looks like one of those little quiet projects, that nobody knows about until it hits a 1 million dollar marketcap overnight.

The Nexus project is two years in the making. Developer is coding some really advanced code and protocol to not dethrone Bitcoin but to improve upon it.

You can get a grasp of his vision and the project from his interview here:

You should consider Emercoin, a leading digital currency and blockchain platform which focuses on innovation in all sectors of business and consumer use. We hold a top 20 position in the global digital currency market cap listing (http://coinmarketcap.com/) and are trading at just under 0.09 cents USD. Now, I might be biased however this is  quite undervalued given the numerous innovative services and features the currency has. When you compare us to the other top 30 digital currencies, what they have delivered to market and the impact the currency and underlying blockchain is having, we are several undervalued.

Also, Microsoft has just partnered with Emercoin so that we can deliver EMC and our blockchain services to the World via the Azure Cloud marketplace: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/azure-blockchain-as-a-service-update-3/

Here is a sample of our technologies that are implemented on the Emercoin blockchain and are being used by customers around the globe:

EMC SSH - Our decentralized solution for secure shell management
EMC SSL - Our decentralized solution for online security and passwordless authentication
EMC DNS - Censorship-resistant domain name system that improves upon Namecoin
EMC TTS - Our trusted time stamping service
EMC STREAM - Micropayment library for streaming digital media of all types
EMC LNX - The first decentralized pay-per-click advertising network of its kind
EMC DPO - Our digital proof of ownership solution for physical or digital goods and services
EMC InfoCard - Storage for digital business cards for use with EMC SSL

Only Doge currently have more or less future from altcoins, because many sites are using it. Regarding Dash - it is the question - I am also thinking about Dash currently.  Wink

I think Doge will be far more less valuable in the future and many different sites will discontinue using it.

LOL.  Ethereum and Dogecoindark shouldn't be in one sentence.  You just had to sneak Dogecoindark in there with Ethereum to make it look legit...  You just had to...

So what is not legit about DOGED?

I take it back.  It is totally legit.  Everyone please invest in dogecoindark.  You'll love it.

Is that like the difference between a runny shit and a solid shit? I figured dogecoindark was like dogecoin after taking some pepto and you get those dark green shits.

Every decent coin has its own angle and little bit of innovation. I love reading the latest bits of tech. Does anyone know if there is  blockchain tech that could embed data (perhaps readings from a sensor) for transmission around the network?  Use case would allow user to monitor and explore the chain to extract values from any time.

Also i remember xst being a coin of interest at one point and whatever nhz /nxt were going for.

Do not know much about coding, but check NETcoin.

It is a POW/POS coin, I have tried many POS coins, and NET is the only one that I have found that stakes easily (just hours away after putting some coins in wallet), rewarding an amount that is an annual % of the coins held. Futhermore, the more coins the higher the % you stake (in a sliding scale). It is literally that having interest on your coins every X hours, max velocity being 1 every 6 hours.

The coin has been going for 2 years now and is quite alive.

I would pick Gridcoin (GRC), as it is one of the more interesting coins out there.

Gridcoin (GRC) replaces mining with doing research for scientific projects, for example to cure Ebola (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/oet1/overview.do), fold proteins (https://boinc.bakerlab.org/) or find aliens (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/).

From a user's point of view, he simply has to run simulations from the different projects using the BOINC software (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/). Then the network comes to a consensus, who has contributed how much computing power to BOINC, which can bee seen for example here (http://www.gridresearchcorp.com/gridcoin/?result&t=CPID_Leaderboard). In some blocks this consenus is saved in the blockchain and the reward one gets when staking a block is proportional to how much research was recently done for BOINC by this researcher.

I also has very active development, here is the main forum: https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/
More information and tutorial to set it up here: www.gridcoin.us
If you are interested visit our IRC: https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.freenode.net:6667/#gridcoin

I am looking for noteable altcoins to look into what other implementation of software there is out there. Among the thousands of altcoins, I was hoping at least a few would stand out and have some interesting implementations code wise that could be used as future sidechain concepts.

I know of Ethereum, which is however not Bitcoin code based, which wont fit my need. I am also familiar with Namecoin, which is the direction I am looking for other reimplementations at. Please dont spam me with a copy/paste coin as I am not here to invest, but just curious about the technicalities of alt-codes.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/credits-cre-sha256-sidechain-new-block-deposit-feature-official-thread-1037244 Credits
Side chain Altcoin.. Can be claimed from BTC without spending it.

Credits has very active developers. It is first proof of deposit coin and works well. But it is never hypered.

Notable and sidechain worthy are not the same, some notable firsts,

Namecoin - the first appcoin, first altcoin ever
Tenebrix - the first altcoin to use scrypt
Ixcoin  - first premine
Freicoin - first to use demurraging
Litecoin - largest altcoin
Peercoin - first proof of stake
Megacoin - new difficulty algo
Anoncoin - the first privacycoin
Quark - the first chained algo coin
Auroracoin - the first country coin
Bytecoin - first cryptonote coin
Huntercoin - first gamified coin
Bitshares - first tiered membership coin
Dash - first with instant transactions
Etherium - first turing complete

I realize this is a bitcoin forum, but just wanted to say thank you for making the time to post something like this. I get tired of all the people who come to comment on these threads just to say altcoin sucks and bitcoin is better. Found a few more coins I want to learn about Cheesy

I second that. Thank you for this list and the brief but informative descriptions next to coin.  A lot of interesting coins out there.  I like litecoin, ehterium, doge, dash....i like them all.

UNO could be put on enterAbyss's list Notable and sidechain worthy are not the same, some notable firsts LIST.
First to mine 80% on an alt next work, then fork to Merge Mining on the big bad Hash network of bitcoin ... ie ... solid and fair distro then flip to solid security.  And now is a trade pair with null inflation, second if you include XRP as the first of that type.

P.S. ETHlightclone and BBQ are wise to invest in.

Vanillacoin

Scaling: Multitier network, 100 on-chain TPS and 15k off-cain TPS with ZeroTime.

Instant: ZeroTime gives decentralized zero-conf transactions.

Node Incentives: Rewards nodes (SuperPeers) for holding VNL.

ChainBlender [WIP]: upcoming anonimity features, like mixing (and probably messaging).

Modern codebase with a different communication protocol.
