I wonder if people still hold the mentality that "miners are just a small flash in the pan" when it comes to GPU sales.

AMD actually started listing mining as a feature on their own product pages back when it was relevantish.
Yup, back when the 7xxx cards came out. And they didn't specify "bitcoin", they only stated that they are good for mining, wich is a wise move, because they are good at bitcoin mining (ye well before asics) but they are also good at litecoin (scrypt algorithm) mining Cheesy

Newegg's customer service is awful these days.  It looks like their ability to do some basic research on what their customers are using their purchases for is just as bad.

This is like selling a 49er gold panning equipment but not accepting his gold for payment.

DOn't you think most sales on ebay are for bitcoin mining at this point?  how do you know they are mostly sales for graphics?  especially the older cards, they must be for mining, I don't know why as it's not profitable though.

I don't think a very high percentage will "quickly realize" anything.
Else they would have realized beforehand and not started mining in the first place.

This is great!

All these high end GPUs are going to be bought up by the uninformed.

They will get home, plug them in, start mining, and quickly realize that they made a big mistake.

This means I will be able to buy myself some very nice 2nd hand graphic cards on Ebay very soon!

Not exactly useful for BTC mining any more. I thought it was just interesting to see a company as large as Newegg mention Bitcoin in any advertisement regarless of how accurate it is.

I still can't believe not a single GPU make has started doing so.

Manufacturers are likely aware that miners (scrypt) are buying up all available GPU's?

Except this isn't true in the slightest. The GPUs bought for alt coin mining is only a drop in the bucket compared to GPUs sold for graphocs.

Well if it's custom made it is most likely bad. Look at iBuyPower they are using i3 which is water cooled in their top tier for mining.  Roll Eyes

Yeah Newegg is helping with the Bitcoin hype but it's not really realistic to be mining with any gpu as far as I can tell.  I guess for Newegg it's whatever can help them sell!
