A few days ag I tested the stratum branch of BFGMiner but was not get an accepted share. Now I switched to the current bfgminer branch and see the same behaviour.

I had so set intensity to a large value (currently 20) in order to get the CPU load down to about 2%. The hashrate with a working miner is typically about 11Mh/s. System is an AMD E350 with 64bit linux. Any ideas?




maybe run https://github.com/slush0/stratum-mining-proxy/downloads and connect to 127.0.0.1:8332  ?

Does it work on other pools? Can you make a debug log?

Just a follow up on my crashing/BSOD problem Luke-Jr. It completely vanished when I switched to a windows 8 x64 install, haven't even seen a sneeze from it since. Smiley

I have a problem when building bfgminer 2.8.2 or 2.8.3 with MinGW. I followed all of the instructions but when i type "make" at the shell i get
"configure: error: Could not find jansson library". With 2.7.5 there's no problem.

Looks like Luke-jr has removed jansson (jansson is included and built in cgminer) from bfgminer. When Luke-jr copied/ripped-off cgminer he must have removed it and now you will need libjansson installed to compile successfully.

Looks like he decided to copy my documentation (windows-build.txt) and not modify it when he makes changes to his copied/ripped-off code.

I will not be updating the build instructions for cgminer or bfgminer in the future as only one donation has ever been made. It simply is not worth my time to keep it up to date (especially since I will be going to Linux only when my ASIC devices arrive).

I make references to "copied/ripped-off" but actually the term is forked. Luke-jr likes to claim that he was the original author and that cgminer was forked from his code, but that simply is not the case. Luke-jr did contribute code to cgminer and then forked the project to bfgminer.

Sorry, I disagree solo mining at low hashrates is pointless:
Solo mining today is basically the same as entering a perfectly fair lottery.
For CPU miners, it makes more sense than pooled mining where you are guaranteed to lose out on electric costs.
With solo mining, you write off the electric costs and if you hit the jackpot, you've got a nice bonus Wink
He said he thinks a CPU mining will make ~1BTC per year if you directed it to a pool. You're going to trade that 1BTC for a 0.000013% chance of getting a 50x reward? And that's at today's difficulty. Lets say the ASICs hit, and difficulty is 15x what it is today. Then you're talking about a 0.00000088% chance of getting a block. It's quite literally almost one in a billion.

I'll give you an example of chances and luck. I used to play one MMO game, where chance to get very good item dropped by monsters
was 0.000001%, and monsters were dropping 0, 1 or 2 items. Few friends of mine were totally addicted to game, and used to play over
12 hours per day, every day of the week. None of them ever got those very good items. One day I login, kill 1st monster that attacked
me, and got 2 very good items! No one belived me, of course. Than some days later, those two friends were in party, and few minutes
after I joined them, one of monsters dropped 2 very good items!

How high or low is the chance is of much less importance than if there is a chance or there is no chance, at all. Important to notice here
is what's on stake, and that my electricity bill is low regardless of if I'm mining or not. Heck, if I stop mining, I'll go back to playing games!

1. I go pooled mining and get around 1 BTC per year.
2. I go solo mining and get either 0 BTC or up to multiple times 50 BTCs.

Would it affect me if I lose 1 BTC? Not really. Does it make sense to null chance to get multiple of 50 BTCs just to obtain 1 BTC? No, LOL!

Check this video (fast forward to 45 minutes).

Moreover, you should understand that Bitcoin network is inevitably doomed if it stays dependant on miners who are doing it for profit only.

set solo mining and use debug and watch

maybe mine a solo block and see what happens

borrowing longpoll helps when blocks change and you end up submitting work to the pool while it is loading a new blocktemplate faster than if you didn't borrow longpoll

He is really mining at 25 mh, the 2.9 is the accept rate from the backup pool he "borrowed" longpoll from. At least this is what I see
His U: is 0.04/min. He ran it for 24 minutes and had 1 share. It's pennies. Either way, this discussion is pointless, as apparently I can't convince him it's pointless, and he can't convince me it's worth it. Back to the software talk. Aaaand go!

wrong its the MHash that would be neccessary to create all the shares, therefore he becomes only 10% of what he could become with his hashing speed.

You're really hoping to solve a block while solo mining with 2.9MH/s? Esp with the upcoming skyrocketing difficulty? That's like buying fewer lottery tickets when the jackpot gets higher, so that you can say your ROI is greater in the infinitesimally small chance you do win. I just dont get it.

Ahahahah ... Well, I might switch to load-balanced mode after a while (a week or two), but never again just pooled mining!

You're really hoping to solve a block while solo mining with 2.9MH/s? Esp with the upcoming skyrocketing difficulty? That's like buying fewer lottery tickets when the jackpot gets higher, so that you can say your ROI is greater in the infinitesimally small chance you do win. I just dont get it.
