Russia was already openly supporting Ethereum, and it is not surprising that they have done mining. It is not hard to understand that they wanted to gain more control over Bitcoin with their explanations.

Russia is expected to ban the mining of alternative cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, in the country. It hasn't said that people will be stopped from using them, however.
A lot of ongoing stuff is there in Russia about crypto and one person is claiming onething and someone else is claiming another. Russia first asked miners to come and mine in Russia, and then they claim to regulate exchanges or even block them, then Putin asks officials not to concentrate on bitcoin but at the same time they want to launch their own coin called coinrubble or something, and now this. Looks like Russia is giving a tough competition to China and JP Morgan.

Seems like the members of BRICS are turning their back on bitcoin and other altcoins. But in truth these regulation won't do anything to bitcoin and I believe no matter how much these Governments try to bully the bitcoin miners and the users, they won't be able to stop bitcoin and altcoin's from rising! They should just deal with it  Cool Cool Cool

All I know is that I know nothing.
First they announce a ban and then they regulate it. That's the strategy countries like China had been doing.
Anyways, a regulation is better than a ban because there will at least be movement in the market than no movement at all.
Regulation in crypto currency mining may cause trouble to miners as mining itself takes so much of discomfort and regulation above it will just difficulties to it. The time has come when Crypto market is making sharp turns. Better be careful on each step.

the question that you should have asked when you heard the news was who are "they"?
if you think "they" is the government officially announcing bitcoin ban then you have heard some FUD or misunderstood the news.

saying Russia banned bitcoin, altcoins, mining,... is like saying USA banned them based on what JP Morgan CEO talked about.

I think there will be a lot of Russia regulation in the future.

Every country will do as same as Russia.

Cryptocurrency will be finally follow regulation

Maybe not the same though..
On the same site there is a news story about Russia fining the program Telegram for not handing over user data.
This is typical with China / Russia and other dictatorships / communist regimes.
UK/US/CAN etc would probably handle things differently.. we don't roll tanks down on students. (like China did)
I fully agree with you. Regulation should and will be over time in all countries. But not in the same way as in Russia and China - there is a feeling that they ban everything that they don't understand and actually don't want to understand. Well, that's what to change? Whoever wants to, will still use (VPN, other services), as happens with Telegram.
I heard that in Russia VPN is also prohibited, but how will they track it?

Be A Digital Miner
What is the silly claim!? Almost nobody mine BTC directly now. And soon the same thing will happen with ethereum. Russian government do not understand the question but trying to control it. There are too many alternatives like Musicoin, ZCash, Zen, ETC and so on.

Well i am eager to see what they actually do technically.
It's still up in the air to some degree.. news is news.

And guy.. i did not forget to 'bold' Bitcoin earlier.
Did YOU forget Ethereum is a rigged manipulated ICO gimmick scheme coin APP's "smart contract" fuel token coin cloning system ?
Lets not simply bundle Bitcoin and ETH together like they are the same thing.
One is a fairly launched currency and the other is not.

You know people it really pisses me the fuck off how you overlook all the bad points of Ethereum.
And you yammer on like it's comparable to BTC.
I could write a book on all the negative crap about ETH and you all just parade around as though it's "fake news".

I am not surprised they want to crack down on either coin but for different reasons.
BTC offers the world freedom and ETH an offshoot that is bad in many ways (ICO tornado of bullshit)
Anyway.. Wink
When i hear about news like this i keep thinking about when Putin met with Butters "news" going around way back.
I bet Butters is watched like a hawk by Russian secret service or hell, even working for them.
Putin wants control and he has his finger on Butters.. who CONTROLS Ethereum.
Back when ETC became a thing with the fork drama Butters told the exchanges to freeze the coin.. and they did.
What part of decentralization are you guys having a hard time with ?
Is it the king butters sitting on his throne talking on Twitter about dumping 25% of his "holdings" ?
Or when he PM's the world and says stop using the coin until i change it ?
Or when he premines all the coins keeps a ton of them then sells you the rest ?

You know i am not sure how a sane person with integrity could support his gimmick scheme coin ICO bullshit.
Honestly i don't get it.
I keep pointing out how V. Butters the Russian did this and did that and you all go silent.
And.. keep supporting Ethereum.
What the fuck for ?
Because it's turned out to be good for profits and a great ICO coin cloning platform ?

Problem is.. it's poison to crypto.
I told you all before a million times.. bad coins bring bad results.
It forces govt hands to inflict regulations we will not want.

And here we fucking go.. like i god damn told ya.
BTC was out for 8 years with out this news guys.
ETH rolls out getting popular and evolves into a worlds ICO clone platform then bam.. problems.
It wasn't Bitcoin that needed to be in BOLD in my first comment here  Cheesy

Expecting followups, on the other side we have Japan doing amazing job stabilzing the market and not regulating it. As more countries take this action, the less privacy and annonimity we will have.
This is why PoS coins will become much better and much stronger in the future.
