hey, guys, just wanted to say, I've been running NXT on openjdk-7-jre-headless package in Debian instead of openjdk-7-jre, on 512 Mb, and it seems more stable, less memory consumption, hasn't got stuck yet. So if nobody has objections or bad results running it on the headless JRE, I am going to update the Setup guide.
That's not related to the one a guy posted in the giveaway thread, right?
http://nextcoinbox.github.io/nextcoinbox/
I just couldn't figure out the virtual box deal. Maybe Oracle vm was a bad choice.

No, not related.

I just feel that NXT absolutely has to run on 512 Mb with no issues, and openjdk-7-jre-headless seems a better choice vs openjdk-7-jre.

Hey, nextcoin.org owner. Is it the truth? Could u explain this, please?
I do not delete valid posts. I know nothing about this and don't have time to look at it right now. I need to prioritize forum rumours / paranoia / discussion mishaps from individual persons rather low. Thanks

I don't understand what's all this discussion about. Who would want to delete his post. The guy just accidentally deleted it and stated screaming here and there. There are lots of stupid posts from trolls which are not deleted, so why the hell Graviton would delete such ordinary post. Calm down people.

I have 490+ transactions in my gui from creating aliases (I feel like I inputed significantly more than 500x tbh. oh well.)... But blockchain only shows 200-ish Fees total and the transaction ID's aren't on the blockchain... Did I just waste 9 fukkin hours on that shit for nothing  Huh Cheesy Cheesy !!?!

is is possible to use a bitmask or network mask of some sort in allowedUserHosts to allow a whole /24 network without having to put in 255 addresses?

I'll add RegEx in future versions.

I posted this in the "unfair forging" thread on nextcoin.org. Reposting for more visibility:

So there seems to be a misunderstanding in "mining" in PoS. First off, it is not "mining", people gave it a different name (forging) because, well, it's different than mining.

Right now, there is not much transaction volume. Before the alias system was introduced, maybe 15% of blocks had a single transaction in it. Now, it's more like 50-75% of blocks have multiple transactions per block. As more and more features are added, it is highly probable that people may eventually have to compete for spots in a block, so we will see higher rewards from forging. So as of now, yes, forging may not be very profitable in a selfish scenario.

However, people need to consider the altruistic effect of setting up nodes and forging right now. By doing either, you are supporting the network by increasing it's total bandwidth and reducing the chance of an attacker destroying everyone's investment, including your own. You may not see a direct increase in your NXT amount (or you may, if you get lucky), but you are preserving and/or increasing the value of the NXT you have now.

Forging in NXT is not meant to be a free get-rich scheme like many people think it should be. This misconception is due to the fact that many alt-coins are just a clone of bitcoin, and people only mine those coins early on for personal profit at the expense of those who buy in after. Those coins, in the long run, will not ever contribute anything useful. NXT is bigger than that, which is why you see many supporters donating their personal money to set up nodes as well as bounties and rewards for those who contribute to the project. Why should people with the least invested be given an advantage? You can increase your personal stake via multiple methods that don't involve buying it through an exchange. So instead of whining and expecting free handouts and skewed-advantages, perhaps help contribute to the network through various means that have been discussed throughout these forums.

Shouldn't the client ask for the passphrase AGAIN when trying to send NXT?

Good idea!

or ideally, somehow 2 different passphrases.  1 to unlock the client for forging, and 1 to send funds

that could work also.....maybe difficult to remember for many people

If you're able to remember your passphrase then you'll probably doomed. Not you personally, in general.

Please forgive my OCD/Paranoia/ADHD tone while asking, but I much rather have those than deal with the potential future PTSD...

OK... so one has chosen a super secure passphrase... you know one of those that will take a billion gazillion trillion years of non-stop brute force to crack...

Considering that he/she needs to have his/her wallet unlocked to forge and at the same time that wallet needs to have a decent amount of NXT in order to have a chance generating a block...

Shouldn't the client ask for the passphrase AGAIN when trying to send NXT?

How far can a super secure passphrase take you if all a hacker needs is to remotely access your computer and hope you are forging?

Even though I have voted for the partially done features to be completed first... I believe that it is CRITICAL for the client to ask for the passphrase when trying to send NXT.  ...yes, you will have to type in your super long passphrase every time...

If anyone could clear the fog without adding the feature, it is FINE with me!   Wink

Peercoin works the same way, when activating PoS you need to leave the wallet unlocked, which doesn't prompt for passphrase when sending money, creating new addresses, etc.

I agree though, just as a precaution it would be nice if it always prompt for your passphrase when sending money. Although if someone has remote access to your computer they'd get it eventually, would just take silently installing a keylogger to capture the initial request next time you launch NXT.
