Damn, I showed up to the party late.

That is a real shame that someone did that. I wish we had a little more details on the threat.

They can't be, see craigslist. If "good faith" efforts are made to remove illegal stuff, the site can't be legally shut down.

The info on the WHOIS seems to indicate an apartment or office building if the street view is pointed correctly. And the site ran entirely off donations (and probably subsidy from a real business) so what's to blackmail?

I think something illegal posted on the site may have come to the notice of any authority and he got some mail. So got spooked and closed the site.

p.s. I think site owners should not be held responsible for user's wrong doings.

Looks like all the personal residential details of Joost de Meij is available on the site whois. But why on earth someone will receive a personal threat for running a classified ? Moreover, why will he shut down for the same ?

Some people are just hungry for money, and if they see an easy opportunity like this one, I mean why wouldn't they take it? Like finding money on the ground that you saw someone just drop.

Status update:

- I did a lot of design work, after all, using the website should look inviting.
- A small bug was fixed where sometimes a user couldn't reply to an ad
- More ads are shown on the index page
- Searchresults are now displayed correctly

There will be sections for all ad categories, and I will need to do a lot more work on the index pages and classified pages. There's also basic support for translations, but I need to put more strings in there. Currently only 'Click here' is translated in dutch. Cheesy

I would love more people placing ads on the site, but that takes some more time I guess. In mean time I can finish the site completely.

The site is looking really good.  Nice work.  I assume that you are going to add different sections at some point and a list view.

Now we just need to get people using the site.  C'mon folks, post something!

I really appreciate the contributions i've received!

Thanks for the bug report JamezQ, i've updated the text. It is now possible to make edits to classifieds you've posted, and JamezQ, your ad now shows up in the list with the other ads.
