What are those "too many better options"?

Hey guys, I've been around but just too lazy to post. This is still my fav thread - I use it to teach people who are new to cryptos how groupthink and mass delusion work. While interest in NEM and its price continue to decline (rightfully so as NEM doesn't bring anything new to the table), there are actually people here who think one day they will be selling their NEM for $1 each!

Basically, when more and more people start posting about how a coin is the future, how a price explosion is imminent, how big news is right around the corner, etc. while volume and price decline, that is a strong indicator to dump  your bag and move on  Grin

http://s22.postimg.org/7ydx3i4kt/shitcoin.png

wtf your logo, is that a NEM-turd?  Cheesy

It's the universal symbol for "shitcoin"  Smiley

But NEM is not a shitcoin? Huh

I have to disagree with you there. If you look at Coinmarketcap, you will see that shitcoins such as "Rimbit", "Faircoin", "Dnotes" and even "BitcoinDark" all have higher marketcaps than NEM.

If you want to peer into the future of NEM, just visit the Node, Crypti and Quora threads. It is always the same pattern - huge hype, major pump in price, and then as people start realizing it's just another shitcoin, declining interest in the thread, declining volume, and of course, declining price.

Don't fall for the promise of new features either - the NEM devs could program a virtual hand to pop out of the screen and stroke you off and it still wouldn't save NEM. The market is oversaturated and there are simply too many better options out there.

XEM has not had any unintentional forks or high profiled thefts yet.

That's because its not really on anybody's radar (except us). And all the coins in my list are examples of _successful_ cryptos! Its not really a matter of opinion.

XEM will soon be known as the most secure and safest cryptocurrency.

Assuming you're right - and I hope that you are - what does it matter if nobody accepts it as a legitimate form of tender?

Once users come in, the train will not be coming back to the station.

That's a big "once."

Why should users start coming in?

Bitcoin
Counterparty
NXT
Bitshares
Dash

all have amazing, novel features already up-and-running. Honestly I think NEM could benefit from some good, old-fashioned PR, trying to attract audiences that have avoided the crypto craze up until now. Give them a reason to use NEM that is non-speculative in nature. Why will people pick NEM?

I was talking about XEM.  Those projects you mentioned are years old and, historical precedent for the internet companies and tech companies, if something does not take off in its' first year then it likely never will.  All those projects you mentioned are now years old.  A lot of them also had catastrophic failures in their first year: unintentional forks and high profiled thefts.  If you read the FUD in mainstream media about Bitcoin then you would know wallet security (or perception of the lack thereof) has inhibited further adoption.  Some of those aforementioned projects also had unintentional forks and thefts as recently as some months ago!

XEM has not had any unintentional forks or high profiled thefts yet.  This is already very marketable and it will be even more so in the upcoming months.  XEM will soon be known as the most secure and safest cryptocurrency.

no multisig

I admittedly spoke too soon. I'm right about all the other features that are lacking, though.

NEM is everything you secretly wanted from bitcoin/cp/NxT/BS/dash. It's faster, more secure, and has a programmatic API that is easier to use. Developers should find the NEM API very simple: http://bob.nem.ninja/docs/
no multisig

Ummm.... No AE, no marketplace, no multisig, no anon features, no Auto-DACs... There's a lot missing from NEM.

I know, I know, most of that is "in development," but its not real until it exists. Can you dig it?

Still... the question remains: what would cause the ordinary human to pick NEM over BTC or a hundred other alternatives? My answer would be merchant adoption. I would try to hammer that area instead of just advertising to the same group of cryptonerds who have been coming here for years.

If I have some spare time, maybe I will start a sports book for NFL (the only professional sport I really follow) that uses NEM to place wagers. It would have been better for the world cup or olympics I suppose.

I am not Dorian Nakamoto.
NEM has always been very "avant garde".

This can be a good thing as NEM is addressing the limitations and concerns of cryptocurrency and is remedying solutions.  This remediation is something absent in Bitcoin and virtually every alternate.   There could be remediation behind closed doors but without transparency then we do not know.  Given the past years of cryptocurrency, my own assumption is nothing is happening beyond bug fixes and foundations cutting fat checks.  The FX debate, and how it splintered the Bitcoin developers, at minimum indicates a chaotic developer regime that could had gone back years.

NEM has always been very "avant garde".

This can also be a bad thing when people come on this thread to whine about cryptocurrency (including all the alts and possibly Bitcoin) is not going anywhere and thus it sets a bad depressive vibe on this thread.  This is an unnecessary distraction and if it continues then it may have to be moderated.  Practically most of the top 20 cryptocurrencies have very repressive and moderated threads or external forums where they absolutely do not tolerate these things.   I don't want to name names but at least one name I have seen here was banned from the NXT forum for being maniac depressive (internet forums, and especially this thread, are not substitutes for a psychiatrist or medication prescribed by a licensed health professional).

The one exception is Bitcoin and it is because Bitcoin can't be brought down by a few forum trolls or by people suffering from manic depression.  There were people fudding on this forum back in 2011 and earlier and it did not stop Bitcoin.

This will be true for alternates when they finally get mainstream coverage and adoption beyond 10,000 users.

NEM is working on it.  XEM is only 3-4 months old and V1 is out soon.  XEM is a 2015 release and it is the best performing 2015 release.    Once users come in, the train will not be coming back to the station.

NEM is the hipster of crypto currency of choice. Maybe we should partner with Weezer and Pabst for our marketing campaign.

People who are heavily invested in this project should concentrate on gaining mass adoption... everything else is a distant second.

NEM is a perfectly simple system for transferring digital currency. It has an enticing graphical interface, rather simple installation procedure and a pack of useful features to come, but out of the hundreds of competitors that already exist, what separates NEM from the pack? Why should people use NEM instead of bitcoin, or blackcoin, or blackdogebitcoin?

I don't mean to sound generic, but perhaps a NEM casino would be a good first step. Maybe a NEM E-Bay or integration as an in-game currency. Give people something to do with their NEM besides HODL and hope its the next bitcoin. (you know that's what 99% of all holders are doing).

Don't look at me -- I threw mere pennies into this thing compared to some of you. I'm just sayin', you want NEM to be successful? Then remember these 3 Rules For Crypto Success:

1. Adoption
2. Adoption, and
3. Adoption

Things are progressing much better than I could have anticipated, as will become apparent in the coming weeks (a lot of stuff isn't yet ready to be disclosed, so watch out for the NEM ninjas).

You missed what I said. Development and adding features does not guarantee success. Qora added AT, that should have been biggest news, but it generated zero interest.

We know you lost faith in crypto, even Bitcoin, so why come and talk to us about it?
