Uber is literally the worst. They admitted to tracking everything people were doing on their phones, they lie about enforcing rules for background checks, but everyone wants to keep fellating them because "lol free market at work". They are the definition of bad actors. They don't give two shits.

sorry if this is a stupid question, (i know what is Open Bazaar) but what is Uber?

There was a story here in Australia this week about some bloody do gooders making citizens arrest on Uber drivers, probably hired by the taxi operators.

This is what happens when you threaten a long standing industry.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I just stole this from cypherdoc:

Gov't responding to the desires of vocal constituents.  I think that's pretty normal.  Not that it's necessarily correct, but I think it is the way things normally work.

I completely agree.  An industry is being changed massively, it'd be crazy if it didn't go down without a fight.

The Taxi Mafia can bribe the govt to ban Uber and prohibit ridesharing all they like.

Decentralized transportation networks like LaZooz cannot be stopped...   Cool

Taxi unions must be shitting themselves but why would governments care or try to shut down car pool services?

If a country bans Uber, that would be a great news for freedom. I just can't understand how some people can enjoy this service. It's like having the CIA watching all your moves. Taxis are anonymous and you can pay cash, that's what I like.
not everyone needs a cloud of anonymity, in fact, the majority of the public does not care about their privacy until they lose it. Uber is a brilliant service, and I think that can be demonstrated by their success. Methinks you might be a little paranoid, but maybe you have reason Wink.

Seems like a massive over-reaction, it's like banning breathing so you cant get lung cancer. Maybe common-sense will prevail...

-snip-

(note: its just plain stupid to ban Uber just because 1 Uber driver is a criminal. also normal registered taxidrivers killed and raped customers in the past.)

-snip-

U r trying to oversimplify the issue here. Uber said they do police verification, whereas they dint. Uber costs far more than normal taxi service in India. Why will customer pay extra for false claim ? This is a case where authorities are taking correct step.

Uber is banned in ONE city in India.

A judge has ordered taxi booking service Uber to immediately stop operating in Spain, after a series of protests by taxi associations.

In his ruling on the temporary ban, the judge said Uber drivers didn't have official authorisation to drive their cars and was "unfair competition".

The move follows a complaint by the Madrid Taxi Association (  Cheesy ! ).

The Spanish ban comes just a day after Uber was blacklisted in the Indian capital Delhi.

please also ban ebay because there are scammers!
please also ban paypal, because they fuck their own customers all day and keep their money for no reason. please ban pornsites because some try to infect my computer with maleware.
please ban online shops, because some cheat and steal your money without sending stuff....or ban the Internet and we are all free and happy!

(note: its just plain stupid to ban Uber just because 1 Uber driver is a criminal. also normal registered taxidrivers killed and raped customers in the past.)

its like in the early days of the internet..."bad internet, be carefull! dont go there!"  Roll Eyes

Can not speak about Spain, but I am very much aware of the case in India. Uber simply did not do what they said the authorities that they'll do for customer safety. They hired a driver without police verification and said the authority that they only accept drivers after verification. This is clear cheating with customers. Their charge is far higher than normal taxi service in India and they are not giving value against customer's money. There have been multiple cases lodged against them for consumer protection and if they dont comply to the laws of consumer protection, THEY SHOULD BE BANNED FROM INDIA.

This is quite terrible, I don't think that they understand what they are doing.

Are people who Carpool going to require a license from now on? Do they need background checks?
Maybe we should shutdown the government because of individual politicians indiscretions.

What about all the Crimes commited by Taxi Drivers? Maybe we should protest in the same way, I don't remember such background checks ever being done by Drivers that rent vehicles with Taxi licenses.
