Another week, another successful Proof of Uptime payout! 57 people running BTH nodes have been rewarded.

If you're not earning from running a node, what are you waiting for?

Week 3's payouts for Proof of Uptime have been issued! 41 people running Bithereum full nodes have been rewarded for doing so. Once the Node Management Tool is ready people will be able to run a pruned node with as little as 8GB of storage and earn by referring others to run full nodes as well.

The insight node has completed rebuilding the chainstate and the explorer is back up: https://insight.bithereum.network/. We also have a backup so in the event we need to update our insight node again, the explorer won't go down.

Our payouts for full node rewards for Week 3 will now be based on balances since we'll be able to pull that info from the explorer.

We're pushing to get the node management tool out as soon as possible to make running a node and issuing rewards far easier.

Week 2 payouts for PoU have been distributed! In a few days, the Node Management Tool, formerly referred to as the full node launcher, will be completed and this will be needed for issuing PoU payouts as this will automate the payouts and checking uptime.

A preview of the node management tool can be found here: https://twitter.com/BithereumBTH/status/1104138860659908608.

We're very excited to get this out because it will make PoU super easy to be a part of with managing your nodes and adding new nodes, as well as being able to refer others to get you and someone else some additional BTH.

The issuance for week 1 of Bithereum's Proof-of-Uptime full node rewards went out today!

Bithereum is bringing back the importance of full nodes through incentivization where ANYONE who runs a full node can earn rewards. Not just those who lock up a large portion of a coin like masternodes; you can earn full node rewards even if you have zero BTH.

We are working to get the Bithereum Node Launcher up by the beginning of next week. The node launcher will make it easy for people who may not understand the technical ins-and-outs of setting up a full node.

If you would like to run a full node you will have two options: running an archive node, or running a pruned node.

An archive node is a full node that contains every single block within the BTH blockchain, and is suitable for someone who has the additional disk space for it (212 GB). A pruned node on the other hand, stores a specified amount of blocks at any given time and is suitable for someone who has less available disk space (between 16-32 GB).

In the coming days we'll be providing tutorials on how to use the Bithereum Node Launcher and how to set up an archive node and a prune node.

Feel free to ask us any questions!

You had me at "hard-spoon".

Yes, the wonderful "hard-spoon" coined by the Cosmos team: https://blog.cosmos.network/introducing-the-hard-spoon-4a9288d3f0df

We used the concept of this to reward all ETH holders with BTH as well, since we're basing our PoS model from the Casper protocol: https://medium.com/bithereum-network/bithereums-hard-spoon-snapshot-is-complete-c1814024ea9a

Introducing Bithereum's "Proof-of-Uptime" (PoU)

Bithereum

Bithereum (BTH) is a hard-fork of Bitcoin in combination with the technological roadmap of Ethereum to create a more technologically advanced version of Bitcoin, structured around a PoS-influenced node incentive model called PoU, or Proof-of-Uptime. A hard-spoon snapshot was taken of the Ethereum blockchain on December 12th to reward ETH holders with BTH (https://medium.com/bithereum-network/bithereums-hard-spoon-snapshot-is-complete-c1814024ea9a). The network forked off of Bitcoin at block 555,555 and has been live as of January 5th. Bithereum is PoW and uses an Equihash 144,5 mining algorithm.

Proof-of-Uptime (PoU)

The Bithereum Network has officially introduced a new concept called “Proof-of-Uptime”, or PoU. In every other PoW system, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, there is a misalignment of incentives when it comes to full nodes. Though running a full node is absolutely crucial to the success of the network in the first place, there is no model in place to incentivize this, relying on people to be ideologically attached to a project rather than financially incentivized in the way that every miner is.

In PoU, the amount each full node will be awarded with will be based on their node’s uptime; the higher amount of uptime a node has, the higher their reward payout will be, however even a minuscule amount of uptime will generate at least some reward.

Running a node in Proof-of-Uptime is also different than running a "masternode", as it doesn't require you to hold any BTH in order to get rewarded. You can run a full node holding ZERO BTH. However, holding some BTH will give you greater rewards than none. The amount of BTH you are holding in terms of BTH’s USD price will determine how much you can earn each week. Payouts will be issued once a week on the Friday of every week, unless noted differently by us.

Check out the blog for more details including the payout structure: https://medium.com/bithereum-network/bithereums-proof-of-uptime-v2-0-69da7c1ca17

If you need help with running a full node, check out https://bthfaq.com/ for a tutorial for doing so.

The official release for Bithereum can be found here: https://github.com/BTHPOS/BTH/releases.

Referrals

*Note: The Referral system will be ready soon and we will notify everyone and update this blog when it’s live. Directions for referring will also be posted.

Proof-of-Uptime will have a built-in system for referrals. Any individuals who have reached 100% sync status on their full nodes can refer other individuals to run a node. Upon 100% completion of syncing, both parties will recieve 1 BTH. There are a total of 10,000 BTH allocated for referrals, and rewards will continue to be distributed until this allocation is finished. Upon running the Bithereum Full Node Launcher, you will be given a unique key which will function as your referral ID. This key will be used by others who you refer to run a node. More details will be added here soon as to how to do the process correctly.
