Thanks for revamping such a helpful thread! And I think I can add something here, too... This is an interesting article about the online cricket betting evolution and some tips for fellow Indian gamblers: https://www.outlookindia.com/outlook-spotlight/the-online-cricket-betting-evolution-india-s-history-formats-and-tips-news-303086

Hello brother, I am from lucknow , Uttar pradesh. I joined this forum back in 2017 but never made use of this channel nor buying bitcoin at low prices.
I got into bad habit of gambling and always just gambled whatever amount i got and i got into some serious troubles in my family too 6 months ago because of it. Yes now i have stopped gambling, my family is helping me and 6 months i have not done any gambling.
Yes in this forum now i want to gain more and more knowledge about bitcoin, altcoins and trading and at the same time i also want to earn some through signature campaigns.
Also i write crypto currency related articles now whenever i get them.
I am trying to earn money slowly now on my own and stay away from gambling.
Good to know Shiva. Very good to know that you have kicked of the habit and are focussing on the more constructive areas of bitcoin and blockchain. There is always so much to learn and explore. If you keep learning, eventually the doors open for you to become part of something exciting.

If you write articles, then you are welcome to share them on the Indian sub as we are always looking for new people willing to engage the Indian sub. With the bull market, scammers always come onto the scene. We need more people to educate others about becoming financially responsible and Doing their own research. People tend to fall into greed by watching others and then a lot of people lose money and bitcoin gets a bad name. Everybody should try to fight against this at their own level as bitcoin is a beautiful technology with a great history.

The forum doesn't encourage sharing your location and other information but good to know. You can use the "Edit" button to remove such information. Good luck for your journey onwards. I'd look into your post history in a while and merit what I find useful. Good luck.

--snip-- I am kind of busy with my works especially in this covid so didn't have enough time to engage with the community but I will try to post more here when I have something to share with our community.
Yeah, COVID has been crazy. Everyone has limited time and it is totally a return versus investment calculation when it comes to allocating your time. The forum will always remain the best source of information on bitcoin and developments. So, IMO it is always good to work and establish a symbiotic relationship with the forum.

Hi my indian friends , well i am not a new member , but was not much active before , well we all have to live a real life as well so Cheesy but now i am back , its good to c how many indian friends are active here Smiley well when i was active before my account was hacked and hacker used it for some sig. champion so i got some -ve trust , but after that i got my account back , told them that my account was hacked plz removed ur -ve trust but they never listen , dam , anyways past is past now it is like a fresh start  Smiley
So, are you now the original owner? Because this account has been inactive for 4 years already. Once an account has been trust marked, it is not possible to get it over. Especially if its from Lauda, as he is retired from the forum now.

Also, I checked your posting history and it is quite clear that your account didn't get "hacked" but you just stopped using it. Both @Lauda and @Yahoo62278 were exemplary judges in such cases. Anyways, I have no idea if you've bought this account or just decided to login after 4 years. You were at the forum since 2014 so I am pretty sure you made bank. Hopefully, you have learned your lessons and leading a honest, happy online life now.

So what was your best experience back from 2014?

Well i am the original owner of this account from the beginning , and yes my account was hacked in previous , after getting those -ve trust i stopped using this forum for a quite long time , and any mod can make sure that i am the original owner anyways as i said past is past now i am back wanna have some fun and i have to learn a lot since i left for a long time.

I saw that H_H back with his raffles so let's see we are going to get the traffic again or not, personally I am kind of busy with my works especially in this covid so didn't have enough time to engage with the community but I will try to post more here when I have something to share with our community. And also thanks for Hhampuz for encouraging localboard users. Kiss

I am yet to be technically strong with bitcoin technology but with trading I have been successful now and now I am more trading on Wazirx which is giving best user experience than other exchanges in my opinion.

Thank you veterans for encouraging newbies!

Apart from that, this train has just been slowly chugging along. I keep bumping up my merit thread for newbies but they mostly get lost in the maze of global subs, hunting for bounties after a few posts of engagement. So, As you can tell, Noting's changed..Welcome back.. Hope life is treating you well..
There are lot of Indians are active in the bitcointalk but they forget to visit their sub board, probably due to lack of merit distribution just my opinion. And also most signature campaign doesn't count the local board post so they feel there is no incentive if they are active in their board.

Do you have any idea to bring the posters into this sub board?
Ideas. Well, last year a lot of us brainstormed quite a few and that is where the idea for a raffle came up which @Heisenberg_Uncertainty organizes. I think engagement begets engagement. We could start with users like yourself coming up and posting more.

When new people post more, it becomes an exciting opportunity for those of us who have been here for a while to have a chance at an engaging community. I agree about the fact that the signature campaigns not counting local posts can be a net negative. Yet, thanks to Roobet and @Hhampuz, I again have incentive to post in the local sub. I personally will be happy to engage with and merit young users for useful posts on the Indian sub.

When i started this thread, merit were limited but now that is not an issue. Hopefully, we can have more Indians sharing their legit experiences and knowledge out here.

To motivate the new joiners of the sub-forum I will restart the raffles again by this month. Apologize if someone had been eager to know the status of the raffles, I got struck with various works since the beginning of this year and finally getting back on track again. It seems like toxicity has settled down a bit in the Indian forum and there isn't much happening over altogether.

Did I miss anything interesting @amishmanish  Huh
Hello H_H..Good to have you back. I am sure you have been in touch with the general sense of crypto with "The B Word" meetup, incoming regulations in the US and all. In the forum itself, a lot of merit sources had their quota bumped up with a PM from @Theymos. Good to have occasional reminders that he is always around as "The silent guardian, The watchful protector".

I think quite a few people in the Indian forum are now merit sources with increased merit. Just that there aren't enough people to send them to.

If anybody sees posts and newbies worth meriting (with a posting history of course), you can recommend them on this thread for newbies.

That is awesome!

As you are one of the active members of this board and now a merit source, your efforts will really help genuine Indian members to get some merits and rank up.

Its surprising that this fellow replies to you even though his last post on the forum was in 2017. I would like to know the story behind it. What was this "online game" about? Have you tried any of the blockchain games?? Frankly though, even if its your Alt, there is no problem in letting us know. That guy had good posts but looks like he gave up after doing a few bounties. We have all done "bounties" at some point. Roll Eyes

Guys like you still in college (I guess) and bringing technical know-how and time to the forum and Indian sub are something we need more of. Looking forward to you growing in the forum and contributing.
That online game was a free to play strategy game (building an Empire). We were together in what are known as "Alliances" and we had WhatsApp groups. So I contacted him on WhatsApp and he let me know what was up. We still talk to this day and have played some multiplayer games together here and there Smiley

I am still surprised that all the people from my "Alliance" still maintain contact even though most of us haven't played the game in years.

Edit: Just found out, and you were talking about the transaction from "1BrXVqWCPghJr28nM6iQ6LBwxYexekcViK" that is linked with that account. That was from a friend (met him on an online game (GoodgameEmpire) and I had bought something which I wanted to be paid back for in BTC. He did tell me he had a BTCtalk account but didnt know which one, just asked him and he confirmed that that was his account!) Looking on the plus side, I learned to use Blocktrail today. Thanks!

Hey guys! I recently joined here, but I have known about bitcoin since around 2016-17. I had earned some bitcoin too, through some freelance work, and I am really interested in reading up and learning on Bitcoin, and the blockchain in general. I would like to understand trading as well. I am also learning Python programming and web development and interested in reading about that aspect of the Blockchain too.

Hey PhoenixZephyrus, glad you ended up here. But I don't think you are new to the forum Huh Are you an alt of TheBTCAlex  Huh

Python will be really helpful and it can help you in contributing to bitcoin as well. As you already know, Bitcoin is a currency by the people for the people and of the people and no one controls it and we (the users) are responsible for making this currency great. Currently we have far less developers who are contributing to Bitcoin Core from India and if you are willing to contribute something, join the weekly PR Review Club on Wednesday 10.30 PM - 11.30 PM in IRC and learn more about Bitcoin and its underlying technology. Here is the website for hosting and other information on joining : https://bitcoincore.reviews/

Meanwhile learn about Bitcoin python programming from Programming Bitcoin book by Jimmy Song. Here is an open-source version of the book hosted in github : https://github.com/jimmysong/programmingbitcoin

If you are willing to help the Bitcoin community by testing the latest 0.21rc1 version of software, you can check out the brief guide written by @jarolrod here : https://github.com/bitcoin-core/bitcoin-devwiki/wiki/0.21-Release-Candidate-Testing-Guide

Let us know if you face any challenges in your journey and remember we all are sailing in the same boat  Smiley

No, but my ISP uses a static IP address. Is that the reason why the board might consider the IP same? I dont want to be considered an alt and banned from this forum really?!

On another note, thanks for the resources and that IRC link. Also, do you have an idea of how much expertise in python is required for development? I know quite a bit, but idk if that would be meaningful to Bitcoin Core community as a whole. I'll take a look at the books that you mentioned. Thanks.

Welcome. A lot of us made our first buys on Zebpay during the 2017-18 bull run. You seem to have restricted yourself to bounties and all. If you are more comfortable with Hindi or any regional language then let us know. You can post directly in Hindi using "Google Hindi input".

Just search for it on Google. Uss par aap aise type karenge to hindi mein khud likh lega. fir usse yahaan paste kar sakte ho.

LOL  Grin , you said you hide your name but then you mention your name as well as your location in the post.
What your friend suggested you (not to reveal personal information including name) is actually true and I guess you should follow it.

I will introduce about myself here being a member from long time.

I was introduced Bitcoin by a close friend and invested some money and never understood about BTC. I kept all of my money with  friend as I don't have much interest in making a wallet too.
In the end I urged to get my money back from my friend and he had paid me back with some extra money. In the last suggested my to join koinex telegram chat room.

I was chatting with someone when I am free, one day a local person get in touched. He is also a member here, and suggested me to join this forum and read. He explained that it is an easiest way to make money from Bitcoin, but till today I haven't got extra money.
I hate most time and started to read once in a week or twice. In the end I came to know India banned and was following on Twitter. This forum is better than Twitter, but I see the news comes from Wazirx is the latest than here nothing.

I think it is really a nice initiative by the people of this community to allow people who are new not only in this forum but also to this crypto world.
I personally is a big computer fan.One of my friend knew this and he also had a fair amount of knowledge regarding crypto and this forum.Though he personally is not an active user.He also introduce me to this blockchain and crypto world and he knew immediately that i was amaze by it so he recommended me this forum.
My personal agenda on joining this forum is to enhance my knowledge and be updated. But i don't mind earning money with knowledge you gain.As i feel when you have opportunity to earn money through your knowledge, your willingness to learn also increases and with merit system i feel people with half knowledge will be forced to learn.
Good to see more new members in our community since crypto ban from RBI got removed. This forum offers earning opportunities as well but before earning we need to learn basic things at least to guide others in the right paths and get into crypto related discussions.

Learn then you can earn more.

Hello New people/ Slightly Old people

This is an old topic i started which i am now editing to reformulate as a welcome for new people as no such topic is on traction in our sub at present. I and other older members like Heisenberg, eality etc. keep looking for newbies to join the club of crypto users. The knowledge available at this forum is immense and you need to take the right path as soon as possible to avoid the pitfalls of sham bounties, Scam forks and stay true to the idea of decentralization and openness.

If you are a new Indian account, just drop in and say hello.
  • Say something about how you stumbled upon bitcoin and the forum.
  • What are your expectations and what are you here for.
  • There is no shame in accepting that you are here for the earning opportunities. We'd just like you to not become a shitposter...lol..
  • We would like to help you wisen up for the right opportunities.
  • In true cypherpunk fashion, we would like you to keep details of your real name, location etc private.
  • Always look at people's trust rating before dealing with them in real monetary terms here at the forum

Below you can find the content the topic was originally about. Suffice to say, it'll serve the merit function too and we have quite a few merit sources available now to make your time and effort in the India-sub worth your while.

There have been certain questions regarding merit sources and merit distribution in India forum. We presently don't have a moderator and people are also concerned about not receiving enough merits.

Various topics had been started at other subs and Meta during the early days of merit. Most good Indian posters get enough merits to attain Member rank. If you think you are a genuine newbie and finding it hard to level up, then quote yourself in the reply and provide a link to two of your best posts on the forum.
I'll try to help with merits when i can and I am sure other members will too.

Here are a few links copied from an old post of mine where you can look for further merits. I am not sure if those are still functioning.

Apart from this, The Indian forum isn't yet going anywhere because it has been left to its own by our early adopters who couldn't care less. Here are my thoughts on that. Well, Support or No-support from Early adopters, I believe that we can do better than this as a community. The best of the lot is still to give some attention to their own sub.

PS: My grave thoughts on the state of Indian sub have changed due to revival of effort from a lot of  good people, old and new..You can follow those here:

New pinned discussion on Indian sub by Heisenberg
Raffle for our Sub which I want to read "Free lottery to earn Satoshis"
Translated work from Nullius, Hindi comments encouraged

It's good to see Indians are talking about merit and helping to others, but a year back there is no way to get merit and never seen such threads here. I left the forum long back and just started to see this lovely activity. I am hoping to reach member level soon by spending most time here.
I see that you joined around the time when merit was introduced. You said in a post that you post from mobile which tells me that you really are interested in crypto. Like everyone else, you were looking for altcoin bounties. If they still work, do what you want but I'd like to see the useful posts and contributory discussions.
Your first post says you wanted to "invest" in bitcoin. So, How about an intro then? Of course not your actual information. I have mentioned a few talking points in the OP. We can start from there..and Welcome..

Yes I joined long time ago  and bought some BTC from a local friend during that time. I joined bounties and  this membership level is waste so I just used to read the forums  and leave it.

I will read the onpost again and follow it.

● Say something about how you stumbled upon bitcoin and the forum.

I have been involved in Online Marketplace Forums since 2018 to provide my services in various fields. Most of them accept crypto as transaction medium. That's when, I was introduced to crypto, mainly BTC.

I had no interest in crypto earlier but soon read a lot about Blockchain Technology and it really amaze me how it operates with transparency.

I stumbled across this forum 3 to 4 times before finally registering to it now.

● What are your expectations and what are you here for.

I have no expectation honestly. Just came here to learn mkre about crypto and connect with similar minded people.

Same here sharmaji

I m a newbie here and this technology too, i m interested in learning more about Blockchain & crypto currency to take its advantage in my field, but i m aware with good experience of online forums & community standards

There are 2 merit sources who are very much active in our local board. It's too bad that you still can't identify them.
Really? I am not aware of merit sources been awarded to our local baord.

I saw Heisenberg_Hunter applied to be a merit source but I thought he is awarding merits recently from personal sMerits. Lips sealed
Akram, Did you read the OP?

Below you can find the content the topic was originally about. Suffice to say, it'll serve the merit function too and we have quite a few merit sources available now to make your time and effort in the India-sub worth your while.
I think this merit-source excuse should no longer be the reason for people to not be active in their own sub. We are doing this just to be helpful and bump interest. My expectation is that it makes people want to be involved in the space and contribute, rather than waste time only looking for pennies in the altcoin bounties.

Not a newbie, but still consider this as an intro about myself.

I clearly don't remember how I stumbled upon this forum. Most probably it would be a Google search. But back then I was focussed mainly on doing social media bounties which I later understood to be a mere waste of time to gain few useless tokens. Lately, I understood that I shouldn't be focussing on earning useless tokens rather than improving my understanding of cryptocurrencies in general. I do like the opportunity available in the forum for earning Bitcoin through signature bounties. Nowadays, browsing through the forum and reading stuff amongst my daily work schedule has become more of a habit. Happy to be part of the friendly community.

AFAIK, there is no official merit source who is active on India local board

Seriously speaking, I had no intentions to join the signature campaigns to make a part-time income as I was not even aware about it before I could join this forum. (But, I have intentions to earn money by offering my services though Grin )

Good to see you Rohan. checked both of your threads and you are offering a service that has a lot of competition. Yet, from what i have seen other managers do on forum, perseverance is the name of the game. Someone was asking for a free vouch on your whitepaper design page. Not sure why they think its free though.

This forum has taught me a lot of new things which includes trading. I am finding much interest in trading only because of the "trading discussion" section which helps me a lot in my analysis.

That is awesome if you are taking trading seriously. The good thing is that it can be applied as a skill outside too. I have never gotten into the nitty-gritty of candles and what not but it is always good to have members like you who are trying to be productive here at the forum. Hope to see you around often.

Indian board have very few active members compared to other local boards and we doesn't have a merit source yet and no moderator since Benson stepped down from moderating so the available members have to support each others and make this board more active and less spam.

Hello akram. We do have a few merit sources now waiting to give merit to newbies who would like to engage. Granted its not much, but it is non-zero for sure.

It is really nice to see you guys supporting Indian members to rank up. I won't be posting this to gain any merits but I would like to share my experience about how I personally joined this forum. I was working as a freelancer first before I joined with bitcointalk. I am always eager to work for bitcoins/or any other coin and hence it drew me on this forum. I have tried to launch some services here but got none response yet which is because I lack with my portfolio I guess.
I'll work for some projects for free to add some projects in my portfolio and perhaps it will help me get few jobs here.

There is a pinned thread by dishwara but the people who came there did not find much response.
Most of the posts in dishwara's welcome topic is by scammers and newbies hunting for money, sharing off-topic posts with referral code spams, Thank You posts and something similar to that. Neither of these posts served the purpose of topic nor were helpful/informative. Well, newbies who are joining here should understand that a forum is different from a chat room. Perhaps forum users shouldn't post a single word like "Thank You", "Good Community", "Happy to part of this" but rather they should indulge in a discussion by sharing their thoughts.

Similar to bitcoin being advertised as a hyip scheme to our Indians, this forum was advertised and used as a earning ground for bounty shitposters to post their shit. Most of the Indian bounty hunters never really understand the meaning behind the creation of a discussion forum and a chatroom. This is the basis for themselves becoming a shitposter with very less knowledge gained from the forum and bitcoin as a whole.

I like your idea of reconstructing the "Welcome to Indians" topic, but can you start a new topic and write a short, catchy and helpful intro (similar to the one you have mentioned above), redirect them to some of the helpful Beginner topics (like taxes topic by webtricks, Bitcoin Status in India topic by teosanru and bitcoin resources topic by myself) along with the Raffle/lottery stuffs and other interesting discussions in the global forum?

If you reconstruct the whole thread, by creating a new topic along with listing some useful beginners links most of us can report them constantly and get it pinned as we did the earlier topics.

See this :

Welcome to Indians – The topic similar to 'Easy way to understand Bitcoin' wasn’t really helpful and has been used as a frog pond to spam with redundant posts like “Thank You”, “Pleased to be here” etc. Instead, I have thought of creating a topic (under construction) which doesn’t ruin the essence of “Welcome to Indians” topic but would be more of a decent explanatory. I would like to hear community opinions on what can we include on this topic as it could become one of the most important topics if our country got to know about bitcointalk on a larger scale.

Funny how that never worked out and then I was behind the merit gate. I remember legendster helping me a lot back then. Then there was that other guy that talked funny. Subal damudar, he's a long time member too but I never see him online..

+1 merit for you just for being honest. I liked the way you confessed how the sole intention of yours (and most people who visit and join the forum) is to get involved in a signature campaign and how beautifully you dealt with your mentality, changed it and came out being a better person than before. Now I believe that Merit is good as it teaches users the cost of hard work and knowledge here and glad to see someone actually changed due to it.

You can understand but it may looks shit for you or don't have any idea about we were talking even if you understand because it is in English.

Thanks for clarifying that I may also see 'shit' here which I never said in my words. If I see anything of my interest  including your Jio annual meet (I am a fan of Mukesh Ambani for what he has given you guys) or the blockchain summits in India, I go first and read more about it and if I see that there's no 'shit' posted and the words are properly set up by a user, I can merit those posts. If this sector would not be of any interest to me I'd never visit it. And don't mind, but you can't judge someone's reach just by where they live as we're all globally united so we all keep news about each other. I have friends in India who can make me understand better if I don't get whatever you are linking it to. And come on, you can't just copy and paste an article's word to word paragraph and post it here and expect us to merit it, it's someone else's work.

People from other countires may not know what post to be considered as qualitative.SO definitely someone from India need to be here as merit source.

And also no mod here made this place drown under spams threads.

As I see, most of the posts here are in English instead of the local language so I can try to be helpful here if I find any post that qualifies and meets my merit standards.
Answer me this, if members from any country cannot differentiate and categorize between quality posts and bad posts, do they deserve to be merited? Those who don't have the knowledge of what are quality posts should not expect it from me at least.

This is my own thread where I await some good posts to merit them myself. I will say that merit sources like DarkStar_ are very much active in local boards and never hesitates to merit users if they have posted something that deserves one, so don't you think that they are not active. I went through this India local section and found that there are very less posts that seem to get merited as most of other posts are marketplace based, like trades and reputation threads.

Coinsecure was not a scam project, Amitabha, one of the guys hired from this forum stole some altcoins and thought he could get away with it. It's a whole history lesson there.
I have talked with Benson outside of this forum a few years back and he was a really mature fellow and share the same mother tongue and then i saw him appearing in the media and after that i never had any conversation with him but i still did not like the way in which they carried their business by having one person have the entire private key to the funds, they could have made a multi signature wallet which is the best practice and he is well aware of the risks if you entrust everything in one person.

There have been certain questions regarding merit sources and merit distribution in India forum. We presently don't have a moderator and people are also concerned about not receiving enough merits.
If there is a merit source here in this section we will see good posters and a moderator to take care of the reports is what we need to have a clean forum. The major reason majority are not visiting this section is because there is a lack of good topics here for discussion and if there is a combined effort with the help of admin we will have an active community here.

Yet, It'd be great if you can be more active and just create content. Maybe something India-centric. The forum has a lot of potential and it is up to each one of us to make the best use of it. If for nothing else, then for interactions that can pave way for real engagements in the future.

And when the Amitabha / Coinsecure scandal happened, it essentially took out Benson from this community - literally the only person that gave a flying fuck about this subboard's health.
I don't know about Benson other than he was a moderator for India.Did he was a part of scam project? Or link me what issue you are talking about.

We can bring the right traffic again if there is a moderator here.

He was not only the mod but a leader.

Coinsecure was not a scam project, Amitabha, one of the guys hired from this forum stole some altcoins and thought he could get away with it. It's a whole history lesson there.

I had interacted with Amitabha way back in the beginning, but my repeated attempts of getting back in touch have not been successful since. So I don't have his side of the story. He's a phd guy so I didn't think he's the type to steal.

Benson was removed from mod status because Theymos thought there was a conflict of interest though rightly he, and no one else here actually accused him of anything. We all saw how hard he worked to create Coinsecure from scratch.

We can bring the right traffic again if there is a moderator here.

Once my other thread is completed, you will see that the Indian media has never promoted Bitcoins and cryptos in a positive light.

It has always been linked to chitfunds, scams, ghotala and then there are people like Kabit9 that makes this a toxic cesspool to be a part of.

6 years given to this community from my life and what do I get in return?

A threat that my sick mother's name and number would be distributed to escort sites.

A comparison with my dead dog about who's the bigger bitch?

Judging me on how I look.

All for what? because I wouldn't allow his shitpost on my self mod under construction thread?

And you think people will come here for what?

Even my dead dog was a better 'human being' than this asshole and frankly, this forum is full of it now.

People like you and me can only sit by and idly watch. Or at least we choose to do so.

It's a lost cause here. Unless there's significant interest and traffic from India for Bitcoins, this subsection will never be relevant again.

Just had a quick look, most of those quoted threads are no longer functioning. They aren't even up to date with merit system (since September 2018, jr membership requires 1 merit, not 0).
You are right that the merit giveaway threads have mostly gone cold. I quoted it from an old post of mine. Seems like merit distribution is no longer much of an issue, especially for good Indian posters.
Yet, if we ever have an influx of deserving people who aren't getting them, this post can serve as a source of merit for them.

Thanks to those of you chipping in for giving out merits. Lets wait.

Better to add criteria in OP to apply for merits!

1. Useful posts related to bitcoin and blockchain.
2. Meaningful discussion regarding prospects/ intiatives of blockchain in India.
3. It'd be preferable not to have a post history comprising solely of Alt-bounties etc.
4. Posts that are more than 1 to 3-sentence conversation fillers.
5. कोई हिंदी या हमारी किसी दूसरी भाषा वाले पोस्ट जो दूर कहीं छिप गए हों।
