Hmm, couldn't say without a white paper/ source code. I would assume its similar to pruning, but "shrinking" could be interpreted as a type of compression.

Actually it's supposed to be such a way:

1. Take all non-zero balances.
2. Generate a new genesis block.
3. Start a new blockchain.
4. Put old blockchain to somewhere for those who wish to check that new genesis block is legit.

Without complicating the network in any noticeable way? What exactly would the peripheral effects of this be?

If u "just" change this value, ur block will be rejected by the others. If it's legit changes then blockchain will be growing faster, fees will be smaller, people will be happier.

With blockchain pruning seems like we could have a very healthy, scalable, flexible network. Esp Vs. BTC.

It's not pruning. BCNext called this "shrinking". Is there any difference btw? I'm not a native English speaker.

How does one safely detect orphans?

If I have the block at tip it will not have a 'nextblock', so checking 'nextblock' on that block's 'previousblock' will detect if it got orphaned, but what if the last two blocks get orphaned, i.e. a blockchain reorg? Is that even possible to happen in NXT?

If all orphaned blocks get stripped of 'nextblock' then I can safely walk back until I find one that has that property, but with 2 orphans in a row will the older one still point to the next?

Yes, a blockchain reorg will produce orphans. To check if it's an orphaned block, simply compare "lastBlock" returned by "getState" and id of the checked block.

Yes, 2 orphans in a row will be "double-linked" via "previousBlock" and "nextBlock".

Current limit is 255 payments per minute.

Can this be raised in the future? Would this be easy to do?

Yes. As easy as changing "255" to some other value.

Bitcoin with the current block size has an ability to process ~7 transactions per second.

What about NXT? Haven't see this info anywhere posted.

Is there a reason why I keep getting a null point exception error with 0.3.15?

Yes, wait blocks.nxt stops growing (due to blockchain downloading) and then try again.

You can't complain that the big holders aren't distributing if the demand doesn't exist. Give people a reason to want it.

first, i am lightyears away from complaining and second, i am talking about activity not distribution.
a lack of demand doesn't mean you should lay back, watch and just wait others do the job.
why not start the client and protect/stabilize the peer as a bare minimum?. no demand nessesary for this.
i am sure there are more you can do. it is interesting to see that the most entusiastic supporters (besides
the handfull here) are mostly very small account holders. i can see this also in other language threads.

well, i have said what i want to say in this. if you need to depend your activity on others activities like whitepapers
etc. then do so. decide yourself what is the best.

Since this is where most of the stakeholders and developers hang out, any thoughts on this thread?

Is Hoarding Going to Hurt NXT?
http://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,329.0.html

yes, this starts to be a problem. it is not the pure amount (which is absolutly ok) but the inactivity i see with these accounts.
the most top accounts have just one or very little movements. they don't create fees and more worse they even don't mine
and protect the network. if all would act like - let the others do the work - nxt will face a hard time shortly. i am a firm
nxt supporter and had planned two more usefull services adding a positive image for nxt, instead doing the copy cat you find
everywhere but i think i will wait also to see in what direction nxt is moving now.

btw,  the blockchain explorer is nearly finished and would like to thank every donator. the amount is sufficient to get a nice domain
name and an upgrade from the current one core vps to a quadcore for a full year. this vps should be able to handle the load easily.
an additional please for the native speakers here. i need text corrections for the nxt-bce. please send them via pm or bm to prevent
polluting this thread. it would be professional to have a correct wording  and naming at nxt-bce.

anyone having balance issues. i sent 1,200,000 to my new super duper secure wallet 40+ random charachters. and it arrived nice and safe. now ive just had my 1 mill sent from dgex into my new super duper safe account and i can see the 1 mill. both transactions are in the transaction history. but my 1,200,000 is not in my balance. the history is there but no funds only the 1 mill from dgex. any one had same issue

Yes, we have it. Replace ur files with https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/67242472/nxtfiles.zip and catch the recent blocks.
