I guess Theymos is feeling generous lately? Tongue
Nowadays, there is no odds to see new donators (with 10 BTC donated), not mention about VIP (with 50 BTCdonated). The last donator is Claymore in 2017. Even he is the last donator, he was the new one in 2017 after a very long time no one donated to the forum (theymos said this).
Thanks to Claymore, the first Donator in quite some time.
See: Stats on active & merit status of Donators & VIPs after 10 years

As I pointed out above, I guess nowadays if one people have convincing reasons, he or she might get acceptance to change username but the odds is still low.  Grin

Seems theymos changed his mind lately about name change. Its looking a cool opportunity to change name who have a good reason. Sometimes I thought about name change, but I were not aware that was possible for general user like me. On the other hand likely it will quite complicated to regain same reputation what I gained previously. Most likely theymos will change mind again to stop change name when he will receive ton of request. Let's see if there is more similar cases.

Thanks for the PM.

Yes, I requested theymos yesterday & woke up this morning with surprise as well. I started working with a project recently & I think My Bitcointalk account name wasn't professional at all. This is the reason for the change.I guess thanks for noticing Cheesy
I thought it would become more difficult, especially after what happened with that "Alia" girl, who was later revealed to be a scam Alt account.
I did not expect that there would be many causes of a name change.
It seems that with the difficulty of ranking up accounts, a name change is possible.
I hope the legendary members who "earned 1,000 Merits" will be given an opportunity to change their names even once.

You guys probably already noticed Killyou72 is now FFrankie as well, right?

I guess Theymos is feeling generous lately? Tongue

That change happened right after he and I finished a trade.  I left him feedback, then noticed I had left feedback for an unrecognized name, but I had specified that it "Killyou72" in the feedback.  I thought I was losing it, but then he PM'd me and I realized that the accounts name had changed.  I can see how a guy would grow out of a name like "Killyou72."

Blacknavy recently changed his name from Matthias9515.  I guess Theymos is taking requests.

In his case it was probably a good move to request a name change to try and get away from the drama associated with him in the past year and make kinda a fresh start.

I would imagine that as long as theymos isn't bombarded with requests and you have a good reason, you have a decent chance at a change.

Crazy I hadn't realized. The name did stick out as odd that I hadn't noticed it before as I was browsing boards, I just didn't bother looking further. Had I gone back far enough in my messages or left feedback then it would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

Maybe theymos let me spell my name right lol.

From what I've seen, theymos sometimes grants wishes. It might be a name change, or a custom title. The more he recognizes your name, the better your odds are Smiley

I like to believe I'd qualify for a custom title if I ask, but right now it's like Schrödinger's cat: as long as I don't ask, I may or may not qualify Cheesy
Not only this, in 2019, I know one user who woke up after years and made a request to change account's username because of privacy. Admin accepted it within one to three days (I did not remember exactly) and that account's username changed to a random one (with a mixture of alphabetical characters and numbers).

Thanks, I'll need to manually update this, otherwise I can't link the name to a userID for my Trust list viewer.

Unfortunately, theymos' Trust data dump shows usernames instead of userIDs, and I can't easily scrape them.

Maybe you can get him to post an actively updated index of which UIDs belong to which usernames. He seems to appreciate the external data aggregator type services, so I don't see why he wouldn't if he has the time.

Kinda cool theymos allowed a change in your name being as I thought that was reserved for VIPs or donators only.

No worries. I thought it would be rude to just talk about you. Figured it was something simple, and congrats on whatever the project is you are working with.

No worries; I seemed to recall something like this happeneing before when you first started the project so figured it was worth a nudge.

I know there was one other exception and not for an active account either. Pretty sure they used their full real name, and had requested it be changed for some reason or another. theymos I believe made it a random string of numbers or something. I'd have to dig back a while.

So it was weird I was reading my PM's, and saw a name I didn't recognize. The reason this was weird because we had conducted a trade. Turns out one of my trading partners has a new name - UID 815246 Murat formerly iwantapony.

There is nothing shady here I just found this weird as it's a rare occurrence. I'll drop them a PM if they feel like talking about it, but figured I wouldn't be the only one wondering about this. @LoyceV does this mess up any of your viewers??
