We all know utopian created a bunch of sock puppets. Old story.

There ya go.

https://www.facebook.com/ourNEM/posts/sadly-today-utopian-future-was-accused-of-having-a-sock-puppet-account-he-has-ad/251908745000131/

I don't get why he didn't just claim a certain number openly for himself. I seem to remember him saying he did it to keep interest going when the sign up thread was very young.

Five years ago now. No one should give a shit no more.

Remember kodtycoon? He sold his account a while back -- must have cashed out early than either one of us!

I have never seen one human being make more sig campaign applications.

yes, I know that post.
And there is the statement "I had a few sockpuppet accounts but I have no intention of cashing out any of them. I did not write down the sock accounts (using an arbitrary password that I can't remember) neither and plan to donate the fees for the development fund. I created sock accounts to keep the thread at a high demand when we have few supporters",
which I meant by saying "profiles were for populating the site(s), not for claming stakes".

My first comment was against nutildah's "to get more stakes".

- "... some extra profiles to get some activity to the new coin - not getting stakes."

The term sockpuppet I saw first time, when the NEM stake claming started. And because there is not proven that Utopianfuture has used sockpuppets to claim stakes, then I think that he had no 'sockpuppets, just extra 'profiles'.

Utopian could have just been open about it and assigned himself some stakes, no one was going to argue with him about it.

kodtycoon made a few statements of regret from selling early if I remember correctly, and that was during the $0.20 USD run NEM had about 1+years before 2017.

Remembering now, many of the devs gave themselves extra stakes and no one argued about it. Problem was when utopian decided to be deceitful, but who cares. That's ancient history in crypto time.

The term "sockpuppet" was used in the stake claiming process, not if someone has many profiles.
Utopianfuture's profiles were for populating the site(s), not for claming stakes. That was in his last statements.

Show the link, where is proven that Utopianfuture had sockpuppets for claming stakes.

To all the guys who have been here from the start of nem announcement, how many cashed out more than a million $ (or several million) during 2017-2018 peak time?

I confess I did Smiley Despite all the bashing I did at nem and nem developers back in 2014-15, thank you guys.  People forget that I owned nem stakes even when I was trolling a lot here.

Ethereum was good too.

I still own a lot of nem.

If only I had held on to my stake for 1.5 more years, I would have been in the same boat as you. Alas, I settled for a 10x profit as opposed to a 500x profit.

What's funny is I trolled here quite a bit too in the early days. I rarely click on this thread but I did today because I recognized your name. Remember kodtycoon? He sold his account a while back -- must have cashed out early than either one of us!

I still kick myself for not holding longer from time to time but ultimately its just one of those "woulda, shoulda" type deals.

Guys what were your agenda here back then?! Why were you trolling?
Was it to lower the price and buy more XEM cheaper or what?

Nope, I've never engaged in that tactic. As things are now, the forum was rife with scams even back in those days. There was a big to-do with the original dev, UtopianFuture, creating a bunch of sockpuppet accounts in order to get more stakes -- kind of went against his whole idealist philosophy of a "fairly distributed" coin.

So, trust wasn't very high. Of course NEM went on to achieve levels of success most of us never thought were imaginable.

I also used to refer to Ethereum as "Disappeareum" before its launch because it took so damn long to release... Whoops.

not true.
I have seen that he admitted to have some extra profiles to get some activity to the new coin - not getting stakes.

I m not sure. I wasn't happy about developers keeping unclaimed stakes. Also, Nem was started by guys who were involved in nxt, and most of the people here came from nxt. But some of the new nem stakeholders were loudmouth nxt bashers, and that would piss me off too. I am not sure the exact reason why I wasn't that enthusiastic. I owned a lot of nem stakes too so why would I want to lower the price? I just didn't care and didn't expect nem (and everything else too as I owned  ETH and BTC) to go that high n 2017-2018. I had been buying crypto since 2013 and 2017-2018 was the first time I ever sold anything. I never thought about selling until I saw several million potential $. That also means I would have not sold anything if the prices hadn't gone that high.

well, I do not buy your writings Wink
But cannot blame me on that Smiley

what does that link suppose to mean? Yeah, I thought nem would continue to fall, so what?  I already admitted I wasn't that enthusiastic and didn't care.

Nice for you.  Pity that i haven't cashed out some I thought it could go higher.  Undecided
How have you done that?
Were you going trough XEM/BTC => BTC/TUSD and then to USD?

Yes, XEM to BTC and then to USD using gemini.com and I did it in Dec 2017 and January 2018 which luckily turned out to be the right time anyway. Same with Ethereum, NXT and a few other things I had.  I paid the taxes early too in March both for 2017 and 2018 -- estimate tax for 2018--  (which was like 20% capital gain tax).

I still have some BTC and XEM and ETH but I am not planning to sell anything for the next 3 to 4 years,  even if the price goes back to $1. Maybe 3 or 4 dollars, then yes, but otherwise I am good.

It costs $5k USD to attack Ethereum Classic, $90k to attack Ethereum, and $280k to attack Bitcoin, and $260,000,000 to attack NEM. POW chains have basically nothing at stake, but in POI, there is A LOT at stake if you want to attack.

Define attack. 51% attack?

Would you mind sharing the link from which you get those estimated costs to attack networks, ETC, ETH, BTC, and NEM, please.
I guess that the costs for attacking will change considerably at different period, depends on both total networks' hashrates, price of coins, and some other components.
