I guess I should have iterated further. My theory is #143 and anisoptera are one in the same. Now, if I'm wrong, Good! I'll retract my previous statements, and feel like an a$$. But, go back and read page 7 and the first post on 8. It just doesn't look very good to me! The events (7GH/s increase) corresponded with the conversation at hand. Then another 3GH/s came in. I mean, all is good with more speed, but immediately after I stopped my miners, that 3GH/s person dropped to 500 MH/s or so. It all seems too coincidental. Again, I hope I am wrong! For the sake of the pool.

While these are both valid points, in the same amount of time, I could have made 3 times what my estimated has turned into. I could have went a day or 2 more, where my estimated was before this, and still been good! But, from that first post, the nonchalant way of testing the waters first. Then it was an all of a sudden defense mode. Then a threat, ultimately following through! As if, reedin' 'n edumacation is far to difficult for our simple minds to comprehend. We need to be shown! Learn through example!

Are you inferring that a pool hopper is doing this? Because that makes no sense. We have reached the point on this block where a pool hopper would have long left our pool. Not just entered it for the first time.

We all need to thank user 143 for doing us a service, whoever it is!

I agree... Your estimated earnings mean nothing if you never find a block!!

i don't see it that way at all RyNin.  while he is here he is doubling our chances.  that we haven't found a block by now is not his fault.  no one can expect to be lucky all the time.

My estimated gain went down a bit over the last couple of hours and I was mining full power.

143 is cranking out 7.5 Ghash's.  so he is gaining share while the rest of us lose it.  but, the flip side is that he is doubling our chance of finding a block, so its all good.

Thanks 143, you brought my estimated earnings down 0.5 BTC.

This was his intention! To prove a point, or teach us a "lesson"!

That is 4+days of mining for some of you, and now you watch as profit dwindles away. He is exploiting not only the pool, but all involved too. When my est. reward got to the point where it would no longer compensate for 2.5 days of my time, I left. Then his co-conspirator lowered his hashrate!

Additionally, the scoring algorithm is nearly complete. I will have to take a super small fee to make it count, but it shouldn't be more than bitcents per valid round.

What's wrong with the authorization process, I can't login both from chrome and IE. It just tells me "we'll be returning to the main page shortly", and there goes main page looking like I'm am not logged in.

I have no problem logging in in chrome/safari/ie/firefox. Do you have cookies enabled?

But what about those who have no idea the problem exists?

That argument is about the same as the one brought up with Firesheep. http://codebutler.com/firesheep

I do agree that the exploit needs to be exposed, and sometimes that requires a rude awakening, but if there is already proof then why enable further? Those that ignore the proof are already going to be hurt. Making it easier to exploit only hurts the ignorants who haven't heard.

I full heartily agree with you on the purpose, just not on the method.

Well, on a purely selfish level, if I implemented the exploit for myself, I'd be able to use all the pools with operators/userbases who are willfully sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting that there isn't a problem.

Right now, the number of pools with score-based distribution is 2, and one of those charges a fee and doesn't have LP, while the other has an interface that I don't find agreeable.

If I had an implementation of the exploit I'd be able to use all of the pools that I currently avoid because of this problem Tongue

Honestly, I'm not trying to be a bitch about this. It just kind of seems like the only way anyone will actually pay attention to the problem is if every proportional pool loses more than half its hashrate halfway through the round. Like I said, I'll publicize the exploit far and wide, but if I get a lot of pushback from a pool, either from its operator or from the users, then I consider it fair game. If you don't think it's a problem, then why should I refrain from doing it? I did my due diligence and spent my time trying to explain the problem. Now it's on you.

I understand you are trying to help improve security by showing us all the weaknesses in the system.. but writing an app to exploit that vulnerably is a bit overboard.
If you know that the problem exists and continue to contribute shares to a proportional distribution pool, you are implicitly agreeing to allow your payout to be stolen in this fashion.

But what about those who have no idea the problem exists?

At this rate we should statistically solve every other day

And yes, I do refresh the stats page in hopes of seeing: Last block found: x!
