Domain is great. I have two question for you.
Did you try to sell this domain to Coinbase? It is normal for them to buy. if I remember correctly Microsoft bought windows.com from windows washing company. they did not know it would be worth a one day
Also, whether your domain has any traffic? have you tried to check it?
I was gonna try selling to them if no one buys here. What's the best way to contact them do you think? Just through support?

Probably is the best to contact his support.
Maybe, before contact, you can list your domain on Flippa for sell. Even a site on this domain is not a bad decision. I think you can always to hire professional domain seller for this job with the fee.
You must know, domain selling is not without fee, and it is not a small percentage
alright thanks mate

What an awesome website you have there, why not offer it to coinbase instead though? Maybe you could fetch a better price if you sell it to them. Also, there is a chance that your buyer might be using that domain for malicious purposes and really create some havok for coinbase users around the world. The buyer for sure will create a phising site to hack into other people's real coinbase account.

That's true, I'll probably try that or listing it on an actual domain auction site

Why not sell to coinbase ... wouldn't trying to sell to them speak to their trade mark claim. I would expect its best to find another buyer unless they are approaching you. Offering it to them basically can look bad for any future claim of non infringement.
If I had that domain I would list it at some aftermarket sites despite the huge commission fees. Who cares about losing 20% if it gets you higher offers. Besides then coinbase might just buy it outright.

I agree and domains are a big part of what I do.
Do you have it listed elsewhere?

First off: Great domain!

It can be tricky to navigate the world of domains but coinbase itself is a generic term IMO.
Meaning it is legal to use for almost everything but an exchange in terms of the existing trademarks mentioned.
The process to "take" a domain from someone is expensive and uncertain regardless of the individual facts.
So is fighting back. But remember sometimes there is alarm without fire when it comes to domain names related closely to a trademark. Trademark owners can make a huge fuss where they legally have no rights. Sometimes being a bully works and people fork over their domains without even taking the case to tribunal.

Lastly: Great domain!

Thanks for writing this.
I think both sides have said all there is to be said about the "legality" of owning this domain so it's ultimately up to the buyers judgement. But nothing will happen to the domain because if coinbase.com wanted it they would have taken it already

I own the domain paypaltobitcoin I also own a cease and desist from a court.I can't use it sell it or renew it without breaking a court order.
Thats completely different. Coinbase's wordmark is only "COINBASE EXCHANGE" and their trademark covers trading storing and transferring of digital currency. And since coinbase was already an existing term used in bitcoin the domain can be used as long as the service doesn't interfere with the services of coinbase.com

Coinbase.io is 1 year and 5 months old. If I would have gotten a cease and desist I would have already gotten it

I've had two domains taken from me like this and I will tell you what, even if it is legal for you to own it, they will threaten you with legal action anyway and come at you because they can. Is the domain really worth that to you? Do you have the resources to fight it? It's not worth risking in my opinion....But hell what do I know?

I don't think it can be used to any bitcoin related business.
But ... it is just my opinion. It could be right or wrong.

WRONG. Coinbase can take this domain away from you and pay you $0.00

http://www.domainsherpa.com/6-ways-to-recover-a-domain-name-from-an-infringing-cybersquatter/

This happened to a friend of mine who own a "Hotmail" domain and Microsoft got it within a few weeks and he walked away with $0.
Not true. This is not how it works. look up "Trump.org". This guy got sued by Trump Inc for trademark infringement, and won (Trump inc didn't pushed the lawsuite tho), this means you can use domains of other companies if you do not intend to use it for malware, or confuse customers/try to make profit from it, from what i've read.

But, i am not sure if domains such as gmaio.com are allowed. Anyone knows?

Gmail could be taken only if the website is related to gmail in any way like a phishing site or a clone. If its just a normal random site it would be fine because trademarks don't cover mis spellings unless its meant to distract or confuse customers

Yep it's a case by case basis. Obviously if you're trying to steal customers it's copyright infringement. Coinbase is an actual blockchain term so if you use it for anything to do with bitcoins that isn't an exchange you aren't infringing on any copyright.
So this is similar to blockchain.info wallet, blockchain is a bitcoin term so people pcould use blockchain in other domains and not make a wallet and be fine
So a bitcoin related chat room is okay
