Now it's almost confirmed that West Indies will not qualify for the ODI World Cup this year. Scotland needs just 89 more runs, with 9 wickets in hand. And if by some miracle Scotland can win their remaining two matches (against Zimbabwe and Netherlands), then they will be able to qualify to the World Cup. At this point, it looks like Sri Lanka will qualify with ease. And this is going to be the first time that West Indies could not qualify for the ODI World Cup. They were the champions in 1975 and 1979, and played all the editions to date.

I will be happy if West Indies do not qualify for the World Cup. Because West Indies players are more interested in various franchise leagues than national team matches. West Indies players have not much desire to play in ODI and Test formats. They are very strong in the T20 format. And the West Indies team has been weak in ODI and Test formats ever since the senior players of the team retired. The West Indies Board did not make any attempt to solve this problem. And as a result, this team is not able to qualify for the World Cup.
In the history after 48 years West Indies have failed to qualify for the World Cup. The players showing much interest on franchise leagues is not by interest, but due to the salary and other issues that were running between the players and the West Indies cricket board. Lately it was during Lara in the team, West Indies were good in Test format cricket. For some time period they were good in ODI cricket and mastered T20 format cricket. Finally a big defeat in the qualifier isn't an expected one from West Indies, because the experience it holds compared to rest of the teams on the qualifier round is very big.

Scotland vs West Indies
Super Sixes 3rd match of World Cup Qualifiers started today. Scotland won the toss and elected to bowl. West Indies came down to bat and scored 42 runs by taking 4 wickets in 9 overs. West Indies are under a lot of pressure at the moment. Johnson Charles out for 0 runs, Brandon King out for 22 runs, Shamarh Brooks out for 0 runs, Kyle Mayers out for 5 runs. Scotland bowled well today. Brandon McMullen bowled brilliantly and took 3 wickets. If you can bowl well like this, Scotland will have a chance to win. Let's see which team can win in the end.
West Indies' quality of play was very poor in today's match against Scotland and they scored 181 in 43.5 overs which was Scotland's target and Scotland and West Indies played similarly but West Indies did not lose their wickets so they won the match by 7 wickets. Both West Indies and Scotland were almost equally strong teams. However, some of Scotland's strategy helped them win the match as they continued to save wickets . But in an ODI match, ending the match with such a score does not count as good play.  Such scores are also seen in T20 matches.

Two-time former champions West Indies have completely failed to qualify themselves for this year's ODI World Cup 2023 qualifiers. They are in 5th position with no points in the Super Six and are unlikely to qualify. Tomorrow's match between Sri Lanka and the Netherlands is no more likely for the West Indies to qualify if Sri Lanka wins. Moreover, if West Indies can beat Scotland with a huge margin in today's match then there would be some chance but unfortunately in today's match West Indies had a massive batting disaster and collected 132/6.

West Indies board is the reason for the disastrous performance of this team. In the next year or so I won't be surprised if this team goes in full isolation and dies from all ICC tournaments in the future. The players and the board should have a meeting and put back their differences aside. Good players are making tons of money playing in league tournaments why would they bother to play in the team?

Its high time for West Indies board to sit down and see what has gone wrong in there champs. West Indies once a finest and strongest Test and ODI team has gone down to level that its been beaten by associate teams. Today it looks very much clear that they are going to lose against Scotland also. Scotland deserve to win today's game as they have have done best first with bowl and now with bat. They deserve to play WC ODI and WI defiantly need to improve performance.

West Indies were a very strong team. They could challenge any team in the T20 format. At the same time, West Indies had a very strong Test and ODI squad. But the players of the team gradually began to give more priority to the franchise league matches than the international matches. And I also saw that they played in IPL without performing in international matches. The cricket board was completely silent then. And I think that was the first step to such a bad situation in the West Indies. However, the West Indies squad gradually weakened. And now they can't even win against teams like Zimbabwe and Scotland.

West Indies : Scotland

It was beyond my imagination that Scotland would win with such ease against a big team like West Indies. We have seen the batting disaster of the West Indies. They lost 6 batsmen to collect only 81 runs. And in the end, West Indies gave a target of only 182 runs.
The pitch condition seemed to be a bowling-friendly pitch. So I thought the match was likely to be competitive. And Scotland lost the wicket of their opener Mcbride before they could score any runs. But Matthew Cross and Brandon McMullen batted well. And now Scotland has collected 158 runs with the loss of only 2 wickets. Scotland needs only 24 runs to win.

Yeah, the Scots are in a good position so it's fair to say Windies are knocked out of the world cup race.

Weirdly surprised that a nearly full strength Windies team was beaten by not 1 but 2 teams and one of them was an associate nation. Scotland will become 2nd associate today if they successfully chased down this humble target.

Scotland vs West Indies
~~snip~~
Scotland and West Indies current World Cup qualifying match has taken an unusual turn. The choice by Scotland to bowl first appears to have been a wise one as they have been able to put great pressure on the West Indies team. West Indies performance today has been dismal as evidenced by their total of only 42 runs and four wickets lost in just nine overs. Brandon McMullen deserves praise for his outstanding bowling performance which resulted in three wickets for Scotland. Given West Indies dismal performance it appears very likely that Scotland has a decent chance to win this match. Scotland appears to be in a strong position to win the match given their strong batting performance and West Indies disappointing total of 181 runs in 43.5 overs.

West Indies bowled out just at 181.  Huh

A superb performance by Scotland! Because of their nice fielding efforts they need 182 runs to win. This will lead the end of West Indies' hopes of participating in the 2023 World Cup. It's truly disheartening to witness West Indies team's decline. Now, we can only hope that this phase shall pass soon, and they will come back even stronger. But, the question remains whether Scotland can hold their nerve and successfully chase the target.
Apart from Zimbabwe, all the other favorites in the World Cup qualifiers are performing worse than expected. Did anyone think West Indies could perform so badly before the start of the World Cup Qualifiers? Shame on West Indies that they were bowled out in 43 overs against Scotland and scored only 181 runs in those 43 overs. Even ordinary teams in T20 cricket now score 180 plus runs. In that case, how did a team like West Indies get all out for so few runs in ODI cricket?  If they play like this, they will soon have to leave the World Cup qualifiers and return to their country.

What is happening with West Indies team. Good players, but they aren't performing when the team is in bad situation. It looks like the team prepare themselves to play T20 matches and not ODI. Scotland have planned to play slow and reach the target. In most of the Matches the lack of experience leads the team loss even when the target isn't that big. In 10 overs Scotland have scored 40 runs losing the wicket of opener McBride. West Indies have good bowlers, but the pressure of low score will surely cause bowlers make mistakes.

Its just getting worse and worse for West Indies, already they have lost two games against Zimbabwe and Netherlands. Today West Indies had a terrible day with a bat. Jason Holder doing his best, scored 45 runs with bat and got wicket of Christopher McBride on very first ball. Scotland are batting carefully and they are not in rush to score runs. West Indies are still an experienced side and can do something with bowl, Scotland must keep this thing in there mind. After 10 over Scotland are only one down, good strategy so far from Scotland.

West Indies batting in the first innings in Scotland vs West Indies match. West Indies lost all their wickets for 181 runs. Scotland had a good bowling performance in today's match due to which West Indies could not score too many runs. But at the moment Scotland are batting they are doing a great batting performance for which their runs are increasing very fast. The way they are batting performance, their victory in today's match can be said to be certain. If West Indies can bowl well then it can be difficult for Scotland to win the match today. But Scotland have been performing well enough West Indies have not played that well when they are in bat. But if Scotland can play like this in the end then they will surely win at the moment their team runs 40 for 1 wicket in 10 overs.

Earlier it had a disappointing loss against Netherlands and this time the same gonna happen against Scotland. In 41 overs West Indies have collected 169/8 and with the small teams performing well these kind of scoring isn't enough to defend. The chance for West Indies to qualify is almost nil. Depending on the other teams performance for it to qualify is not good. As stated two time champion playing worse as this is really bad cricket from West Indies. The team should organise more training sessions or make some arrangements to have consistent performance which is more important.

West Indies blasted out for 181 by Scotland.

Too early to reach any conclusions, because yesterday we saw Netherlands failing to chase a target of 213. So I would be rather cautious about Scotland's chances. West Indies made some sort of a recovery BTW. They were struggling at 81/6 when Nicholas Pooran got out. But then the partnership between Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd added 77 runs. But in the end, Scotland wrapped up the proceedings by taking the last 4 wickets for 23 runs.

If you can bowl well like this, Scotland will have a chance to win. Let's see which team can win in the end.
Looks like another humiliating loss for West Indies as they lost their top 5 wickets for just 63 runs, really disappointing to see how they are struggling to play against associate countries, it will be a long road for them to recover from this situation. Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder are in the crease and they are the only hope to post any decent total but it is highly unlikely they could recover and win from this situation.

WI are in same position as Srilanka were yesterday. SL were  6-96 but then Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga helped Dhananjaya de Silva to take target to 213 runs. Dhananjaya de Silva scored 93 runs likewise WI are 6-104 at the moment, Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd are on the crease. WI desperately need someone to take responsibility like Dhananjaya de Silva, its high time for Holder to score runs for his side.
