Vitalik Buterin: Ethereum Will Eventually Achieve 1 Million Transactions Per Second

Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, has explained in a recent OmiseGO AMA session that with second-layer solutions such as Sharding and Plasma, the Ethereum network will eventually be able to process 1 million transactions per second and potentially more than 100 million transactions per second.

Scalability Struggles of Leading Blockchain Networks
Previously, at various conferences and presentations, Buterin emphasized that the Ethereum blockchain protocol and decentralized blockchain networks, in general, are struggling to deal with scalability issues.

In September 2017, during an interview with venture capital investor Naval Ravikant at the Disrupt SF 2017 conference hosted by TechCrunch, Buterin noted that bitcoin and Ethereum have been processing three to six transactions per second at peak capacity. He added that for the blockchain to support large-scale payment networks such as Visa, stock markets like Nasdaq, and Internet of Things (IoT) networks, it will have to process hundreds of thousands of transactions per second.  https://www.ccn.com/vitalik-buterin-ethereum-will-eventually-achieve-1-million-transactions-per-second/

Crypto Assets Could Reduce Demand for Central Bank Money: IMF Director

The role of cryptocurrencies in the evolution of money remains a valid debate which has lingered for the best part of the last decade. How the emergence of digital assets will affect the existing monetary system that is upheld by central banks is a subject that is attracting a lot of attention.

Cryptocurrencies represent digital means of transaction in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of units of currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently of a central bank.

Crypto Startup Blockchain Hits 25 Million Wallets

Blockchain, the UK based provider of cryptocurrency wallets and services, has reported reaching a milestone of 25 million wallets this week, according to Yahoo Finance. Much of the growth has been in the US, where the company has rolled out bitcoin sales in recent months.

Blockchain Registers 25 Millionth Crypto Wallet
The significance of the milestone is tempered by the fact that the 25 million figure exceeds the number of bitcoin addresses that have a positive balance, according to data from BitcoinPrivacy, a website that supports bitcoin address privacy and analyzes bitcoin addresses in the interest of supporting privacy.

The website claims there are currently 22,057,779 bitcoin addresses with a positive balance and 20,812,887 unique wallets with a positive balance. This would indicate that many of Blockchain’s 25 million wallets are empty or that a large number of users hold ether but not bitcoin.

Blockchain’s customer base nevertheless now doubles that of Coinbase, which in November shared a number of 13 million users. Blockchain’s 25 million wallets surpass the customer bases of TD Ameritrade and Charles Schwab (though an individual may have multiple Blockchain wallets). https://www.ccn.com/crypto-startup-blockchain-hits-25-million-wallets/
