I think the only thing that's required is a large pile of cash.
Very expensive to get supported by trezor / Ledger.

I might be buy a 5k of coins, if the price would be right)

Some people might sell, but there is also going to be pressure from people waiting for that day to buy. So I wouldn't be surprised it the price did actually go up on that day. Even if a person wants to sell on that day, would it really be wise to sell on a day when others are might be doing the same thing? It's like, "Oh yeah, lets sell it at the end of the airdrop, because others are going to sell and so we can sell the Onions that we have worked so hard for, for the cheapest price of the year."

i have mixed feelings regarding what will happen to price at the end of airdrop, i bet devs are reserving us a surprise eventually, maybe announcing a major exchange in same date, that will sure drive price up and stem demand for onions

I think the reaction after the airdrop will surprise a lot of people. Of course a few will dump but I have confidence that the coin will grow so I think a lot will be waiting in the wings to snap up the coin. I think we will go up in value.

There will maybe be a short term dip right after the airdrops but I think that after that the real life of DeepOnion will start. Of course a lot depends on the whole market and if the trend is growth or decline.

I was editing my post to update that, as you say, some of the info is not accurate; for example Stealth Addresses have been released and will be usable with the new 1.6.1 wallet after block 460000. Also, the Android mobile wallet has been released.

Unfortunately not all people visit the forum or the bitcointalk regularly to find out about this update.

Maybe a new feature can be added to the DeepOnion wallet where the devs can send warning messages to be shown in a text field, at the bottom of the wallet, such as "Warning: Updated your wallet before the fork." This way, all investors can be made aware of new announcements.

I don't think it will be difficult to program the DeepOnion nodes to send a message to the wallet once they are connected.

Hey @bizul, this is an awesome idea! I'm sure that the message could be included in the same blockchain with a predefined format, and when the wallet processes transactiones it could also check for these kind of "broadcast" messages. Is @brakmic out there?

I'll be sure to add it in VoteCentral when I'm accepted, however, I think adding messages to the blockchain is just useless information to the blockchain itself. I was thinking more about the nodes sending information to wallets every 30 minutes such as update warnings or Tor vulnerability warnings and other similar necessary information. Well, I get your point, maybe instead of adding the same message some kind of flag could be used (that's just one bit) that would make the wallet aware of news, and then it could pull them from the nodes.
