I'd be more inclined to think that they were either lost or stolen by someone else. They just ran a shoddy business and were being throttled by governmental restrictions, not to mentioned they already had money seized.

hmm, that might be true but that  makes our 190 IQ statement totally off the charts Cheesy

i said more than 5 milions

for example let's take poloniex.com

they have more than 13000 users registered

24 h volumes is 567 BTC

that means they made around 1.2 BTC/24h

mtgox had more than 1000000 customers

we assume mtgox had the same trading volumes for every 13.000 customers they had and the same fees like poloniex.com

that means mtgox made 92BTC/24h

mtgox was bought by mark in March 2011 and we will pretend he bought it on 31st March

from 31st March 2011 till 24 February 2014 are almost 3 years so we will pretend that they didn't operated in December 2013 so that we have mtgox was working for around 33 moths

92*33=3036BTC in fees

we exchange that 3036 btc at the highest price from December

3036*1200=3643200$

and we all not mtgox volume per day was around 50000BTC but the numbers would have been to high for me to calculate!

I think you are wrong in your computation.

92btc in 24 hours right? 92 must be multiplied  to 30, To get the total number commission on that month.

92 btc * 30 days = 2760 btc per month.

2760 btc * 33 months = 91, 080 btc in 33 months.

91,080 btc * 1200 = $109,296,000

Damn, that's a lot of money. Shocked

If you are talking about his net worth I'm sure he had well over $5 million just from running MtGox.

Now he's got a 700,000 or more btc bonus too. That's if he is actually committing a crime

How do you know these figures? And I'm not sure if he has committed any crimes - well, unless being guilty of running a shoddy business is a crime  Cheesy.

About his net worth? I don't but given that MtGox is one of the most well-known bitcoin exchanges in the world it definitely generated millions through fees, high traffic and ad revenue. I also heard that he didn't have any employees, just contractors

As far as him pocketing people's BTC, who knows. I don't like to point fingers before I know something for sure. I kinda feel bad for him, he probably has a bounty on his head...it's likely a lot of the shady early adopters from the Silk Road days had their BTCs in Gox.

It was one of the most well-known, but people kinda stopped sending money to it a while ago as they couldn't get anything in or out. He's also probably lost a lot of the money in one way or another. I am starting to feel a bit sorry for him. I just think he's a bit clueless. He might be a great programmer but he's not much of a businessman.

why do you think so?

I think it's more likely that he knew exacly what he was doing and stole hundreds of thousands of bitcoins for himself..

Why do you think so? He doesn't strike me as a master criminal / scammer. I doubt he even needed any Bitcoins the amount he was making and had made in commissions.

that is true, but how could everything collapse so fast without any outside influence?

I'd be more inclined to think that they were either lost or stolen by someone else. They just ran a shoddy business and were being throttled by governmental restrictions, not to mentioned they already had money seized.

well a wild guess is that over a 700 000 bitcoins have been stolen on MtGox so it would be a hell lot of more..

altough I find this number too large to be realistic..
