I remember the old noobie jail. When I first joined here I had to get vouched to skip it. Not sure how much it will help, but the spam is worse today then back then for sure.

Maybe we could implement some kind of newbie jail with becoming a copper member being sufficient to get out of newbie jail.

This would resolve most of the problems regarding spambots (as how they currently work).

I wholeheartedly agree that the noob jail needs to be brought back.  Now that some campaigns are explicitly telling applicants that posting in spam megathreads isn't allowed, friggin' noobs are just creating shit topics in the form of shit questions that require yes/no answers, or worse, threads like "What altcoin pump next?" which also gives you license to post lists of altcoins and call it a day.  That's bullshit.  I think at the very minimum, newbies should not be allowed to start threads.  I don't care if it seems unfair to noobs; you can get over yourself, because it'll help the forum overall, and noob status only lasts for 30 days anyway.  So suck it up.  I'd be open to pretty much any type of solution to the shitposting problem, because bitcointalk has gotten all but unreadable at this point.

Another alternative is to restrict members to one personal account and one business account, and ban account sales.

Also banning some of the sig programmes would improve the image of Bitcoin, and could possibly improve the quality of posting.

every thread is getting over run by bots

noob jail for 100 posts and manual approval to exit needs to be brought back else the entire board will be over run with bots and threads full of comments that are not remotely relevant to the topic of the thread.
Do you imagine, how much additional work forum staff would get to approve/reject every new post made by newbies? It sounds like a goid idea only for smaller and less active forum. Maybe it would be better to allow to post only in beginners & help board and if you want to post in other boards, you will have to pay a fee. Something similar like Copper member rank.
Hows that fair to newbies like me?I suggest you do an ID verification in every accounts so that it will be less trouble for the mods to identify bots if theres really bots.
ID verification on Bitcoin forum? You must be kidding. Bitcoin users prefer to stay anonymous. And these spam posts are mostly made not by bots, but by newbies and account farmers.

They'll never do that, because bitcointalk.org would simply dig its own grave.

They would give ( from an aspect of the administrator's side of things) themselves an unnecessary amount of work, and decrease both their active userpool and visitors dramatically, which will result in less adrevenue, less signature campaigns ( which again would result in less spammers/less posters).

There's also a good amount of real posters who dedicate so much time to this forum/help people because of the monetary reward. These will slowly disappear aswell.

lol... look at the replies, it's happening to your thread and they don't sound like "real" newbies but alt accounts  Roll Eyes
If I'm not mistaken, a few years back newbies were restricted to post only on SF Beginners & Help
I'm not sure why and when theymos changed the rule but he must've good reason

It's not meant to benefit newbies, it's meant to keep the forum functioning. Considering your post history, you'd never get out of noob jail.

I couldn't agree more.
On top of this: I'd happily help out with this: give selected posters a small daily list of noobs to assess, so it doesn't give Mods more work. I don't mind checking a few users each day, and if a few dozen other users do the same, we can easily handle all new accounts.

The new optional Copper Membership could open the door for more restrictive "noob jail" policies.

It's only going to get worse as the price of Bitcoin surges, more money in the market equals more paid shills and more bot accounts.

The lack of a better alternative is what keeps people on BCT, still wading waist deep in bullshit just to find that one good comment.

Seriously it's like 80/20 bullshit/quality.

Used to be at least 50/50 back in the days.

I agree bots are everywhere, but not all the newbies should suffer i love reading but i am too lazy to make comments, but heres the thing if they will implement the noobjail is that fair to newbies?what if the answer to their questions can never be found in google?the last option is to ask it here right? they removed that feature on purpose if thats not improving forum's experience they will remove it.

Whats your problem about newbies?I agree with you theres a lot of useless threads created by the newbies, but arent you started as a newbie too?you are being too harsh to us.I dont regularly putting comments but when i saw your thread i couldnt stop myself to give my opinion. Some of the newbies are busy reading threads thats why they dont rank up here.

the problem is obvious to anyone reading the ann threads lately

bots are over running this forum

if these bot owners had to make 50-100 genuine sensible posts before being allowed to post on the main boards that would prevent it.

And yes when i was a noob there was a noob jail.

They can read anything they want. Posting on the main boards and ann threads should be reserved for members that are proven non bots or spammers.

If you are a genuine member 50 -100 posts is not that much.

noob jail could have the same sections we have here.

noobs are not the problem - bots and spammers are.

Also the buying and selling of accounts should be crushed on this board. I see people buying and selling accounts openly on here. It is ludicrous to let hero and legends sell their accounts since the trust that goes with such members can be used to scam people

the other solution is not allow noob posters to build any rank until after 100 posts if they are reported or flagged for bot like behaviour the account is teriminated.

I also think accounts should have 2 factor verification with email and i have no idea why this is the only forum that does not have this

maybe the solution is to limit the thread starters, they are the problem they are asking useless questions here,my account is months old but i prefer to say newbie i dont like to post or comments here in forum,i only read whats interesting.

I dont undestand what you are saying,100 posts ? manual approval for new threads are good to prevent useless posts or topics,I am newbie here but i believe they removed that feature on purpose.

You should increase moderators in every discussions, and i dont know how they are using bots here in forum.I am newbie right now but i dont think it will be fair to the new accounts if you do that some of us are not active here in forum but we read in every new posts.

And how do you identify bots?
