As you know - my Blab chat room was intended to be an off-site and private discussion about the awarding of merits, and several merit sources are members. It's a bit quiet at the moment, and only two of us are using it. If anyone wants to influence my merit awarding policy, or any other actions by me, that's probably the best place to do it.

I started a couple of posts about crypto in Venezuela in the Fit to Talk project, and maybe I'll try to give that a boost. I'll offer double merits or something.

[UPDATE] I started the 10 merit Venezuelan crypto project here.

Are all the merit sources getting the same amount every month?
No. Different sources get different amount of sMerits. Some sources get 10 sMerits too. d5000 used to get 10 sMerits, don't know the current amount though.
There are also merit sources receiving only 10 sMerits per month, which isn't exactly helping to solve the problem.
I don't know who are you talking about. I would appreciate you if there was a statement.
I think that applies to the newest group of Merit sources that didn't apply explicitly for that task. Me, for example.

Do we have to use up our source sMerits before we get replenished?
Yes. As per theymos, sMerits should be given out before it get replenished. It's better to spend more amount in a quality post than hoarding it.
~ if they have decent posts, by all means, give them the 250 or 500 merit that they need to rank-up.
Theymos mentioned same message in another post too. I could not able to find it. Will add later if I find.

I've still got a couple of hundred or so for people to take advantage of the Fit to Talk translation project.

The use of Dash in Venezuela
Holy crap!  I know you've received a lot of personal merits, but how do you still have that many sMerits to give out?  I've been a merit source for a couple of months now and have also received quite a few earned merits as well and I haven't even come close to having that many sMerits to give away--and I don't think you're a sMerit hoarder by any means.  Are all the merit sources getting the same amount every month?  Do we have to use up our source sMerits before we get replenished?  That's a little bit off-topic, but I don't recall ever reading an answer to either of those questions except maybe the second one and I can't recall the answer.

I made a post or two about Venezuela citizens using Dash a few months ago, because I thought the situation was an interesting one and that their hyperinflation crisis might be benefited by crypto and had read that more merchants were accepting Dash in that country since the whole debacle began.  I was curious about the extent to which Dash (or any cryptocurrency) is being used in a real-world example of hyperinflation, and I think I asked for some input in my post, but nobody answered my question.  I'm not looking for your merits, but you might want to check the threads I posted in to see if any of the replies deserve some.  Those were in the Economics section, where the posts tend to be better than what you typically find in Altcoin Discussion.

It's one thing to hear that merchant acceptance of Dash has grown by X%, but I want to know how much it's actually being used.  I tried searching the internet for that data, but all the google results spit out Dash-pumping websites or news sources that didn't answer my question.  Jet Cash, if you come across a thread or post that has anything about this, keep me in mind and drop me a PM if you would.  I have Altcoin Discussion on ignore and might miss a new thread about it (I did search that section when I was trying to read about the Dash/Venezuela thing).

The best way is to put them on your ignore list. Dick head will always be a dick head, they are the so-called who "only care about post counts". Better if they will be purge in an instant.

You have actually done something similar in the past.

I think I read that a couple of members had modified their behaviour as a result of that thread, and this is what prompted me to do it again. I skip posts that have full quotes, and I may miss some good replies as a result of this. I suspect that the guys who were prepared to modify their behaviour after reflection, are the ones who's post I want to read. Hopefully that thread, and the associated publicity will cause another half dozen members to make their replies easier to read.

With regards to my sMerits. I only gave away a few there in order to make a point. I've still got a couple of hundred or so for people to take advantage of the Fit to Talk translation project.

Some topics I'd like to hear about are-

The use of Dash in Venezuela
The use and advantages of SegWit addresses
Bitcoin and crypto for the un-banked
Wallet security without using a hardware wallet.
Alternatives to simple coin purchases to built a crypto investment portfolio.
Crypto in countries with failed fiat currencies.

When I saw the title to that post you referring to I got interested myself but on reading the post I was completely in a disdain mood.

The point is that some member of the forum should try and stick to there local board on till they are good enough to provide an at least OK post

You'll have to be on a side: good poster or shitspammer.

You're seriously underestimating me.

And it didn't still seem to deter them(quote abusers) it's just an Indication that people will keep quoting and you'll keep meriting undeserved shitposters, and they'll keep ranking up to earn higher in here from the very same shitposting.

I understand you wanted to make a point, but in this forum today, most users pay less attention to that, they just do as they please

OP's will be having trouble with that as I can see from the future head on. That will be a seriously hard task for him. Neither the other members. Dick Heads aren't that simple to distiguish, some of them are having a disguise from their posts.

And that will only leave you from your mistakes before on giving Merits to the fakes.
And foremost, I can see now those who'll be receiving Merits. (Only those Old Forum Members)

P.S. Good Luck JC

For anyone who doesn't understand the merit system here, here is an article I wrote 6 months ago.
https://talkmerit.com/the-source/index.php/articles/the-bitcoin-talk-merit-system

This year is going to be a year that I actually do things instead of just talking about it. I've ordered a new 2Tb SSD (£460 off the retail price in a boxing day sale), so Windows will be gone over the next few days. I'll probably install Ubuntu Studio, and do more content production to earn some Steem and BAT. Maybe I'll put Kali on the netbook to experiment with various wallets. It's time i inhabited the tech boards here. That's where the knowledge seems to be.

I hope that this thread, and the one that prompted my post, get some publicity. Lets make Bitcoin Talk an information exchange, and a discussion forum, and not a test of mouse dexterity.

I propose to add Dick Head as a rank. As opposed to sMerit, we could add dhMerits for spammers and DHs.

Edit: let's all try and make 2019 the year of getting our real crypto forum back (instead of the Merit and Spam forum).

OH YES OH YES

That's actually a freaking good idea!
sMerit is here to point out good posters. And that's a great system.
But how we implemant another kind of merit to point out shitposters? The benefit would be that no one can be basically neutral. You'll have to be on a side: good poster or shitspammer.

Because now a lots of people are shitposting and just... Well not getting merit but that's all. Not that helpful I would say.

Yeah and it looks like you are spreading a gift in that posts with your merits. Absolutely I do not really understand how merit system works and probably it is only a due diligence of a merit sender of whom to give merits or not a merely discretion on his/her part. But, why do some members complain about the giving of merits like they always say that they are not please with the other user on how they give the merits? Anyway, that was like an merit airdrop you gave to that thread.

I was making a point. That's why I only gave one merit. I agree that the topic I suggested would have been better, and that thread had no merit in itself. However, if it persuades someone to stop these endless quotes ( and images ). then it will have been worth it in my opinion.

I'd like more of the boards in the Bitcoin Talk forum to become intelligent discussions between informed members, and hopefully they won't assume that we all have Alzheimer's.

You ended up meriting a lot of shitposts in that thread.
It's not the first time.
I don't think someone should make it a criteria while meriting a post. It dismisses the purpose of the whole merit system. It's a kind of giveaway and JC don't like merit giveaway too, afaik.

I would merit a long quoted poorly formatted post as apposed of a short answer with  no content or quality.

in fact this reply > https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.46684103

has the best answer IMO , as not so many people know that google has this function where you can search for this exact verse "1 btc to eur" and you get something like this

if i really wanted to merit anybody in the thread it would be him, regardless of his poor quotation skills.

since we do not pay these people to write, and it's not school then what matters the most is the piece of information inside the post.

Their English skills shouldn't matter neither their writing style or use of quotes.

if you visit the mining board you see many people with bad English, poor writing style and terrible use of quotations yet perfect solutions to major problems.

while I would encourage everybody to learn to type a better "looking" overall posts ,I am totally against this way of judging quality posts.

You ended up meriting a lot of shitposts in that thread.  People quoting huge blocks of text or only the OP in threads may be annoying, but giving out merits just because they didn't isn't a very good way to distribute your sMerits IMO.  That was a stupid thread to begin with (but hey, it's B&H, right?), and I bet that at least some of the replies were by alts of the OP.

Hopefully your new year's resolution isn't to lower your standards as much as you did in the linked thread.  I don't know how many sMerits you get as a source and from other members, but you'll run out of them pretty damn quick if you keep doing that.

Looking at the merit given in that thread, you're actually just promoting megathreads...?

The, i do this X, do you also do it X or not-esque questions.

To which each user responds with some rehashed answer of the previous poster that contains something along the lines of, No, I do it Y, or as i said, a rehashed answer....

There are various ways to check the price of bitcoin some wallet even has section where you can see the current prices but the most trusted way of finding out the price of bitcoin is searching coinmarketcap.Com this shows you the price value, volume and supply of bitcoin and top 99 altcoin in the cryptocurrency world

<....>
then you can also check https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/#markets  for an overview of differently based exchanges.

I think that everyone looks at the average price at https://coinmarketcap.com/
<..>

But whatever, you do you.
