Is there anything new? There are several similar third party plugins available, right? I guess someone should make a comparison test between all of them. That would make a nice article. Who will do it first, coindesk or cointelegraph?

Well, maybe it has already been done.

This is great news, for both Bitcoin and Bitpay. I am happy that Bitpay is bouncing back from their lay offs earlier this month and the story about $1.8 million hack.

This will also help Bitcoin as it will be much easier to integrate it for customers to receive payments in the future.

... just a pity these companies just convert everything back into fiat.  Roll Eyes

I know what you mean but I don't see other way that people accept Bitcoin at the moment except this way, with the payment processors. Once we grow enough and become stable enough, payment processors will not be needed but know I think they are just necessary, especially for growing our user base and improving adoption. We just need to such people into our ecosystem, people that never heard of and used Bitcoin.

Is this a division of Bitpay? I do not think so... " BitcoinPay is also a daughter company of Confirmo LTD since 2013. Over 400 merchants use BitcoinPay services. " No mention is

made of it being part of Bitpay. Anyways it's good to see innovation in the merchant sector and new ways to adopt Bitcoin payment with plugins.

Anything to make Bitcoin more widespread... just a pity these companies just convert everything back into fiat.  Roll Eyes

I have found article in Cointelegraph

BitcoinPay has announced the launch of plugin for stores using the OpenCart Online Shopping Solution that allows integrating digital money payments into their e-commerce platforms.
That is really great,Merchants are free to choose to receive money in fiat or in bitcoin, easy integration, low fee

That is something what bitcoin needs to grow http://cointelegraph.com/news/115421/opencart-online-shops-welcome-bitcoin-payments

The part in bold is the most clear example that never will exist some currency free from the fees. There are to many the posts here in bitcointalk which exult the cheap of the movements or use of bitcoin. Bitcoin has fee in sending it from an wallet then are the fee of BitcoinPay (in this case). it will be some other fee invented by the merchants or by the banks if the bitcoin will be regulated in that given country and so on. The result: bitcoin in the same situation of the other currencies. Then why use it? It is not the same the credit card?

In this case 0.8% fee is not a big amount but is a fee. It is entered the concept of "fee" with bitcoin. The called "free currency". This is enough that tomorrow another invented thing between the customer and the merchants ask for another fee. Maybe even higher (0.9%). The road is opened. The fee will never die. And everyone will have reason. Will want to be paid for his "work" offered to the user of this work.

any news about bitcoin is a good news as long as it attract more people to using bitcoin and move it forward in its adoption journey.

but this is not a direct accepting bitcoin, it is through a third party and also there would be additional fees involved to use their service. so i don't think it is that beneficial to use bitcoin instead of cash in this case!

CoinPayments.net already offers plugins for WordPress sites and other types of checkouts, and they accept Bitcoin as well as altcoins for 0.5%.

So unless you need OpenCart, it looks like CoinPayments.net is cheaper.

yep, for me the good news is not about that they are doing it, i mean bitcoinpay, since as you already said this is not "new", the good news is about that there is everyday more and more companies who start thinking about it, and this made me feel a positive feeling about the adoption of the bitcoin.

I agree, there's already a cheaper and better solution. But you're wrong about opencart, they're already supported by coinpayments plugins,
as well as WooCommerse,WHMCS,Zen Cart (info from their faq)

Seams like theres a lot of services struggling to get their cut of customers, i just hope their fee's will get lower than they are now, it's pretty high when you
compare it with bitcoin transaction fee's..

any news that do not impact anything on the price, is not a good news, i'm tired of useless good news, i'm waiting for real good nes that can actually help bitcoin grow

only by elevating its price you ca help bitcoin grow, you can't really thing that bitcoin can go mainstream with 3B market cap...

I'd take a good news about new usage of bitcoins that can boost the adoption to bitcoin being used in illegal operations such as asking online ransom, buying drugs etc. any day and this in long term might affect the price too, the easier it becomes for people to spend bitcoin the more they will prefer to buy and keep it for online usage because of it's convenience and low fees.

I think very similar very often. There's lots of supposed 'good news' but it doesn't reflect in the price does it? Wake me up when we get some actual good news.

Nice to see someone made something that could increase bitcoin adoption Smiley

Even it's third party plugin, it's fee only 0.8% & they provide API for payment too.
Also, merchants can choose to keep bitcoin or trade for fiat with various options.
If they can get many merchants to use their service, i think they really can increase bitcoin adoption

FYI, over 400 merchants already use Bitcoinpay service. Check it here : https://bitcoinpay.com/en/merchants
There aren't any merchants around me, but maybe there's one around you

I'd like to see most web stores have a Bitcoin icon in their list of payment methods they accept. I'm tired of seeing the usual debit/credit card and Paypal options they provide. If this new Bitcoinpay service encourages them to stat accepting Bitcoin it could be the beginning of mass adoption. I hope the low fees makes them wake up and start accepting Bitcoin.

Step by step adoption is good for the long term.

It's not the news that matters, it's how fast a new use for Bitcoin catches on, or if it catches on. If people have a new way to start paying with Bitcoin at web stores, and they start using it then it will help Bitcoin grow. We often hear news of something that doesn't catch on, only after something has caught on does it help Bitcoin adoption.

Step by step adoption is good for the long term. The bitcoin usage give the bitcoin value as a currency. When bitcoin is used more, the rice will rise.

If it saves Merchants money it's a no brainer.  The trust factor is what will bring them on board, if they see others using BTC without issues then this will build confidence.  Demand is a major factor also, if people ask them if they accept Bitcoin enough times they would be more likely to find out about it.

...

Nice find!  The BTC universe needs more and more merchants to accept BTC.  Once we reach a "critical mass", then I think that we are all set (having BTC able to be used in MANY places).

What would be interesting to learn or know would be the total FEES levied on the merchants.  My understanding of credit cards is that it is 3%.  If paying by BTC is less than 3%, than that is a big step.
Marchant fee are posted in article

Bitcoin payments will include a 0.8% processing fee.
looks like we can expect more development from that company

I read the article twice and still missed that!  And that second time I was looking for the cost.  Bwa ha.  Smiley

0.8% sounds pretty good.  If that is a true, inclusive (everything) & transparent number, I agree, there is much to look forward to.  Whether it is the merchants saving +/- 2% or the customers saving some too, that is a very good thing.

In the USA credit card use is insured by the FDIC so there is value in using CC's that hasn't been addressed by bitcoin as of yet...lower fees are great but extra protection is pretty good too.

That shouldn't matter too much when you are buying from big reputable companies.

High rating on ebay/amazon, walmart, that kind of stuff you shouldn't need to worry about the ability for a charge back.

Any dubious website would be a different story ofcourse.
