager for a new device which just appeared (you may have to click 'reload' at the top bar). It should have a yellow exclamation mark
  • Remove (Uninstall) the device from the device manager
  • Open ledger manager
  • Connect your nano s / start the update again

Because this should fix your issue of windows not recognizing the nano s.

Let me know which step doesn't work (and the reason it doesn't work).

I am always asked " To begin please connect your ledger wallet" but is already open

Did you connect your ledger to your PC and have unlocked it with your PIN and have opened the correct application on your nano s device?

If so, windows seems to still not recognize your nano s.
Do you hear a windows-sound when plugging your nano s in/out ? You should hear the 'classical' USB-sound.

I've able to open or do this the first time but after several attempts on the other day, it always failed to load up ... but all the ledger wallet are not opening now this is very strange.

Please be more specific.
What is not opening correctly? Could you please provide more information ? Which step from HCP's guide didn't work for you?
Are you talking about the ledger chrome applications? Or are you talking about the applications on the nano s ?

What cable are you using? You need to use a cable which does have the pins for data transfer (e.g. original ledger cable). Some cables from mobile chargers do NOT have these data pins.

Without a proper description of your problem (where exactly it stops working; what application exactly does not open), we can just guess and repeat anything we already have written.

Thank you for your concern I have merited you all for all the help you have given me and this thread is also a big help for new Nano s user, regarding my concern I am using the cable the manufacturer included in their box, the one that is not opening is the chrome application I am always asked " To begin please connect your ledger wallet" but is already open

I see most of the suggestions are perfectly the solution for your problem.

But if doesn't work yet have you tried to re-install the "ledger wallet bitcoin" app? as HCP suggested, it worked for me when I have encountered almost the same problem.

Do you have Ledger Manager (the one where you install/delete "coin apps") open? If that is open, you won't be able to get the wallet app to work.

Also, you may find that if you've been using Ledger Manager, you will need to close it down and then unplug the device before opening the wallet app and then reconnecting the device. I think it's a weird windows USB quirk that prevents the device from reinitialising if you don't unplug it.

Other than that... the usual Windows driver thing. You can try plugging the device into a different USB port (Windows should do the "installing new device" thing).

Failing that, plug it in... Unlock it and then go into device manager and uninstall it completely. Then disconnect and reconnect the device and Windows should reinstall it.

Thanks to all who help me set this up I finally update my firmwares and Mcu and have also downloaded some applications but I notice that there is a lag or the coin applications are not opening at all, I insert my Nano S and open the coin application but nothing is happening.
Have you also installed the "Ledger Manager Bitcoin" Chrome Extension? (https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps/bitcoin#get-the-apps)

You need to have installed that extension... and have it open when you start the "coin app" on your Ledger. Once you have installed it in Chrome, unplug your Ledger, then try the following:

1. Click the "Apps" link in Chrome:

2. You should get a list of all the installed "Apps":

3. Click the "Ledger Wallet Bitcoin" Apps:

4. It will open the App window and you should be at the "Connect your device" screen:

5. Connect your Ledger Nano S, enter your PIN and then select the "Bitcoin" coin app (click both buttons) on the Ledger Nano S:

6. You should be on the "Use wallet to view accounts" screen:

7. The "Ledger Wallet Bitcoin" Chrome App should then prompt you to select "Bitcoin" or "Bitcoin Cash":

8. It will then prompt for "Legacy" or "SegWit":

9. It will then start "Syncing" your wallet:

10. After a few moments, your wallet will be opened:

I've able to open or do this the first time but after several attempts on the other day, it always failed to load up I tried it several times I now have all the latest version firmware and MCU but all the ledger wallet are not opening now this is very strange.

Generally you have to follow these steps:

  • Open the wallet client on your PC (any client which supports hardware wallets; this can be the ledger chrome applications, electrum, altcoin-wallets with HW support, ..).
  • Then connect and unlock (enter pin) your nano s
  • Open the corresponding application (on your nano s)

Afterwards, your wallet (software on your PC) should show that it has found the nano s.

The exact process depends on the wallet you want to open. For BTC, follow HCP's description.

I just bought my Nano S hardware wallet, I have configured it but need to update it first to be able to use it,
I have followed all the instruction given here
https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002731113-How-to-update-the-Ledger-Nano-S-firmware

but my Nanos device is stuck to update and the ledger wallet site show" To begin connect your Ledger wallet"

How I'm going to fix this

Problem with stuck on update message on Ledger screen is usually caused because of drivers on Windows OS, especially on Windows 7. What you should do is to disconnect Ledger and close Ledger Manager. Then go to Control Panel\System and Security\System > Device manager and under Human Interface Devices - USB Input Device check for any device with yellow mark/click on remove. Then open Ledger Manager and connect Ledger.

You can also check threads for Ledger update firmware 1.4.1 & 1.4.2

I've checked it, Control Panel\System and Security\System > Device manager and under Human Interface Devices - USB Input Device check for any device with yellow mark but there is no device with yellow mark but on other devices there is a yellow mark I disable it but my Nano S is still not working, it is still plugged and it's been two hours but only showing update.

This should fix it. Just a small correction:
The nano s has to be plugged in to appear in the device manager. Afterwards the device will be shown with the yellow exclamation mark.

This bug does occasionally occur on windows devices.

i had the same problem once. i solved it by resetting the wallet and used the seed to recover the previous state.

and if you move this topic in the alternative client sub you may find more help.
How can I do that each time I plug the nano s I am getting the update message instead of the screen where I am asked to fill the pin code, can you direct me to that site might want to check for a fix or make a thread there about this issue.
