I heard MT Gox scammed a few people Tongue

Too soon? Tongue Undecided

Not really an online wallet, though. Although, it did seem like quite a few people did use them as a wallet, mining address, etc. Pretty crazy. I would have thought after so many scams by centralized bitcoin services, that so many people wouldn't have trusted an exchange to be a wallet service... but knowing this community, this will only continue....

I hear people are still mining to them and some pools had to block the addresses

And someone on reddit just sent mtgox 800 btc

Unbelievable. A trustless, decentralized currency, and people became so used to sending their coins to a centralized exchange for storage that this is still happening! Quite unnerving....  Undecided

TBH, I can't really understand why some bitcoiners want to have a "bitcoin bank", when the most important point of bitcoin is decentralization.

Buy and sell bitcoins,
I lost some at Instawallet, but AFAIK, that wasn't a scam and was a legit hack. I just didn't bother to recover my funds, since it was so little at the time. It was less then 0.1 BTC and they were not worth what they are now, so I didn't bother.

Buy and sell bitcoins,
My first and last lesson with online (3rd party) wallets was Inputs.io. Didn't keep too much on there -- less than 1 BTC. But it was a real wake-up call when I found out it had been "hacked".... Roll Eyes

Keeping it in your computer is safest, just don't get key logged and hacked Tongue. Well anti-virus and firewall should help.

It is definitely safer to store the bitcoin/altcoin in your personal wallet rather than on an exchange.
Anti-virus and firewall should help, but you should also use common sense to avoid downloading "strange" files.  Smiley

can't remember which site it was but it was a LTC wallet lost 2LTC

NEVER EVER go for a online LTC wallet, just download the client. There are 1/10 legit litecoin wallets out there

Multichain seems legit
But I don't have alts so it doesn't matter

Multichain?  Huh
I tried a few google searches, but have no luck....

Yeah Google hasn't picked it up yet

http://multichain.net

Thanks for the link Smiley

multichain seemed also be "hacked" and down
Stop using online wallet! Use a famous exchange is still a little risky, but at least better than using online wallet, especially free online wallet! If the guy who run the scam website can not get reward with the "free" service, there is more risk that it is a scam!!

I got done by Instant-e as well.

Trying to withdraw litecoins and they just never show, neither does a TX ID.

STAY AWAY!
