There are two useful section from where you can learn about trading and investment.

Trading Discussion: Read pin threads first so you may get basic knowledge of that specific section and related. You may read other threads started by users on same section.

Currency exchange: This section is the place to buy and sell coins. you may read threads of successfull trades, scam trades and other related things.

Here my personal advice on how to keep yourself safe and learned.

Always use Escrow, doesn't matter how old member he is.

Always read threads related to your interest.

Keep asking your queries and questions, it will not only increase your knowledge, it will also help others to learn more about things.

Follow following helpful threads;

@op you should read threads here in the forum especially guides, tips and information threads to learn about bitcoin from basic to complicated ones. One thing to remember is don't trust anyone easily and don't fall from an offer that said your coins will be doubled within a week. Tips are also important to know as it will help you to identify a scammer, scam project, ponzi schemes and also you can learn on how to keep yourself safe from possible attacks or falling into a trap.

1. Don't Trust random users, Always verify & Use Escrow.
2. One of the few problems with new bitcoin investors they trade with emotion. Since you're New you will need a bit of time to learn how the market growing. Be careful with Bankroll Management & don't invest what you can't afford to lose.
3. Be patient.
4. So many scams here & there So you should keep your eyes open. Before you invest in any coins or IEO or anything do proper research. post on the forum or use google.
5. Read the sticky threads on the various board.
6. Bitcoin is the same as USD so don't think it's easy to own bitcoin. Don't believe 2x/5x/10x in 24hrs (Scams)
7. Be Safe Welcome to the community.

On the flip side I think it hurts to be over skeptical.  I missed out on a lot of big gains on altcoins because I fell for the FUD that people were spreading.

Op, just be wary of shills and it works in both ways, they can try to get newbies to sell their coins for cheap while they accumulate slowly.

I think the forum is pretty straightforward for you to be guided towards it. With all the topics put into the right section all you have to do is to either search it within the forum or use Google as a search tool for the topics. If you haven't find exactly the topic you are looking for or any topic anywhere near it then you can create a topic of your own. If you are done with the Beginners and Help section you can go to either the Trading Discussion and the Speculation section to learn some things about investing in the crypto market.

[GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread (until there is a dedicated subforum?)
The topic contains lots of guides, topics on technical issues and other things in crypto, that are helpful for you. No matter what you do trading or investment, you should know how to secure your accounts, your funds, and your private keys as well as 2FA backups; and you surely can find them in that topic. No matter how much you win from trading or investment, you might lose them all if you are not able to secure your accounts.

you can learn trading better from investopedia or babypips, and do lots of practice after that. this forum is mainly about crypto discussion, and there are no in-depth and 101 guides for trading.

doesn't matter which site or resources you used to learn about trading, you always need to practice as many times as possible.

There is basically one way to start, and that is to start reading around, searching for information, browsing through the threads, and gradually starting to build a personal view on what to do based both on the information you find, and your personal character (i.e. whether you are adverse or prone to risk, to what degree and so on). Make time your first investment.

There are plenty of threads with information (and some misleading overhyped or spammy misinformation), and you need to develop a radar to discern one kind of post form another.
Recently someone asked a similar question, and got a few decent initial hints there (see Starting crypto trading, the first stages to be successful). There is a particular link there to a forex based training site which I find interesting to begin with for trading (read through the referenced thread to spot it).

I agree with Crypto Girl. Trading shouldn't be your main concern right now. Many people start trading regularly and buying into the hype without having any background knowledge whatsoever. Buying bitcoin with the intent of holding it for a few years is OK. That is an investment. But buying different Alt coins and expecting a profit can turn out ugly if you don't know what you are doing.

You learn about anything regarding bitcoin by doing research, and that can be outside Bitcointalk. Simply just use your favorite search engine to look for reading material, and just ask here on Bitcointalk if there are things you don't understand(after consulting Google first).
