AFAIK the magnet link is a hash code that directly opens the default torrent client on you machine and starts downloading the file. There is no need for the alias if you are having a webpage. The user clicks on the link "Pretty Woman" (which is a magnet link) and the default torrent client is opened up, no need for the alias. Or do I miss something?

Let me sort this out in my head (ignore the fire and smoke coming from my ears):

1. we bypass the Nxt alias
2. hash code is sent in Nxt message
3. Nxt client redirects magnet link to default web browser (or clients built in torrent engine)

Am I close?

vintagetrex: it would we nice if you bought Nxt by DGEX, price would go up and more people would join Nxt and the snowball would be bigger and bigger.

Hahaha dude you understand.

Look, theres innovations that could be made that could have a network built around them, but right now I don't see those being planned.

People buying them believe that there will only ever be 1 billion coins in existence right?  But thats wrong
 Wrong

there will be infinite Nxt coins in existence meaning it is a terrible store of value.

Do you have actual arguments at hand so one could discuss?

Did any bitcoin fork manage to kill original? Are you stoned?

NEXT IS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DEFENSELESS AGAINST A COMPETITOR GETTING 51% OF DEVELOPERS, AT WHICH POINT THE SOURCE CODE AND "NETWORK" (WHICH DOESNT EXIST BECAUSE OF LACK OF MINING) CAN BE COPIED INFINITELY

How is this different from bitcoin?
- with bitcoin, the source can be copied infinitely but the network of miners cannot be.  If all the developers moved to litecoin, bitcoin would still have a large mining network.

NOT TO BURST EVERYONE'S BUBBLE….

but Nxt is completely 100% susceptible to the 51% attack

its the 51% developer attack.

Please read the wiki re: PoS vs. 51%.

yes yes I understand it is not susceptible to the POW 51% attack.

wtf did you say it's 100% susceptible and then turn around and say it's not? Are you being willfully stupid for effect, or are you a genuine idiot?

Now that you've dropped the masquerade of sincerely investigating Nxt and it's benefits, can we just ignore you? Or are you going to start reading the wiki and contributing to the thread in a constructive manner?

Negative criticism is constructive; being stupid is counter-productive to your cause, which looks like FUD. Do you think you stopped anyone from considering Nxt by reading your quote above?

no I am figuring all of this out on my own right now actually.  Are u talking of gavin andresen?  smart guy he would have seen through this.  Look, crypto currencies and transaction systems have been around a long time.  Satoshi's breakthrough was basing crypto currency on an unsolvable problem.  This made them scarce.

Yes, I'm talking about gavin andresen. This was his point of view.

Let's continue the discussion...

STRAW MAN.  I never said anything about being against technical progress, but I'm not sure Nxt is technical progress.  Its potentially the devolution of crypto currency.

People used gold as a store of value for centuries because it is SCARCE and has some intrinsic value.  There is nothing scarce about Nxt coins from my understanding.

Who said that NXT is scarce?

People buying them believe that there will only ever be 1 billion coins in existence right?  But thats wrong, Nxt source code could be copied and restarted infinitely.  As a matter of fact, the block chain is scrubbed yearly to prevent block chain bloating.

there will be infinite Nxt coins in existence meaning it is a terrible store of value.  As soon as the development bubble bursts, the price will crash unless they add some features that I don't see being planned

Honestly, I am here for an open, logical debate.  I don't want to mislead or use bs arguments, I just want to get to the facts before I invest into Nxt.

edit: I sometimes get excited and throw in an occasional troll but overall i'm debating logically to try to feel out this coin

Anyone could create something better than Nxt and this is good. Why should we be against technical progress?

NOT TO BURST EVERYONE'S BUBBLE….

its the 51% developer attack.

If someone gets 51% of the development talent, gets old source code etc,  Nxt is completely destroyed by….

Nxt1 Nxt2 Nxt3 Nxt4 Nxt5   …… Nxt 1000000

has anyone thought of this??

Yes. And noone cares. Coz "Nxt5" doesn't make sense. "Nxt" is always "next".

RED HERRING

The same question can be asked about Bitcoin. Why hasn't it been killed by a better altcoin? And yes, there are better altcoins. If you want to be sure about your investment, choose something less risky than cryptocurrencies. It's a high risk high reward gamble that might as well just implode in itself.
That goes for every crypto, even Bitcoin.

Thank God you weren't ready to dump your life savings into NXT!

Your faux inquisitiveness is really, really wearing thin. Please read the wiki re: PoS vs. 51%.

yes yes I understand it is not susceptible to the POW 51% attack. However, it is susceptible to being copied and pasted INFINITELY.  As I said before, bitcoin cannot be copied and pasted because the mining network cannot be copied infinitely, unlike the source code.

NXT ISNT BASED ON MINING SO THE ENTIRE THING IS COPY AND PASTABLE!!!!
To combat this problem, the source code is only partially published.  If the rate of generation of new Nxt source code is outpaced by a competitor or group of developers greater than Nxt's dev team, the entire thing can be copied and pasted an infinite number of times.

WOW I AM SAVING SOME PEOPLE A LOT OF MONEY RIGHT NOW

yeah, if you put a magnet link on a website, it can be downloaded directly (then you don't need Nxt ecosystem for it)
... that's what you mean?

Yes, that was my question Smiley

So storing the hash in the alias makes only sense if it is integrated into the client. But why would anyone pay for it (1nxt for registering an alias) if you can have it for free on a website? I am just thinking loud.

hmm, Come-from-Beyond would probably argue, that web DNS will be replaced by decentralized Nxt Dns in the long run and therefore Nxt Alias or something along those lines  Grin

to me, the encrypted messaging of "secret" links is the more interesting use case... (but I'm not a super genius)
