wait im confused. is the code open source? has anyone audited it? im VERY interested in a 100% proof of stake coin but i cant drop real resources into closed source code. that would be economic suicide. what convinced other people to do this?

Take note of megacoin
I'm sure everyone noticed the $0.012 to nearly $2 recent jump in 2weeks.  Yes thats 150x.  Look at their website and ANN thread in bitcointalk.org. nothing revolutionary about this coin at all. All marketing. Different languages etc

Take note take heed

2Kool4Skewl should change the download link in the starting post from 0.2.19 to 0.3.3.

And include new directions to get the client running, since it's a completely different process now.

Follow this thread in Nextcoin.org to get the latest installation processes. It includes pictures!

The last version (0.3.3) deadlocks very often while trying to get the blockchain. After it hangs, Ctrl-C cannot kill it (because the thread is waiting to obtain a lock and ignores interrupts), so the only way to kill the java process is kill -9. Which leaves blocks.nxt in a corrupted state, so next time I try to start it, it fails with EOFException... not much fun.

Looks like multiple threads are trying to update a HashMap (or several HashMaps) and deadlock one another. Would using a ConcurrentHashMap help?

Code:
"qtp2032502559-269" prio=10 tid=0x00007fb9286dd800 nid=0x4b83 waiting for monitor entry [0x00007fb9041
a2000]
   java.lang.Thread.State: BLOCKED (on object monitor)
at Nxt$Block.pushBlock(Unknown Source)
- waiting to lock <0x00000000f5e3ff28> (a java.util.HashMap)
at Nxt.doPost(Unknown Source)
at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:707)
at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:790)

I see quite a few of the above when sending a kill -3 to the java process.

Why is my timer missing?

Your coins need 1440 confirmations before they can mine. After that it will appear. circa 24h+

Thank you.

so basically a 100% rpemined crypto (sicne all the "currency" had to come from somewhere) - and on top of that you need to pay loads of money just to start making any extra.
On top of that it promotes hoarding currency isntead of trading it then Oo.

Cant call  something thats available for those with big wallets a new bitcoin.. .cmon.

Everyone that has NXT paid for them. All of the NXT that exists was paid for to the creator (BCNext), not premined.
The BTC that was given to BCNext was used to fund the development of NXT.. and as a reward the stakeholders got the first batch of NXT from the genesis block according to how much they donated.

Not a single person got any NXT for free, not even the creator.

It's not a pyramid scheme.
At the beginning of the author NXT distributed in proportion to how much he listed sponsors.
Besides NXT is not so expensive to buy coins and start mining.
When the author makes those resources planned, then NXT really more expensive to buy and it will become more expensive.
http://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,5.msg82.html - in this topic, you can specify your wallet, you will list a few coins for you to understand how it works.

What is the cmd to exit the program normally, instead of killing it?
I use Ctrl+C, but I suppose that kills it..

Thx. Looks like it's the only way. But I see a "Nxt stopped" after ^C. So maybe that is a normal exit.

ok ... got the  "account opened" ...but i still dont see any way i could make any nxt... literally no mining and all i see is people selling it ... so is it a currency for those who already have tons of money to spend?

This is a pure PoS system. You need to have some Nxt in your account to do mining. Mining reward is not new coins - only tx fees. You need to buy substantial amount of Nxt to "mine", but positive side is you can mine on your ordinary computer. No ASICS, GPU, etc.
