Ok, this is not a bad idea. I can understand not wanting my website on your coin. How about this... what if there was no unique code and the url was very small on the back, OR possibly laser-etched on the coin edge. so you wouldn't even see the url if you were looking directly at the front or back of the coin?

Also, would you want the design of the obverse & reverse on the coin to be the same?

Even if the website was in invisible ink, it would still be there.  That gives the coin less of a "currency" feel and more of a website promotion feel.  Right now you're the only person (I know of) offering cool cheap bitcoin collectors coins.  Take advantage.  Even if they're brass now, you are in a position to corner the market, which after some profiting could lead to silver coins, then gold...

I say you should design a new back and sell them for double the price of the ones on your website.  Then include one of your website coins for free with every purchase of 2 or more.  You'll make more money, your website coins will get to more people, and you could just end up being the exclusive physicial bitcoin supplier once you work out all the kinks in your operation and gather more customers...

I'd definitely buy one made of pure silver without the website listed.  Just sell the brass (gold plated) ones to gather the funding needed to get a batch of silver ones made (then discontinue the brass ones and only use that for your website coins, which you will then give away free with the silver ones).  I'm excited for you.  This is a great opportunity.  I'm just an ideas guy, but would love to partner on this with you somehow if you were interested in building a team for this project.

Or just go ahead and toss me a free coin when you get rich.   Wink

i totally agree with this premise.  i would also like to be able to purchase ones made of gold.

i was one of the earlier buyers of one of these and i love it.  but i just cancelled an order for 4 b/c i realize i really don't like the URL promotion.

make these in silver and gold w/o promoting and you'll make alot more in profit.

I think you should offer both versions. I honestly don't know if I want the code or not.

Also you should maybe make a version with a whole at the top so you could make it a chain or something. I mean I wouldn't just carry around a coin to spread the word Tongue

It wouldn't hurt If it was missing the website & number. I kind of want a more "classic" style btc coin with nothing proprietary on it.

I think i'd like the coin better if it didn't have the website stamped onto it.

yeah I feel the same.

It actually serves a cool purpose, but I agree.  I'd buy one if it weren't for that.  Perhaps the coin creator should make a 2nd type of coin without the website branding on it and sell it for more?  That way he could lower the price on his existing coins (they'll be subsidized by the higher priced ones) or give them away for free to promote his site (1 per order of the new coins?).  A non-numbered coin would also be cheaper to have made, so there would be a much higher profit margin, especially considering he could charge a large premium.  Giving 1 of his website branded coins for free with the order of new coins would also get people like myself (and probably the 2 people I quoted) to give his website a try with their free coin.  I'd imagine that would be a great help to getting this project off the ground.

RSantana,

i JUST put my order thru for 4 coins thru Paypal.  could you please leave off your website URL on my order?  everything else can remain the same.

I'm sorry, we don't do custom coins on demand. I'd like to get to that point :-)

If you don't want the coins please request a refund via our contact form at http://coinedbits.com/about.php

I would have to guess that it's not quite that easy to just leave them off. Unless he is using an extreme lean process I'm sure they are created in bulk.

I wonder how much people would actually
buy these for if there were 100% pure gold.

It would be MORE then collectible.

i asked him if he would melt down one of my Krugerands into a Bitcoin and he said no.

I think those pics make the coins look they have more of a matte finish rather than how polished they are.

Reflections are sort of a tricky thing to photograph, you can either have a reflection, or you can have detail. It's nearly imposable to have both.

I'd just like to throw this out there, what does everything think about the coin picture currently used on the site? Do they accurately represent the coins?
I did the photography for them, so I'm wondering what everyone thinks.

Its interesting how people feel the need to make a picture of bitcoins, make medallions, or some other tangible representation of a bitcoin.  I don't think we need any picture or any representation of a what a bitcoin is.  It is digital, 0's and 1's.  What matters is that it each is unique, and that there is a way to trade them, whether on an exchange or person to person.

Its hard to leave the old way behind.  Grin

Let's talk governance, lipstick, and pigs.
I like the current version, I just got mine in yesterday, but I would also like to buy 1/2oz or 1oz silver coins.  $7 over spot sounds good.  As for design, I would prefer the old fashioned fiat look.
I like the simple look of the coin because it is similar to the signage used by commerce, but I like your idea for something like a bitbill to look more old fashioned.

I have bought quite a few of these coins and love em.  The last order only took 2 business days to arrive Smiley
