hows the customer service? i heard they re very 'helpful'

Yes OP, please send an email to Opencoin and ask them to help you out. See if they will reverse the transaction, or reimburse your loss from the billions of XRP they hold.

tbh, I do not expect such an outcome, but I am extremely interested in what their answer would be to such a mail. Would be awesome if you could post it here. In the best scenario, you get your XRP back, in the worst you waste a few minutes on writing a mail - it's worth a try I think.

1,000,000 XRP has a current market value of 150 BTC

Did you spend over $15,000 buying XRP?

I bought it with over 100 BTC.

The most important thing at the moment is to double check your computer to see if there is any trojan or virus causing this.   Better secure your wallets.

Can Opencoin reverse transactions if you ask them to?
Since they control all of the servers, technically they can do anything.

Of course if they started reversing transactions, I guess confidence in Ripple would zero quite quickly.

At most you could expect OpenCoin to reimburse some XRP taking them from their account, but I wouldn't bet on that.

I have asked these questions before, but didn't get an answer:

Can Opencoin reverse transactions if you ask them to? Could a lawyer help to make them return stolen funds?

How much control does Opencoin have over XRP transactions in general? Can a rogue employee transfer XRP from accounts of others to his own?

 Huh

Here are some vague ideas from a Ripple developer about how recent hacks have been done.  Basically it's weak passphrases, but apparently there are some other issues they're not disclosing right now until they can be fixed.

OP don't cry, you got them for free, someone took them for free.

I doubt he obtained 1 million XRP without paying something. Biggest giveaway was 50K (that I can see publicly).

No need to suspect OP, he can afford that, otherwise let's stay on topic, what's stopping Opencoin from implementing cold storage?
They way ripple works, AFAIK, all the wallets are distributed online, and your "password" is basically the passphrase you use to decrypt it.
That's why you can't neither change password nor store them online: because anyway you have no guarantee that some server didn't just keep a copy.

That's what you get for not using wallets not connected to the internet. Herp derp.

Scary.

The ripple community is so small, I would think it would be hard to sell stolen Ripple without being identified...

That is such a large amount that I hope the guys at opencoin can help you track it!

Maybe someone guessed your password, login and send to himself?  Maybe you can check anyway to report and who to report to and try to reverse that transaction?

I think there is a way to cold store your XRP.  I recall asking about that or adding 2FA to the web client and someone posted some links.  I'm sure one of the Ripple guys will respond soon but why would invest that much without knowing this?

So, BTC is a better store of value than XRP, because you can put it in a secure off-line wallet.
