in the state of how internet technology works, it costs 10x + more for protection /hr then it does to attack and take down a site. As long as nitrogen is doing its best to keep our BTCs safe and will pay everyone out, im a happy customer.

We were definitely being extorted by this person over a period of time in the past - these are old messages. We made these payments to buy time to add the required infrastructure in order to prevent future attacks.
While they did not bloat the article with all of the emails and PMs we provided, this information was already revealed in our public disclosure with Coin Telegraph, which you can read here: http://cointelegraph.com/news/112606/nitrogensports-goes-public-to-combat-extortion-blackmail-and-slander.
We made the conscious decision to stop paying this extortionist, and we've been incredibly lucky to have the support of the entire bitcoin community during this process.

Somewhat disappoint... Almost sounds like the US negotiating with terrorists. Nitrogen why not improve security so you don't have to deal with terrorists?
We definitely understand your feelings; we were disappointed too. Like we mentioned, we definitely used that time to increase our protection, and are not paying this extortionist.

As you know, we've been working through multiple large DDoS attacks over the last little while. We have a very persistent extortionist who has been taking advantage of the fact that we would do anything to ensure that you have the best possible experience on our website.
We've made the decision to remain offline while this DDoS attack continues in order to set an example to this hacker, and to protect the bitcoin community from future attacks.
We love bitcoin, and won't allow it to be a way for hackers to do this to all of you.
