How are projects being developed on the private chain going to influence the value (and then price) of XEM? Could somebody elaborate on this? How are the two chains linked and is there an immediate way in which value added to private chain will translate to value added to XEM?

THX! After having been very harsh on this project, I must say I'm impressed with the behind the scenes work towards real world integration - I am forced to reconsider my previous position. Congratulations to the team so far.

I posted this before, but this explains the strategy of the private/public chain combo:
(this VC believes there will be a constellation of chains ... watch for about 5 minutes)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9CjWz2N5Hs&feature=youtu.be&t=58m22s

Mijin has only been positive for NEM and building awareness.  Over 100 companies are experimenting right now with Mijin and use test cases.  Very likely these private chains will need to connect to other private chains via a public one.  With the same API's and platform enter NEM.

Also it has been discussed that possibly registering namespaces/mosaics in the future will require cross-chain interaction.

same question here.

but it applys to ripple as well.

I've only been here a few days and am no authority on anything XEM

However I remember something about smart contracts (once implemented) traversing the private mijin chain and the public NEM chain.
There is more generally the cross-pollination of development between the networks, and their potential synergy. Where necessary or suitable the private and public chains may communicate.

This is my understanding.
Please correct me if wrong.

Sounds pretty accurate to me.
There's also the thing that mijin isn't going to be free. So any company that can live with the downsides of a public blockchain can have mijin for free by simply using NEM. The APIs are 100% identical so if they tested mijin (i understand there are a bunch of trials running right now, i think i saw the number 50 a few pages back) they can resue all their previous code.

Cool, thanks for the confirm

Here, I found the reference:

Quote
Also, within 2016, it is planned to be able to execute smart contracts across Mijin blockchains, by communicating via the main NEM chain.
http://mijin.io/en/73.html

SO NEM is literally at the heart of it, I guess Smiley

here comes the real English report:

GMO INTERNET and Tech Bureau jointly develop PaaS backend engine with blockchain technology
gmo-internet-logoGMO INTERNET formed a business alliance with Tech Bureau on February 1, 2016 to jointly develop back-end engine for games based on Tech Bureau’s private blockchain technology, “mijin”. Tech Bureau is a crypto-FinTech firm and also operates bitcoin exchange, “Zaif Exchange”. The mijin was developed to dramatically reduce infrastructure cost for financial companies to less than one-tenth by 2018.

techbureau-logoBlockchain technology is the latest remarkable technology in FinTech industry. By utilizing the technology into back-end engine for games, the companies believe that zero-downtime environment can be realized with less than half the operating cost. GMO INTERNET plans to launch the PaaS backend engine this fall at GMO app cloud which is a cloud service for gaming app and has been working on expanding its service responding to the needs of game and app developers.

As P2P network built by the blockchain technology is considered to provide zero-downtime environment and reduce the cost, the mijin is expected to grow in not only financial service industry but also other areas.

In addition to realizing zero-downtime environment, the new development will allow gaming operators to closely manage data saving and remove users conducting misuse and manipulation as all data in blockchain can be managed by keys of cryptographic technology. The technology also can prevent abuse of the data and inconsistent data.

a serious question  Grin

in which way NEM differs itself from ethereum or ripple or any dominant player?

i got growing interest in NEM

Ethereum purports to do everything but yet to show some real smart contract stuff that warrants any attention. One project launched recently (https://dgx.io/) is only a simple proof of concept that some other projects, including NEM can easily do.

Ripple is purely token shifting.

NEM is different from Ethereum as it is a running project that makes it so easy for block chain solutions to be created. NEM is available in two flavors, the public domain version and the private domain version, i.e., mijin. For more info, go to nem.io

impressive.  such low profile,

mijin private cloud is real revolution. can't wait to see what it will turn to.

I guess it's best for you to choose one of the listed hosts. Try to stick with the same host because local storage (which is where your wallet will be stored) works on a per domain basis. So if you switch host you're gonna have to re-create the wallet (which isn't a big deal so long as you have the priv-key and/or password handy).

Great, thanks for the help

I have an original stake in a wallet with the keys, but I've never managed to get the client working on my Mac or PC. Is there a way to access them without having to install the Client? Not sure what to do with the files downloaded from Github. As you can tell I don't really know what I'm doing, but would like to access the coins.

Try the lightwallet. Can't do much wrong there http://bob.nem.ninja/lightwallet-standalone-1.7-cdn-nginx1.8.zip .

You can also try http://bob.nem.ninja:7777 but it's recommended to run it locally for security reasons. bob is a node run by a dev though so you should be fine there.

Thanks, seem to have Lighwallet running, and I've read the tutorial on the site, am I meant to choose one of the hosts or use the custom node? Not sure what the different host names represent.
