If you are concerned with security why use Windows in the first place? Switch to linux.
This. Windows 7 is old and soon to be unsupported. Using it is a security risk. Windows 10 is a privacy nightmare, and more or less everything you do on it is being tracked by Microsoft, even if you turn off all available telemetry options. You are stuck between a rock and a hard place if you want to choose one.

If you want both a private and secure OS, you should be looking at Linux.

Also, you can use your Ledger Nano without Ledger Live, for example with Electrum, on Windows 7. Ledger Live is actually inferior to many other compatible clients in terms of features offered.

Theoretically they can do the same for your other financial information or private data, why would they do that for your crypto only?
That option is gone anyway if you use a hardware wallet where the seed words have never been saved on your PC or been uploaded to the Internet in any way.

I've found out that Ledger Live does not work with Windows 7, neither possibly with other old OS. This is quite creepy since it presses Windows users to upgrade their OS to the latest releases of Windows, which are becoming more and more intrusive as far as privacy is concerned. In other words, if you buy cryptocurrencies for reasons of personal monetary souveranity and privacy, then if you store them on Ledger you have to give up part of your privacy upgading to a more intrusive OS, which does not even allow you to disable automatic updates. Theoretically, Windows may one day push an un update which acts as a virus and captures all your Ledger Live data and sends it to Microsoft and-or to some state agency or, even worse, finds a way to confiscate all your cryptos on some agency's behalf.
Not a good idea at all to push users to upgrage to latest Windows if they want to use their Nano Ledgers.

FWIW Ledger Nano X is finally shipping.

I received my pre-order on Friday.

It arrived with a low battery warning.  I left it plugged into my computer's USB port for a few hours before the low battery warning went away.

I restored mine with the my Nano S recovery phrase.  Worked like a charm.

Used Ledger Live to add another coin group that would not fit on my Nano S.  Moved the coins from Coinomi to Ledger X.  Worked as expected.

Overall I am very pleased.

Thanks for your feedback. if you should take pictures or videos of it, post it here. i wish you much success

For those who are worried about the Bluetooth functionality of the new Ledger Nano X you should be aware that its only function is to allow your signed/unsigned transactions to flow wirelessly from your Ledger Nano X. Technically no hackers can hijack your private keys with the use of this awesome feature provided by Ledger. It's not like those contactless credit/debit cards where you need an RFID-blocking wallet to protect it because no one can steal something from you by the use of the wallet's Bluetooth capabilities.

[Why does the BTC address change in the ledger?]
The Ledger Wallet Bitcoin Chrome application manages multiple addresses for the same account (HD-Hierarchical Deterministic Protocol). Each time you receive bitcoins, the address will be replaced with a new address that always points to your own account. It is a security and privacy feature. Of course, each address stays active and you can continue to use the "old ones". Each transaction is displayed in the application.

[Why does not the ETH address change in the ledger?]
The Ledger Wallet Ethereum Chrome application manages only one address. You can manage multiple Ethereum addresses and accounts with MyEtherWallet.com.
It is not advisable to be using the Chrome apps at all any more. They are outdated and unsupported, and any bugs or issues which are found with them will not be fixed. In fact, the Ethereum app is no longer available at all, and if you try to use it, you will be advised to download Ledger Live.

If you don't want to use Ledger Live for whatever reason, you can quite easily use your Ledger to unlock a number of other wallets such as Electrum for bitcoin or MyEtherWallet for Ethereum.

Huh Huh Questions and answers  Huh Huh

[Does Ledger.fr know my private key?]
No. As you set up the device, you generate the private key on your ledger. It is then stored in the secure chip on the ledger. So no one has the opportunity to make a copy of your private key.

[Is the personal PIN code secure?]
Each time you connect the ledger to the USB port on your computer, you must enter the PIN code. If an incorrect code is entered three times, the device is reset and the content is deleted. A malware can not reset the wallet by sending three wrong PIN codes, as it is necessary to physically disconnect and reconnect the wallet before trying on a new PIN code.

[What happens when ledger no longer exists?]
When Ledger finishes all its activities, the Ledger Chrome application will most likely stop working because our API servers are stopped. However, this would only be an inconvenience as the bitcoins remain completely secure as long as you have your 24 word recovery phrase. With the 24 words you can always restore your balance in another compatible wallet.

So even if you do not have an explicit wallet on the Ledger device for a certain token, these can be managed if they are ERC-20. There are currently over 5K ERC-20 tokens in existence. List: https://etherscan.io/tokens
