Can someone please help me with bitcoin? i have not registered yet and its confusing me what to go for like desktop, web, full etc. I am so confused with this. Just want an account that i can use to receive payments from people. Further i would like to know how safe and anonymous it is.

Thanks

I think online bitcoin wallet blockchain.info is good for newbie. Easy for registration and really user friendly and until now i don't have any issue when using blockchain.

So which one has the most votes? Secure one and something i can settle on for once and for all? Blockchain? is it desktop version?
So you mean its risky in the sense that sometimes they eat up all your money too? Thats scary. How to do business on these websites then?
Xapo online wallet has no transaction fees, has special faucets, and has a pretty good design, that's why it interests most peoples, but it is not very secure, as I said above.
I advice you Multibit is one of the best downloadable wallets I know, but it have transactions fees.
If you want to download Bitcoin core, do it, but it synchronize each connection, and it can take a long time.

Thank you so much guys. You have been of so much help to me. So i should make a wallet first? xapo or blockchain? which one? Are these separate physical websites related to bitcoin too? and why are they not safe enough as some of you said its not safe. I surely wanna be steady with something once i make it. Keep guiding and i have high hopes just because of you guys around.

Thanks once again
Online wallets as Xapo are not secure because they do not give to their users private keys of their wallet, so you will not get your wallet if you lose it, or they can take your Bitcoins.
As online wallet that give private keys to their users, there are Blockchain.
But, downloadable wallets are more secure.

Maybe these kind of step by step guides come in handy? (didn't check quality):

Just take it slow with bitcoins and learn over time. No point to look at everything at once.

If you want to start small in bitcoins I would recommend you to get an online wallet like xapo or Blockchain.info. It is not as secure as an desktop wallet but pretty easy to set up.

This forum is also pretty good in getting a first understanding of bitcoins.

Don't panic or be confused. Once you start using bitcoins, it will be very easy for you, that you will stop other methods to receive payments. Just create a wallet in blockchain. Send the address to the guy who is going to send you the bitcoins. As easy as that.

I recommend Electrum for newbies. As far as anonymous, it is not really anonymous unless you mix the coins before purchasing something so the trace of your address is broken, then they can't know who bought something.
You can use bitcoinfog or helix or bitmixer over Tor for best results (be sure to use the correct onion url)
But even if you don't mix coins, it's generally anonymous enough, no one cares about your transactions unless you are moving big money.

using an online service is not as secure or anonymous. many people only use the online services purely for "daily spend" small amounts, when you dont want to carry a computer around with you just to buy little things and not recommended to put your entire long term holdings on these third party(web) services

if you are looking to collect and hold bitcoin long term or will hold more then you are prepared to lose. then it is best that you use a desktop wallet.
something like electrum, multibit are the two main ones to use for casual non-technical users.
but the most important thing is to keep the privatekey/seed safe. back it up on paper and do not lose it.

if however you want to become fully involved with helping to be part of the network and want to know the technical side of it then running a full node would be the one. but this is usually only for the more advanced users

this link above should help guide you.
