DGEX newsletter announces three developments:

1. DGEX fees back to 0% for NXT withdrawals, 0.15% for trades
2. DGEX Initial Public Virtual Offering still available
3. Offspring NXT client updated http://offspring.dgex.com

I'm only investing DGEX IPO if they promise to keep the HTML 2.0 circa 1998 on the inside.

sha256: 9778318546c73f5585669a560ab07af483d0b1ac5c30e3580ebf8524acae1825

Change log:

Several changes in the calculation of unconfirmed balances and
unconfirmed asset balances. This is an attempt to fix the
negative unconfirmed balance bug and "Not enough funds" error,
but hasn't been tested, this is why this release is experimental.

Enabled use of testnet just by setting nxt.isTestnet property
in nxt.properties. No other changes are needed.

When switching to testnet by setting nxt.isTestnet=true, peer
port becomes 6874, UI port 6875, and API server port 6876.
Those values are hardcoded to prevent mistakes and take
precedence over any custom port values in nxt.properties.
Also, when NOT using testnet, the server will refuse to start
if peer port is set to 6874, again to prevent accidental
mixing of real and test blockchains.

For testnet, a new subdirectory for the test blockchain will
be automatically created, nxt_test_db.

You need to set nxt.testnetPeers to a list of known public
test nodes. I have set up bug.airdns.org with the 0.8.4e code,
and a copy of the testnet blockchain, as obtained from holms.
I hope other people will also set up test nodes and announce
them on the forum.

In this release, when switching to test net, the Voting and
Asset Exchange features will be automatically enabled. On the
real net, they will still be disabled. The NRS UI client
however doesn't support those features, so you would need to
use a different UI, or use the http API directly.

Added nxt.knownBlacklistedPeers parameter, for manual
blacklisting of peers in the nxt.properties file.

No longer overwrite the peer address with its announced
address in the Active peers panel, use only the IP to uniquely
identify a peer.

Allow disabling of the DoSFilter for the peer networking
server. Added nxt.peerServerDoSFilter.maxRequestMs=300000
parameter, because the default value for the DoSFilter
maxRequestMs forcefully closes peer requests taking longer
than 30 s, which breaks blockchain downloads for slow peers.
This is very likely the cause for the Jetty error warnings
we had back in 0.5.x days.

Added Generator.getAccount method, and START_FORGING and
STOP_FORGING events, of interest to Java API clients.

Added run.bat script for Windows users.

Source code is now included in the release package under
the src directory. The compile.sh and javadoc.sh scripts
can be used to compile the source, and regenerate nxt.jar
and the javadoc documentation.

You forgot BCnext! Roll Eyes

I read this thread often but not planning to vote because I'm still not confident I'd choose the right people. If someone wants to campaign for my vote though, I'm all ears and might consider voting if given a compelling argument.

The things I am for are, making NXT competitive with Bitcoin as a means to purchase things, especially on the internet. The asset exchange and everything else is great and all but of limited interest to the populace at large &  I want NXT to be a household name. The way to do that is by becoming the de-facto mode of electronic transfer of wealth. Everything else will fall into place if that is successful.

I think Forgers need a reason to forge and asking for altruism from the users may not to be enough to secure the network. For me the question is, does NXT need average users to forge? If the "nerdtrepreneurs" who rely on the network are enough to secure the network; fine. However, if NXT NEEDS the small fries to also be forging then you (developers) NEED to find some way to reward them accordingly. It does not have to be a wind-fall, but it has to be something and it has to come faster. Even a smaller return at a faster rate is going to make NXT more satisfying, dare I say, ADDICTING, which is pretty much the unifying trait shared by most successful products in these ADHD times.

Marketing: I think the word is getting out pretty well on the marketing front. Partly because we are in a crypto-boom and it's a good product with potential and people are looking for the next big thing. Partly because of the efforts of people here and users/investors who are excited about it. That video that came out recently is incredible. Keep up the good work and enlist the users more.
More effort needs to be put on educating new users. There should be a major Dogecoin outreach program going on.

NXT FUNDING COMMITTEE VOTE IS NOW UNDERWAY UNTIL 12:01 AM MARCH 8 (UTC)

Per our previous poll, all three committees (NXTmarketingfund, NXTtechdevfund and NXTinfrastructure fund) will consist of five elected members.

Read candidate statements here:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.5280476

Background:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.5280786

DETAILS ON VOTING :

EVERY NXTer WITH AN ACCOUNT STARTED BEFORE FEB 21 MAY VOTE ON ALL THREE COMMITTEE BALLOTS.

If you want to vote, send me a PM with just the word VOTE in the title.  I will respond with your password and the voting site URL.  I will know who voted but I will not know who you voted for.

LIVE ONGOING VOTE RESULTS:

https://www.electionbuddy.com/elections/12343/results/t34ayqhm2

Update:  At 73 hours into the vote (I was busy an hour ago) and with 95 hours to go,  I have now distributed 355 ballot access codes so far to nominees, candidates, PM requesters, and everybody that has ever posted 10 or more times to this thread per newcn's list of most active posters (see https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.5456233 ).

I continue to examine the profile all PM requesters (a dwindling number) and have found all to be legitimate eligible NXTers with the exception of two new accounts discussed previously.

For my current ongoing ballot code blind mailings to NXTers on newcn's "voter registration list", I am including a link to the candidate statements and a request for the recipient to read them before going to vote.  Candidates, you can always go edit your statements and polish them a little if you want.  I think they're really gonna matter.

All ballot codes are going out by PM from me.  At the conclusion of this election, I will publish a list of who got what ballot access code and whether or not they voted.  At that time I will also PM my ElectionBuddy password to all candidates so they can verify from my dashboard there that I did not sneak in extra votes on my own to influence the results.  Trust no one.

NXT VOTER REGISTRATION LIST:

Considering that I'm just winging it here, things are going pretty well.  Here are the list of people that I consider eligible voters.  This list is in three blocks of names, and each block is roughly in the order these people are found in newcn's list of top 500 posters to this thread.  Direct requesters by PM are listed at the back of the first two blocks.  The first block of names (139 total) have voted.  The second block of names (215 total) includes everybody that has posted 10 or more times in this thread, and everybody in this block has an unused ballot code sitting in their PM inbox.  The third block of names (144 total) have posted between 9-5 posts to this thread and are people I would like to send ballot codes to but may not be able to because I am going to Austin tomorrow.  We may have to call the election with just the people in the first two blocks if I can't get more ballots out.  I think is OK if it happens that way because a cutoff of 10 or more posts to this thread is a reasonable selection criteria.   IF YOU ARE IN THE THIRD BLOCK OF PEOPLE HERE AND WANT TO VOTE, PM ME AND I ***WILL*** SEND YOU A BALLOT CODE.

This list by my tabulation has 139+215+144 = 498 people on it and we have 500 total ballots available to distribute to eligible voters.  This leaves me with 2 extra ballots for PM requests from people not on this list.

What happened with Vircurex? Price drops a lot.

Price relative to what?  BTC? Fiat?   There was a pretty decent BTC rally today. I bet fiat lost value.

EDIT: Now that Gox uncertainty has been removed from the crypto market by the release of Nanashi private Gox IRC chat and leaked 20GB Gox file, the crypto market can move forward and away from the corruption of traditional centralized exchanges.

There are some dirty words in the IRC chat like "was rootkit on gox" OOPS!  Embarrassed   http://pastebin.com/cbA09WwA

we have NXT/LTC pair on cryptsy NICE to have when you mining LTC Wink

https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/162

Who here is in contact with cryptsy? Is someone helping provide them with proper description and info on their coin page? It is currently shamefully inaccurate and seems like zero effort was given. https://www.cryptsy.com/currencies/view/118

1000 Nxt to whoever gets this done with nice accurate, well presented info. That includes the current logo.

What would differentiate a "Class A" asset from a "Class B" asset?

perhaps we could limit Class B Asset to not being able to have as many units/shares.

I see.

Although I like the idea, let us clarify what our goal is with this.

It's an interesting idea.

I think we should all remember BCNext's vision for NXT and his thoughts regarding fees.  I agree with BCNext wanting NXT fees to be low.  Imo, 1000 NXT for asset name registration is too high.  I think you should be able to register an asset name for 1 NXT.  By setting NXT fees high, we are excluding people from NXT because they cannot afford the registration price.  NXT should be for everyone.

you have to remember that what we are talking about here is self issued credit. i think its fair to expect that people who are issuing their own credit have SOME assets in reserve, leverage is good and useful but i don't think we want people leveraged at 0 percent.

I don't understand why not? Credit can't truly be self issued anyway. anyone can say "trust me, I am good for it" the credit is issued when someone else says, "OK, I trust you." at that point the fee is just inhibiting private business, which I am whole heartedly against. I can sort of understand the spam argument as a reason for a higher issuing price, as this potential for spam would have a universal effect on the whole community, But I highly disagree with using it as a means of policing private business, and that includes the name squatting arguments, the scam arguments. I could agree with raising trans fees for the AE, but I am with 2kewl on this. How are you going to charge NXT users more than people who are importing assets through gateways?

By charging such a fee anyone trying to sell anything on the market starts in the whole that much.Today About $50 bucks. So If you have something worth $100 it is not worth trying to sell. Really you would have to sell $1000 dollars worth of stuff to get the fee down to 5%. 5% is to high. Lower issue fees give more people more opportunity.

Think of the applicable uses this would eliminate. For example, If I were to want to sell a comic book collection by individual books, I would have to put a 1000 NXT mark up on every book. Any low cost per asset and high asset volume business would have no place on the AE.

Higher fees limit the versatility of the AE in the ways people can use it, restricts the number of users, and restricts the demographics of people who can use it. There are so many creative ways to use this feature if it is not restricted by high cost.

ok so perhaps self monetized credit is a better way of saying it.

i mean how many of this one type of comic book would you have? you dont need to build a market for 1 or 2 items only. you just sell the one or two items on something like ebay. you only need a market in a product that you either produce or have a lot of.

also this helps to protect against domain squatting. thats a really big deal since the person who acquires a domain is the monopoly provider meaning he has the leverage to charge outrageous prices as soon as he knows that someone wants it. if we didnt put a price on it than people would go crazy and reserve every domain imaginable and anyone who wanted to issue an asset would have to pay CRAZY prices. The net effect of making asset registration cheap would be that getting the asset you wanted would be orders of magnitude more expensive than if there was simply a cost for registering to begin with.

*edit* incidentally i really like the idea of having tiers of asset classes. that gives us the best of both worlds.

I mean absolutely no disrespect, or wish not to come across as attacking you personally, and intend nothing that implies any question of your character Anon136. To the contrary I owe you a debt of gratitude as far as what you have done to offer help and info to me in regards to this topic. But for the sake of being brief and out of respect for the users of this thread, I will be blunt. When it comes to this topic you are wrong.

I would like to suggest that this topic and any conversation or debate regarding it be moved to a topic specific forum or thread. This and other basic fundamental policies and applications regarding the AE should really be afforded discussion at length. Out of respect for the common usage of this thread, and due to the fact that this topic cannot be truly debated with the attention it deserves without writing pages and pages, we should continue this discussion in a more topic dedicated place. It seems as though you and others have thoughts about this that can't be expressed in a relatively brief manor, and I know I do. This topic deserves and needs to be discussed at length. Could you set us up a place to talk more about it with out disturbing the common usage of this thread, or suggest a place if one already exists?

I think my argument is pretty much entirely laid out in that previous paragraph, valid and bulletproof. however with that said, even though my argument is strong and valid, there could be advantages that i haven't considered which outweigh the mentioned disadvantages of free asset registration, or there could be other disadvantages which outweigh the mentioned advantages to a price on asset registration.

In the extremely unlikely event that my argument is flat out wrong or in the more likely event that it is correct but overlooking other advantages and disadvantages that outweigh those described in my previous post, i would very much like to hear about it. I created a thread specifically for discussion related to the asset exchange, tell me about it over there. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/nxt-decentralized-asset-exchange-discussion-thread-460343

Also remember that i am in favor of tiers of asset classes. This would allow for the market to naturally determine what the right tradeoff is. I would even be in favor of having a tier for (basically) free registration (atleast the cost of a regular transaction to prevent completely senseless spamming) just in case i happened to be wrong.

With 0.8.4e, to switch to testnet you need to set in nxt.properties:

nxt.isTestnet=true
nxt.testnetPeers=bug.airdns.org

This is the test blockchain as obtained from holms. Those who have test Nxt, should be able to access them. Please start forging, as the blockchain is days behind.

You also need to use your own 0.8.4e node for API and UI access - bug.airdns.org only accepts peer to peer requests, don't try to unlock accounts there or use http API against it.

Thanks JL.

Can someone pls send some testNXT to 858492554429534417? Original balance has disappeared. Thx.
