OPEN markets

https://openbazaar.org/
OpenBazaar is an open source project to create a decentralized network for commerce online—using Bitcoin—that has no fees and cannot be censored.  Put simply, it’s the baby of eBay and BitTorrent.

https://github.com/OpenBazaar/OpenBazaar

Right now, online commerce means using centralized services. eBay, Amazon, and other big companies have restrictive policies and charge fees for listing and selling goods. They only accept forms of payment that cost both buyers and sellers money, such as credit cards or PayPal. They require personal information, which can lead to it being stolen or even sold to others for advertising or worse. Buyers and sellers aren’t always free to exchange goods and services with each other, as companies and governments censor entire categories of trade.

project website: http://www.seed-factory.org/
Wikibook: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Seed_Factories

A Seed Factory is a starter kit of digitally controlled machines, which can expand in three ways to a larger and more capable factory:

* Replication - Making copies of its own parts
* Diversification - Making parts for new machines not in the starter set
* Scaling - Making parts for larger versions of the machines

A sufficiently expanded factory can produce new seeds, thus starting the growth process over at a new location.  Ideally, a Seed Factory would be able to copy 100% of it's parts and be 100% automated.  Right now that is not practical, so we are aiming at a high percentage of both, supplemented with outside parts and labor where needed.

The Seed Factory Project has the goal of demonstrating this type of self-expanding production.

Greenaddress
www.Greenaddress.it is a web wallet that implements deterministic wallet technology as well as payments through social media. Neither your seed nor the private keys generated from it will be stored on their servers. However this does leave you with the responsibility of securing your seed and your account, as you are also able to view your seed from it.

www.Frozenbit.io, on the other hand, has more of an emphasis on utilizing multisignature technology to secure one’s bitcoins in a trustless manner.

tldr; dud, devcoin is boring, and incoherent atm, and ranking in 5000 coins per block, the smell is faintly scammy
tldr; good idea, poor execution (DEVelopment)

Devcoin  - an ethical cryptocurrency

The purpose of the devcoin is to give money to open source developers for their work in as fair a manner as possible.

Devcoin takes a different approach. Only 10% of newly created Devcoins (DVC) are paid out to miners, through merged mining alongside Bitcoin (meaning that people can mine both Bitcoin and Devcoin on the same machine, at the same time). This is sufficient to secure the network, but leaves 90% of newly minted coins left over, which can then be given out for free to open source developers—and also creative commons media producers.

Payouts and bounties

Newly created coins are paid out in the form of bounties, designed to encourage the development of a wide range of open source projects from new software, to hardware products such as new forms of 3D printer. There are even tentative future plans to finance a bounty for the development of a single seater open source spacecraft capable of exiting and re-entering the earth's atmosphere! Developers can also earn DVC through the Devcoin and Bitcoin share lists, which reward active open source developers within the cryptocurrency community.

New web services are also under development which will allow anybody to create or to help fund bounties for new projects.

Writers can also earn Devcoins by contributing articles to the Devtome wiki. All work submitted to Devtome is published under a Creative Commons license. Quality is maintained through a ratings system, and writers' compensation is calculated according to their quality rating and the number of words published.

Earned Devcoins can then be spent at a small but growing range of online retailers, or changed for other currencies through an exchange.

Licenses for programming and hardware which qualify for devcoins are the AGPL, Apache, BSD, GPL, LGPL, MIT, public domain, and unlicense. Web code must be licensed under the AGPL, to close the web services loop hole, it could also be dual licensed.

The lab provides hosting for more than 160 projects, including those of worldwide leaders like the Apache Software Foundation, the Linux Foundation and Drupal. Together, the OSL’s hosted sites deliver nearly 430 terabytes of information every month to people around the world.

http://www.openstack.org/

Openstack has been growing in popularity over the past few years and recently we’ve started to look into it further here at the OSL. We plan to continue to use Ganeti for our high-available IaaS needs, however we’re researching ways to integrate Openstack at the lab as well. While Ganeti provides a solid, stable and simple platform for general IaaS needs, Openstack provides better support for elastic and dynamic needs. We feel that using both platforms gives the best of both worlds, because they each fill a specific niche in a cloud environment.

Earlier this year we teamed up with IBM to work on deploying Openstack on the OpenPOWER architecture with the goal of expanding our Supercell infrastructure beyond the x86 architecture. Thanks to the hard work by both the IBM and OSUOSL team, we’ve been able to deploy Openstack on four IBM OpenPOWER machines which support KVM and little endian.

https://code.google.com/p/ganeti/
Ganeti is a cluster virtual server management software tool built on top of existing virtualization technologies such as Xen or KVM and other open source software.

Ganeti requires pre-installed virtualization software on your servers in order to function. Once installed, the tool assumes management of the virtual instances (Xen DomU).
