Since the Sacramento Kings were the first professional sports Team to accept Bitcoin, maybe you should start there.

Really? They accepted bitcoin? For what?

Tickets and merchandise.

Cool! So is it Sacramento Kings alone. Bitcoin is that big in Sacramento huh.

Probably they are the only one right now. I wish NBA adopt for its own store, all teams included.

Any kind of sports that will get broadcasted through radio or TV will be worth to invest. This type is a good propaganda and will get much attention from public.

Bitcoin is not a company. Who will be the sponsor? Foundation?

Maybe someone with a lot of money and a big believer in bitcoin could do it. Would be pretty cool to see the bitcoin logo on a shirt.

I agree. The logo of bitcoin is somewhat catchy in style. It is simple but its catchy.

bitcoin does not need sponsorship, just like dollar does not need sponsorship. its for businesses such as bitpay, coinbase, overstock that should sponsor sport events for their business benefits.

the only reason dogecoin done a sponsorship is not due to it being deemed as a useful 'currency' (lack of actual merchant acceptance), but most see dogecoin as holding a bag of crap. and those holding the bag of crap would do anything to try passing their crap onto anyone they can. and would do anything to get noobs to buy into their crap

Yup no need for sponsorship.

There are far more effective marketing activities that Bitcoin could engage in, if it was decided that promotion was even necessary.  Sponsorship, in fact produced negligible returns that are almost impossible to quantify/account for

Why? You think bitcoin is that popular now? Then you are wrong. How about the people in third world countries where language is football and bitcoin is just nothing.

There's a massive difference though between fiat payment systems and bitcoin ones. Bitcoin probably is a long way of from a company sponsoring a premier league team.

A premier league team?  You mean like the NFL?  Yeah, probably not quite there yet.  How about something a bit smaller like a college football bowl.  Something like the St. Petersburg Bowl?

I meant the UK Premier League Football team, but your NFL example is probably the same scope as football in the UK or outside of the US.

Heard that seedcoin will be sponsoring Chievo Verona in  Serie A. Seedcoin is an upcoming alt coin tho. Bitcoin has a lot of power to sponsor a team. So who do you want bitcoin to sponsor?

Hi,

We have created jetcoin as a coin dedicated to the world of sports. We are starting with football and although it is not a bitcoin sponsorship we believe displaying jetcoin on various supports to a large audience such as football fans could trigger interest for all coins, including of course bitcoin. Part of the plan is to educate players, team managers and fans with the basics of cryptocurrencies and blockchain and show how they could benefit from the ecosystem we are building around jetcoin.

We have not made any formal announcement here as the coin is not yet available, more info at http://get.jetcoin.io

We'll make sure to announce the issuance of the coin on a specific thread on this forum.

Is it actually an alt coin this Seedcoin? It looks like it is a bitcoin start up,  but it's promoting this Jetcoin thing that looks like some sort of alt coin.

See here: Hmm http://cointelegraph.com/news/112425/new-cryptocoin-to-sponsor-serie-a-football-team

Seedcoin is not an alt coin, it is a Bitcoin startup incubator currently incubating startups like Hive, BTC.sx, meXBT.com, CoinSimple, Dealcoin, and more..

Jetcoin is the name of the coin sponsoring the serie A Italian football team ChievoVerona. To follow jetcoin related news please check http://get.jetcoin.io

Seedcoin supports the Jetcoin Institute and its vision of empowering young talent in sports and entertainment.

I don't think this really counts as "bitcoin" sponsoring something. It is something that bitpay is sponsoring to try to get more people to use bitcoin so they can process more transactions on behalf of their customers (and make more money from doing so). They already have a large market share in the payment processing world, however a merchant account is not profitable unless people use bitcoin to purchase things from them. By getting more people to use bitcoin then more people will likely use bitcoin to buy things from bitpay's customers.

Who will be the sponsor?

BitPay.  They already have:
http://www.stpetersburgbowl.com/

Maybe someone with a lot of money and a big believer in bitcoin could do it.

Someone like BitPay?

Would be pretty cool to see the bitcoin logo on a shirt.

Something like this?
http://www.stpetersburgbowl.com/

I'm sure maybe a bitcoin related business like a payment processor like Bitpay or Coinbase could eventually.

Something like the St. Petersburg college football bowl?

Neteller are now sponsors of premier league club crystal palace so why not bitpay or coinbase right.

You mean something more than the St. Petersburg Bowl?

There's a massive difference though between fiat payment systems and bitcoin ones. Bitcoin probably is a long way of from a company sponsoring a premier league team.

I dont think bitcoin community itself would be able to organize sponsoring a premier league team right now no.

Probably not, but a bitcoin payment processor like BitPay could probably organize sponsoring a college football bowl.  Maybe one of the smaller ones.  Some place like St. Petersburg?

Bitcoin won't ever be a sponsor for sports/teams but could be the currency to pay the real sponsors.

Well, bitcoin releated businesses may or may not sponsor entire sport or specific team in the future, but BitPay is already sponsoring a particular match.  It's a college football game in St. Petersburg.  Perhaps you've heard of it by now?

Sponsoring a team is expensive and requires a specific company "you can't relay on community donations to make a contract". I think with the current size of bitpay and other notable exchangers they can sponsor a 2 level football league team or a college american football team.

Perhaps an entire team in the future. For now, I think they're planning on just keeping it to a single game in St. Petersburg.

Any Sport that isn't eSport or some geeky novelty sport.

I suppose college football in the U.S. is a bit of a geeky novelty sport, isn't it?

Apart from the US soccer is a universally liked sport. It may be too expensive, but I could see that being the right way to go....

Hmm.  Start with U.S. football, and then move on to international football (aka soccer).  Sounds like a good idea.  Can't wait to see if it happens.

There are so many big sports out there that could benefit from bitcoins but I don't see bitcoin becoming an official sponsor at least not yet.

You mean other than the St. Petersburg college football bowl?
