Quite. I also expect it doesn't keep the dedicated trolls out. Perhaps it helps a bit.
I already like these rules. it forces me to browse around for a few hours instead of diving ride in to the sharks. I've already learned a few new things from some threads I probably would have bypassed otherwise.
Now that I'm forced to lurk and read threads, I should have a good understanding of everything within a few hours.

Like the rules, here , alot of sites get spamed because of not having rules way to go Bitcoin for keeping things clean

Ok, so I'm sorta just posting this to reach my post limit so I can go post in the thread I really want to participate in, is that bad?
i guess its a good thing keeps the spammers out

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).
If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.
Also:
- Newbies cannot upload their own avatars.
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.
Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)

ahh i see 5 posts as well, there goes my lurker approach.
Also been reading about this for a while. Now feel left it too long and too hard to get btc
never used the forums before but I can appreciate this due to previous experiences. really not too much to ask I dont think and an easily met requirement.
