This proposal is to modernize the DeepOnion codebase to include the latest features and BIPs from Bitcoin. The code rebase will allow us to have segwit and a deterministic wallet, thus allowing us to integrate with and get support from Hardware Wallets (such as Ledger Nano S and Trezor), and in the future, we can easily integrate with lightning network and enable RSK smart contracts. Tor integration completed in new code rebase (follow other news at DeepOnion VoteCentral).

If you have v1.7.1.1 then maybe you haven't checked the new website either? I recommend that you check it out, you'll find lots of interesting things and you can even get an update on how development on certain features is progressing too.

If no mandatory wallet update is out, the older version should work just fine also
