I tried applying some special effects but due to my lack of expertise in illustrator, I was unable to.

What effect were you trying to apply? I know the competition is closed, but maybe I can help you find your way.

I actually spent two hours on this - the longest I've spent designing anything on Bitcointalk! But for a potential 2BTC, it's worth it.  Smiley

My 0.5 BTC entry   Cool

Very nice designs.  I may suggest you make round versions of these as well just in case.  Not sure how possible it is to mint an odd shaped coin.

Hello, I see a lot of people posted their design, I did not have to much time to work, that's why I post this late.
The coin is called Raptor, it might need some small adjustments but here's a preview.
I'll a second design today or tomorrow.

That is a cool design MrBAU. I think the composition needs a little tweak, but I really like it!

This is my 0.1 BTC design.

I integrated a microchip into the design as a refference to Bitcoin being a digital currency, which needs computing power to exist.
For the typography I used a futuristic, and technical font.

Ok guys, this is my entry for the 0.5 Bitcoin.

I wanted it to be a powerfull and energetic design, to capture the spirit and infinite possibilities of Bitcoin, uniting people all over the world. For the typography I used a futuristic, and technical font.

Should I even bother?

Last I remember this was a fight between who knew the most.

That being said Coinographic took care of the matter but,
should one feel confident enought to spend time working on this?

or should I not bother at all?

You should definitely bother, voting was a bit 'unfair' last time round but I believe that was due to the large bounty (20BTC - if you look at the price of the coin for sale)

The more designs the better:)

I thought the last comp was a mess but it was the fault of the entrants and not the competition organiser. At the end of the day it was sorted out professionally by OP.
Ive never really used illustrator before but have spent some time coming up with my own entry. It may not be great but I look at it as having gained experience using illustrator which is a really neat tool Smiley
Will submit mine shortly.
Still need to work out how to make it look shiny as it now looks a bit plain and not very silver like.

Even though the last contest was a bit of a mess, I think many things were learned on what is and isn't allowed.  Additionally the grand prize was worth way more so I doubt there will be as much bickering.

I personally would like to see another submission by you as the last ones you did were great.

I like this one. Maybe you should only simplify those circuits in the background to look more clear? I don't know how that would look like when produced.
Thanks. Yea I wish I was better at illustrator but I have years more experience with Photoshop which sometimes produces images that aren't quite as sharp.  I'll try and refine it before the contest deadline.  Thanks for the feedback.

Here's my submissions:

The gold coin has a silver plated edge to accent the binary code and "One Half Bitcoin" letters.  In the middle is an offset Bitcoin BTC with a rising sun burst inspired by the rising sun flag of the Japanese with a circuit board background.  The rising sun symbolizes tradition and good fortune so I thought it would work well with traditional circuitry and of course for good fortune.  "Ex Unitate Vires" is engraved and translates to "Unity is Strength".  While it's different than "Vires In Numeris", it delivers a more powerful and community inspired message.  The .50 BTC and 2014 Coinographic are also engraved along one of the sunburst rays.
https://i.imgur.com/3TT2HKi.png

The silver coin is a more simple design and frankly I didn't get to spend as much time on it as I'd have liked.  It mostly speaks for itself.  I envisioned a brushed metal texture around the BTC with circuitry surrounding it.  The "One Tenth Bitcoin" and "Coinographic are each engraved on a raised banner.  The .10BTC is engraved directly into the coin.
https://i.imgur.com/l5efQqM.png

Thanks for taking the time to check out the submission and good luck to all participants!

Here is my submission for the Silver 0.10 coin.

Transparency: The B was designed by a designer I know. The image is also available on Shutterstock however I can provide her email address to confirm that this image has not just been taken from ShutterStock and that she is happy for her work to be included within my design.

If this is against any rule - please let me know and I will submit a different design.

^^ Cool design, but providing an email address doesn't exactly prove she is the one who created it.  Just sayin'
As long as he has permission from the original designer, I don't think there's any issues with that.

@saigoned : it might be wise to have her send you the original vector image anyways just in case you do win and coinographic does need it to render the coin.

Thanks, I already got it - then I added it to the coin design.

Nope but her name, portfolio, website, contact details can be obtained from ShutterStock and the vector on Shutterstock links to these details which in turn match up with her email address or she can be contacted directly via her website..

Not to wait any longer...here are my two entries for both coins. This time I'm posting them early enough so I hope noone will have any silly accusations...

Inspiration - bees and beehives. Bitcoin reminds me of them. Thousands of miners working together to achieve their goal, keep the blockchain running, protect security of transactions..protect the queen... I hope you understand where this is going Smiley Binary code says "0.1 BTC" and "0.5 BTC" - depending on the coin, and on silver version there is a latin proverb: "No bees, no honey, no work, no money". Hope you bees will like it Smiley

Hello,
This is a n00b attempt lol, I'm not very good at designing all those polished things and stuff like the above people. This is just a photo for use of the idea. I read that you have a designer who polishes the ideas, so maybe you can make the coin all polishy and nice and stuff.

As you can see, I put a crescent moon to show 2 things,

a. Bitcoin to the moon!
b. .10 is close to a crescent. Close enough.

Thanks,
Superhitech

I think the designers are holding their design, i am sure that lots of design will be submitted 1 week before the contest ends.
That'd probably right, at least I'm my case anyways.  And both prizes are still pretty valuable imo so I'm sure we'll see a flurry of entries during the last few days like we did with the last contest.

Thanks Sarahiko - I am actually looking into signing up at a local training centre to do an 8 week part time course in PS and AI. On top of working full time, 2 kids, studying for a degree I need a few more hours in my day, I already only sleep 4hrs a day so this is asking for trouble Cheesy

Yeah Photoshop is a lot more 'fun' than Illustrator, find it much easier to put ideas together and be creative.

Might find some of these tutorials interesting: http://graphicdesignjunction.com/2014/07/best-photoshop-tutorials-2014/

Ok guys be gentle...I have probably used Illustrator for less than 20hrs in my life and this is my first ever attempt at something like this:)

21 Bitcoins round the edge obviously represent the 21 million BTC's. I wasn't sure to put .999 on here as it gold plated brass.

Since 2008 represents when the white paper was published online.

Anyway, after the last winner I am sure we will see some much better designs, but wanted to put something out there!

Should all of the coins be round?

Should we keep the designs only gold / silver or are we allowed to add color?

Should entrants refrain from pointing others to vote in this contest? I understand this can be a gray area, but the more clarification we can get on this the better.

Are we allowed to use some or all of a design that we submitted for the previous contest? I'm not planning to but in case someone else would like to it will be best to clarify this now.

The coins do not have to be round

Designs Can be a mix of colour, fot example you might want some gold played highlights on your silver coin, please Keep to just silver or gold though

Pointing others to vote in the contest is fine so long as voters are not enticed

Yes you can modify and submitted designs from the previous contest

This will help when it comes to coming up with a suitable design for each coin.

0.50 BTC Coin - 0.60 BTC + Shipping

Thank you for taking the time to read the details of our NEW competition!

ABOUT US

We are Coinographic.com. Our company has been formed for the sole purpose of creating high quality, exquisite, Physical coins of eminence.

We hosted many similar competitions over on Litecointalk / Reddit.  You can find more details about these competitions from the News Page on our website.

We recently hosted a competition here on Bitcointalk for a solid gold physical Bitcoin design - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/6-bitcoins-2-ounces-of-fine-gold-in-bounty-submission-deadline-31st-august-693176.  When this coin is produced we believe it will be the most exclusive and exquisite physical Bitcoin ever minted.

THE COMPETITION

It’s now time for us to create some physical bitcoins for the budget enthusiast…

This competition will offer 2 grand prizes and 8 runners up prizes in our search for 2 new physical Bitcoin designs.  As with our other coins, it’s extremely important to us that the design of our coins come right from within the heart of the communities that drive them.

We are looking for talented designers to create 2 new coin designs;
Bitcoin Tenth (0.10 BTC) – This coin will be a .999 silver plated brass coin
Bitcoin Half (0.50 BTC) – This coin will be a .999 gold plated brass coin

Both of these coins will carry the exact same dimensions;
Diameter: 38mm
Thickness: 3mm

Please note that a space should be left of the rear of the design for a hologram that is 34mm in diameter – leaving you 4mm around the reverse diameter for some flourishing.

We DO NOT require a hologram design nor do we require a box design for this competition; please design the coin front only.

THE DEADLINE FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS IS THE 31ST OCTOBER 2014, 22:00 FORUM TIME

HOW IT WILL WORK

After the submission period ends, all designs will be put to the community for voting in a separate thread. The bounty will be split as follows;

Silver Plated Brass Coin:
1st Place: Fully funded coin (0.10 BTC .999 silver plated brass), + 2 Bitcoins.
2nd-5th Place: Will each receive 0.25 BTC.

Gold Plated Brass Coin:
1st Place: Fully funded coin (0.50 BTC .999 gold plated brass), + 2 Bitcoins.
2nd-5th Place: Will each receive 0.25 BTC.

PROMOTION

As with all our competitions, we will be focusing our efforts in promoting this forum post over the coming weeks. This will be done through press releases and social media. Our aim is to help further raise awareness of digital currencies and attract talent to the Bitcointalk community. If you're already a user of Bitcointalk and know of some fantastic graphic designers, we encourage that you inform them of this thread.

GOOD LUCK!

We wish you all the best of luck with your submissions. With every competition, we look forward to the unique, exciting designs and innovative ideas that you, the community, bring. We are especially excited to see how we can apply these qualities to our new coins.

If you have any questions regarding this competition, please don't hesitate to contact us via our website or alternatively post your question directly in this thread. Thank you!
