I have written a tutorial for updating for anybody who in here had questions or is confused... or maybe just updates wrong in general. Some of the questions and things I've seen people posting on how they update is painstaking.


Its a fairly painless and quick procedure if you do it correctly.


The tutorial is geared towards DeepOnion but can be used for most QT wallet software updates out there. (Minus verification step obviously)


Hope it can help beginners out, and possibly give anybody else some quick and easy tips.

I agree with you, I don't think so either. Like you said their may be a few weak hands that drop out, but that makes room for serious people. Which will ultimately make DeepOnion stronger.

Good one sir, I was always thinking why people had to download the entire chain over and over again....
And I agree that you cannot have enough backups. Just keep them at a safe place....

A quick tip for all those updating to 1.6.3.

I have seen a few users post about how they now have to redownload the entire chain and it takes ~3 hours every update..


If you are having to redownload the entire chain every update, your not updating properly and making it a lot harder on yourself!!!



When you update your wallets... ALWAYS back up your wallet.dat file, back up your private keys...(they dont change, unless you add new addresses. There will be one for each address. but always have that down because wallet.dat files can become corrupted), verify new QT wallet through DeepVault, then close your current QT wallet version.

Replace your Old DeepOnion folder where ever it is in C:\Documents etc with the contents of the NEWLY downloaded folder, or just replace the DeepOnionQT.exe it self into your old DeepOnion folder ((NOT THE APPDATA FOLDER, where your exe is stored))

Open the NEW DeepOnionQT.exe file

and BOOM! your good to go.




You shouldn't be deleting all of your APPDATA folder everytime, ESPECIALLY your wallet.dat lol.

If you do that everytime you update, you will have to redownload the entire chain from scratch... where its really as simple as a quick back up, and a close/open of new version... easy-peezy.



Dont make it harder on yourself!!

Also again please dont always forget to back up your wallet.dat files.

I tend to back up mine almost every week at least. There are times where you may get a conflicted transaction and the only way to fix it is to revert to an older wallet.dat. Its happened plenty of times to me. You can NEVER have too many backups, in too many places of all your secure data!

To many people considering 2 months to be a long term HODL.
We are still in the early days of Crypto. Let's see who is capable of HODLing at least 1 or 2 years.

I don't think that this community will abondon this great project. Insiders know that this will be a success story.
Maybe a few weak hands / get rich overnight people will leave, but we can do without them and they will regret it.

I agree, we will may need luck but the project itself isn't made only by luck, it has lot of fundamentals and with upcoming features we will se real development.
I also think that the end of the airdrops is a great test for the community, we must react as one to proof that we are the great community that everyone are claiming.

Yes, luck is never superfluous, well, hard work and clear goals are better.

Power is real and power is great. Airdrops were just a preparation phase. Next year will be the real deal!

I'ts a general saying, but I don't like the "good luck" in this case. That would mean that if all hard work leads to success. people will call the project Lucky.

I agree that it's wise to accumulate at this price dip, but this is definetely not the finale. This was the warmup lap, we are still getting ready for the game.

So the airdrops are almost ends. I think now DeepOnion community will meet whole ordeal. And the way how you react on this will show your real power ) Gl you guys.
