I'm definitely not surprised by their actions and activities. They choose to receive the payment in Bitcoin just because they thought they can get it with privacy and not be tracked. It can happen with just about any crypto but because Bitcoin is the most popular, I feel like that's why they went for it. What the boys did dey very disappointed for the father because these are two boys that he has cared for immensely only for them to stab him in the back with that kidnap stunt. I dey sure say him go dey in disbelief when he find out the truth of the matter.
I don't think it has anything to do with what they were taught about crypto. Looks to me like they knew what crypto was from the get-go before deciding to use it as the payment method.

The question should be, is it just Bitcoin alone that can be used in this scam like manner, USDT as a stable currency could aswell be a means for theft like this, so it's an ill mistake if a day comes and the government are on the move to end the existence of Bitcoin in the country base on this involvement then it is no valid reason.
People fail to realise this quickly especially the first on the list even those who don't use/get it illegally simply because of the misconception of thinking that once they have bitcoin the price will just surge and they becomes rich whereas this is not usually the case you have to HODL to enjoy an actual appreciation of bitcoin
Their involvement of Bitcoin on this operation was targeted at the anonymity, they were finding a good hide out to be untraceable with just using probably a wallet address from trust wallet or Metamask this will cover them from risking any of their confidential information to avoid being traced by police.
Getting bitcoin illegally literally reduced the freedom of being able to speak up about it, especially the part on how you accumulated such about because of fear .
Though in our country they're hardly scared of showing off, claiming the name btc boys which gave off the idea before to many Nigerians that bitcoin is used only by scammers though these set of scammers are still scared of EFCC but are not scared to fluent it in public.
So sad seeing the purpose of Bitcoin being diverted into fraudulent activities, this is what keeps government on the urge to attack Bitcoin since they are not in control or regulate the affairs and hardly for them to track down scammers like this especially if they are used to the blockchain.

This are things that people usually used to paint bitcoin black and I won't be surprised if the government speak about this whereas though millions of naira, if not up to billion, has been used only this year to pay kidnappers.

Nor be just about to know about bitcoin but na where u take learn about bitcoin from and wetin dem tell you about am. Becos how these young Nigerians go take plan to kidnap themselves come dey ask one of them papa for 50 million Naira in Bitcoin but when the papa send 5 million Naira in Bitcoin, them blow 2 million.
