Well Litecoin sure is trying to make a roaring comeback. Maybe the coins that have been around the longest and have demonstrated the most stability are the best long-term bets. Namecoin being an exception, unless they can totally change the protocol to allow .bit domains to work without the browser plugins. Namecoin still works perfectly fine as a currency, tho. It has more deflationary capability (good or bad, you decide) than BTC or LTC.

The whole point of cryptocurrency was it was supposed to be able to help the poor and middle class move money without having to pay ridiculous taxes and transfer fees.

Litecoin - cpu based and first major scrypt coin.

~BCX~

litecoin was invented as a break from and improvement on all alts before it, ie not to repeat previous crypto mistakes, cpu based as to not compete against btc mining.

(btw adding to ur points not debating them BCX as i know u know ur stuff)

so far in my opinion the most potential out of all cryptos todate.

As some one who was actually a very big part of the very first altcoin and many of the followers, that is not why they were developed.

OK fine, its why bitcoin was invented. And it was certainly a potential selling point, but its not any more.

yes, peer to peer currencies (and btc wasn't the first), are designed simply to leave out the greedy none productive middleperson, money changes etc btc itself also to aid micro-transactions.

something completely lost to the current bitcoin developers

now their are tons of 'money changes' in crypto.....taking their cut no different from fiat.

as for helping the poor, well no matter what your poison when it comes to currency those rich in fiat will always be those rich in the new currency.

most the 'crypto' crowd these days is the 'get rich quick crowd'

Namecoin was developed to provide an anoynmous and irrevocable way to register domain names
Ixcoin and Solidcoin - created expressly for the purpose of enrichment and to scam
Faibrix, Tenebrix - experimental coins
I0coin - The original Dogecoin created as a joke parody of IXcoin.

Litecoin - cpu based and first major scrypt coin.

Well, the core of the concept has once again been swallowed up by rich white people who could give a rats ass about 99% of the earth's population, so the interesting part of cryptocurrency is going away.

Now this forum is all spam and advertisements for shitcoins, run by - you guessed it - (the children of) rich, white people. If nobody is actually in it to help the world become a better place, then its no longer interesting or of value to mankind.

The problem with Bitcoin is deceit is universal.  It is hard to tell the facts from the fiction.  People who follow Bitcoin blindly listen to and believe anything that comes from the top.  One frequent lie is the amount of users of Bitcoin.  CoinBase claims they alone have millions of users and yet their web traffic, according to Alexa Rank, is less than Bitcointalk and there is clearly not millions of people using this forum never mind CoinBase.   Jeffrey Robinson was probably right where Bitcoin has 250,000 users or less.

If Bitcoin has no adoption after 6-7 years, what chance does Munera have?  None.  You can swindle the morons on this forum but that only produces a capitalization around $5.4 million.

Good products will result in adoption but good products do not yet exist.  All the Daaps for 2.0 currencies like Ethereum, NXT, Bitshares, CounterParty, et cetera - most of them are either illegal gambling (Augur is the latest best example), reinventing the wheel on blockchain, pyramid schemes or perpetual vaporware.

It is what it is, there's no stopping it now.  The only way is for the community to simply stop buying into the useless waste of space coins on the chance of a quick buck, which I have been guilty of in the past.
Either we stop supporting them or it's left up to the exchanges to be more strict on their criteria for listing, which I can't really see them doing as it would lose them money, certain exchanges are worse than others but equally most of the altcoin exchanges carry dead weight.

Anyone want to create a new coin?

We can call it "shitcoinbagholdercrybabycoin" and dedicate it to this thread.  Who's in?

I started reading this... I plan on finishing it some day. It is a very well put together document. I do have hope for NEM, but marketing as a means of achieving adoption/integration seems to be tricky.

The "incessant spam" approach doesn't seem to work... Just look at how hard the sad Maneuro sacks have to work just to keep their coin from crashing in price every day.

Once enough word is out about NEM (and the rest of the functionality is released in a new wallet version), I think it is one of those coins that has enough technical merit to rest on its own laurels, as the expression goes. It won't require constant pumping and board spamming, ala Maneuro.

It was fun for awhile, but the shitty forks have to either slow down or stop completely (I prefer the latter). Not only are you ruining this section, you are also devaluing any altcoin that actually has value. People are attempting to develop for these coins when they could be developing for the innovative coins, or bitcoin.

If someone wanted to see what Devcoin, Namecoin, or PPCoin (in my opinion the only altcoins with any actual innovation) and they opened this section, they would think that altcoins are just a joke.

I'm not saying that making an altcoin is bad. I'm saying releasing an altcoin when all you did was change a few variables is harmful to the community as a hole.

This problem could be greatly reduced if someone would just add Merged Mining to Litecoin. I'd have NO problem with all these forks of they supported merged mining. Hell, I'd start using P2Pool and merged-mine them alongside Litecoin.

/endrant

If it helps at all, Bitcoin Core 0.10 included a bunch of security fixes (BIP 66, but others as well), which I suspect most altcoins don't have the technical resources to adopt. That should clear a lot of the cookie-cutter coins out of the market.

Ha! If you guys only knew how bad it would get... I've never seen people sink to behavior so low on the internet as I've witnessed in the altcoin subforum. It truly is a disgusting pit of backwash of humanity. If 90% of altcoin devs were suddenly exterminated from the earth, it would truly be a better place to inhabit.

We are going to see even more releases next few months with the kids out of school for the summer. Get used to it. This is positive as it will kill off coins like ftc, yac, and other coins that serve no purpose.
