I think it is good to see openbazaar collaborate with TOR, I am happy to see Openbazzar really care with bitcoin concept which is anonymity, hopefully this bring more customer and user, but the one that Openbazaar need is the advertisement and more people transaction using bitcoin from Openbazaar

Long back itself open bazaar has been used with the help of VPN services. Hopefully the collabarative use of Open Bazaar along with TOR makes it more ease for all sort of necessities. Hopefully the bitcoin usage in Open Bazaar doesn't require any advertisement or promotion. It gets spread easily through people using it, because lot are expecting to have a highly anonymous transaction but doesn't have any idea.

All I know is that I know nothing.
Seems to me that it doesn't matter that much.

I know anonymity is important to some people but this brings a lot of bad publicity to Bitcoin with the darknet and illegal activities, with things like Silk Road, and this won't necessarily be great for OpenBazaar.

Then again maybe publicity doesn't matter too much, since Bitcoin is a fairly anonymous service in itself.

these are two sides of the same thing.
on one side there is adoption and we need good publicity in general so that people stop listening to the FUD and start seeing bitcoin for how good it really is.
but on the other side, there is no stopping illegal activity such as silkroad incident and all other darknet things.

i say as long as there is more power in the good side, meaning some legit big companies accepting bitcoin, the negative side doesn't matter. the same way fiat is used for illegal activities.

Tor does not provide 100% anonymity. If you use Tor servers for 3 months, you are 50% likely to be identified.
In addition, browser leaks can be used if your credentials are detected.

You need to be careful while using Tor.

Yes it's not 100% anonymous but you can be much safer when no background windows services are running. I use tor on Linux so that I'm certain that no background processes are running. Windows has lots of background services running.

The privacy is not related to the operating system you are using. Your actual IP address can be determined when you use Tor servers all the time.
The NSA is working on this. If a person uses TOR for 3 months, 50% identity can be established.
There is no effect of using windows or linux here. Of course my recommendation as an operating system is always Linux.

IMO Tor's not really that important for mainstream success. It needs to acquire more users, and the priority should remain with that.

Tor is no longer secure as It used to be but still that could be a great add even though I didn't see any changes in the daily statistics[1] since OpenBazaar launched so I don't think this feature could change anything. In the same time , I'm a little bit concerned because this could bring more people that care too much about privacy and that could turn OpenBazaar to another darknet marketplace.

You are right we do not need to be anonymous in buying from a bazaar. And its true that too much secrecy in transaction could transform the bazaar into a black market and sells illegal items. But overall a bazaar is great as long they will not sell unwanted items that are deemed taboo by the government and society. This could just be a good way for cryptocurrency to grow and possibly elevate to the next level.

Tor for the open bazaar usage is good, if user need to have an anonymous sources. Tor along with VPN service increases the security. As one of the user mentioned, if continuously used it is possible to track and identify.

OpenBazaar + Darknet = illegal goods being advertised lol. But that might not be the case in here and to be honest, TOR isn't actually needed for such a marketplace. It might just add some doubts over the platform being on TOR and besides, TOR is not 100% safe anyways but who knows. Just an honest personal opinion, this particular support from OpenBazaar in TOR is not really amazing and surprising to say the least.

It is awesome, people can deal drugs and fires there, you know the dark net market promotes bitcoin adoption, tor is beneficial for them to hide real ip.

Just a little improvement and their stats still same. It's won't give a new user but just improve the privacy of the users of the encrypted network. They are seriously need something is big. The partnership with common online store.  Roll Eyes

I think that in general its a good direction to go but like as been said many times Tor is not as secure as a alot of people think and this could lead to problems for some people.

Personally, I think is good that they implement TOR on OpenBazaar for the people who anonymity is very important. In my case is not a concern and I will not use it.

I personally think that it's inevitable that vendors of illicit goods on centralized darket marketplaces will use Openbazaar.
I've seen some talk on the darknetmarket subreddit of vendors that are considering opening up shop there.

Just the fact that vendors do not have to pay any fee for joining and the decentralized nature of Openbazaar, makes it a logical choice for them.

There is trouble abrewing
i still think Openbazaar needs to become more user friendly instead of all these. the TOR support is also more for advanced users not for novice users that may want to use the platform like they use ebay.

OpenBazaar was a much waited for project to be launched, but turned out to be a big disappointment.

I don't see how them supporting TOR will have that much impact on OB as platform. Problem is still that they greatly lack recognition throughout the entire crypto industry.

As long as that doesn't change, there is not much to be happy about. They just need to market it properly so it gets the amount of users that it deserves.

maybe its good for OpenBazaar to develop and use TOR support and they can get more benefit from this. but for me, i think if they use TOR, then i think they give support for black market and i think they can get trapped with illegal activities because we don't know what people buy with TOR support.

I don't really care about TOR support that much, I even think it is unnecessary. TOR is not that amazing as people usually think.
But someone already mentioned here there is always a risk that Open Bazaar will be put into dark market category just because of that new feature.
What I think is happening here - OB developers want to make their platform more popular, but I don't think TOR is the best way to achieve that.

and that could turn OpenBazaar to another darknet marketplace.

this is always one of the concerns and one of the things that come with additional privacy and anonymity and there is not much we can do about it. and to be honest i was thinking about it too.
i don't know whether to be happy or sad about it, because on one hand it will bring lots of new people in and will increase the price a lot, so in a speculation standpoint this can be great.
but on the other hand the bad publicity is never good in the long term. silkroad already had its bad effects on bitcoin.
