Under the measure, digital advertising by Google and social media giant Facebook, as well as subscription-based services like Netflix and Spotify will be subject to value added tax.

Salceda noted that companies which offer streaming services do not pay taxes, while Google and Facebook are not subject to any VAT for advertising.

No new taxes here, we just want them to pay their fair share,” he said in a statement.

Inu-ulit ko lang ang tax na ito ay para sa mga kumpanya na nabanggit sa house bill for their digitized businesses and the proposed taxes sa bill ay hindi apektado ang mga users ng mga services na ito which I think is a good thing for us, right? I mean Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and maybe even Snapchat will all be paying taxes, di nalang sila yung palaging kikita sa atin dahil tayo ang "product" ng mga social media websites na ito these companies don't have any offices in the Philippines pero they profit from us sa tingin ko yung tax na ito ay magbabago nun.

The current problem of the Philippines right now is where the government withdraw a budget to sustain everyday life of the citizen.

Imagine, almost 2 months since the lockdown was announced. Our economy falling down by 2% see here because of pandemic. And due to the lockdown, the production of goods and services slide down as well. Therefore, where will the government withdraw the budget to fight COVID-19 and enable us to sustain when it comes in health and necessities?

It might help our economy to atleast lessen the exhaustion.

Besides, we need to have tax also for these ads and online service because we are earning here. Assuming na mataas ang bayad for transaction fees plus tax, it will really burden the seller/buyer.

I just saw this one news sa television. In this new era, marami na ngang gumagamit ng online transactions, mapa bills payment man, loading and banking transactions, etc. Even some of those businesses ay gumagamit na din ng online subscriptions and payments.

House ways and means committee chair and Albay Rep. Joey Salceda is pushing for taxation on digital services—specifically, subscriptions to video and music streaming apps, ads on social media sites, and making online sales platforms as withholding tax agents—to offset an estimated P120 billion in foregone revenues once the government cuts corporate income taxes to 25 percent to soothe the pain inflicted by COVID-19 on businesses.

What is you opinion regarding this?
