Some news regarding Account Control

I'm going to transfer (from BCNext's code to NRS) only Pooled Forging and Account Locking features. All the other features (multi-sig, for example) could be implemented with Autonomous Transactions (developed by CIYAM Open).
If Account Control has multisig, please transfer that also. AT is still a ways away and I dont think we should charge AT execution fees for multisig.

If you wont port the multisig code, at least release it, this is very important.

Any adventurous MAC OSX users willing to give this first alpha Mac version of NXT Solaris a test drive?

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23825856/NXTclient/NXTSolaris-v2.1-OSX32bit.zip

SHA256: 26CA35EE9C701BE033F3EE9E2EC0C1CD2D8D2DCA2D42CD051597263D53E6150E

If you have feedback, you might want to post here.

Thanks!

Damn it, I wanted to go to bed! But I had to download. Smiley

Quick thoughts:

It works! Incredible feature set, more so than Wesleyh's client, but less fluid/responsive/natural than wesleyh's as well. Choices are great to have and this looks like a great client for Mac users that want an all-in-one app. For my tastes, wesley's streamlined approach fits my style better.

Well done. Solaris is light years beyond all the QT cookie cutter apps out there. How NXT is still lingering at .00008 with community efforts like Solaris is beyond me.

 Smiley Thanks!

Will look at the performance and responsiveness once I get a line profiler up and running.

Hey Marcus, that really does look slick. so many options. and seems to work well on OSX but didnt really stress test it. any suggestions on where to push it?

Not really. I've pushed what I usually push, so you should probably push it in your own way to find new bugs and problems. :-)

so a working live asset exchange will be released before mastercoins one?? put up a timer for it! Cheesy

soon, but not a good tactical move to put a timer onto it BEFORE it is reallyreally released  Grin

@AE devs / CfB

I might have stumbled over an AE bug regarding cancellation of BID orders!

Can anyone of you guys please try to reproduce this? I don't think that it is an issue of processing time, because I have waited for quite some time, and also if the order would be '- Unknown order', it should not be returned by getBidOrder!

When I do try to cancel a BID order, I get an error, although the Bid order exists due to NRS:

http://localhost:6876/nxt?fee=1&secretPhrase=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx&order=18116073350319174941&deadline=20&requestType=cancelBidOrder

errorCode - 5
errorDescription - Unknown order

BUT: the order exists!
http://localhost:6876/nxt?order=18116073350319174941&requestType=getBidOrder

price - 11300
account - 11964475374330713474
quantity - 2
asset - 16739598998421896224

##################

When I cancel an ask order, there is no problem:

ASK ok

http://localhost:6876/nxt?order=3756509216919668143&requestType=getAskOrder

price - 530000
account - 1738404304940813414
quantity - 133
asset - 16739598998421896224

http://localhost:6876/nxt?fee=1&secretPhrase=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=3756509216919668143&deadline=12&requestType=cancelAskOrder

transaction - 13961246592743727576

EDIT: I'LL try to make a new bid oreder, maybe this is related to the mutliple restarts of the testnet??

EDIT2: With a fresh Order, it worked - needs more testing! -

Can you take responsibility for the whitepaper (and it´s development)? Or do we have someone who is responsible for it? How do we stand now?

Nobody is responsible right now. Editable Whitepaper is on our Wiki.

No one is responsible = bad.

Let me just ask some questions to get a clear picture, because i can't accurately pin down what is needed:

1) Who in the community has the knowledge and expertise to write in the white paper, or work out things that have been put in? Feel free to just name people. Wink
1a) Do these people actually have time and are they willing to do the work?
1b) What do they need? Are there things missing that they definitely need to get started/continue?

2) Who knows of people who can do the audit and what exactly is needed for this audit? People who have already been contacted and said "no" don't count.
2a) If we don't know them, where can we look for them?
2b) I've seen names of "big" people in cryptography mentioned, but is this needed? If the proof is valid, does it matter if the "name" isn't big? This seems like an argument that only has marketing value, not mathematical value.
2c) If we can't get "big" names, is there anything to be said against taking a normal qualified person who can do the audit.

These are some preliminary questions, just to get the situation clear. Once that is clear, maybe we can take further steps. If I missed anything out, please point it out to me.

I have 5 friends that invested in NXT.

After 4 months they still don't know how to get a working client / opening an account.
They only see the software of JL where you have to create a .bat file which is hard for them.

They ask me all the time when a descent client is coming out what is safe and where they can create an account and forge etc.
I don't tell them, because I think they have to find them by themselves.

They are still waiting so I think we are doing something wrong here.

whitepaper is only in the stage when we ask other to help to finish it:
our little whitepaper is crying for help Cheesy

http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Whitepaper:Nxt

info:
Can we get a talk page created for the whitepaper please? It says I don't have permission to create the discussion page. Would be helpful to talk about what to include and what not to. Thanks!

Talk page for http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Whitepaper:Nxt has been created.

I'm sorry for the "locked-down" nature of the wiki.  It's not meant to be a barrier to entry, but I ran into problems last week because most of the tools I want to use to combat wiki-spam are NOT compatible with the tools that allow nifty in-place translations.  The only way around it was to set up gentle moderation.  I promise that anyone who asks for edit access will have it.  Create an account and then send me a note via http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Special:Contact and I'll add you to the correct user group.

Finally: I want to extend a warm thanks to folks who are sending in tips for the setup and operation of the wiki.  It's deeply appreciated, and I'm very glad to help.  The Nxt community is really terrific.

Hi people,

Just want to bring this up, again. How do we stand on the white paper and the audit?
How can we get it done? Can I help? (or anyone from marketing?)

Who do we need to contact and who can take point?

We've all the things we need it seems, and the things we don't we can work on, am I correct?

Can we organise getting this sorted?

Guys,

I just talked to someone who went to the Tal Aviv Bitcoin Conference and talked to a few MAJOR cryptography professors.

These people basically waved him away, and don't take Nxt seriously because it hasn't got a white paper and no cryptographical PROOF of it's safety and protocols.

This is still a gap in our documentation that we have.

Normally I'd put this in the main thread, but I want to bring it up here, because this is álso marketing.

The simple question is: do we have any idea of how the audit is going, and if not, can we get it?
This falls, for me, under the heading of "product testing".

If we can get the stamp of approval from academics, this is a major boost. If we can be waved away because, realistically, we have an untested product (actual use doesn't count, it needs to be rigorous mathematical proof) which can be poo-pood at will.

Can I have your thoughts on this?

Edit: nice write up, Uniqueorn!
