The problem, can onion compete with monero, if it has just privacy feature, onion has to offering more than monero, it can,t compete with the competitors, if onion is just following them
Onion has clearly a different approach regarding their technology and they are definitely not competing with Monero. This coin is taking its own pace to proceed with all the projects laid out in their road map and whitepaper. They are doing this step-by-step with no regards on what other coins are doing. It is actually a very good thing because the community doesn't need some coin who is just here to compete with others.
Deepen your research regarding Onion and you'll what we're talking about here. You are free to join the official forum of Onion to voice-out your suggestions and concerns. The community that we have here listen to every suggestion especially if it has a good point for innovation.

Just wanted to add that DeepOnion is still a very young project, though it already has a bunch of nice features and the dev team is hard working.

DeepOnion is a active project, every suggestion should be welcome, but I think right now road map is quite clear for the next months, there is already StealthAddresses and DeepSend to introduce, I think dev team should be concetrated primarily on that.

It will have functions like smart contracts, you have to check the road map.
Or DeepVault, VoteCentral, a own forum and a strong community. Pretty good start for such a young coin.
