Hey,

Apologies for brining up this old thread.

I just purchased a grid seed miner and apparently there isn't any mac support. According to the seller, it should work with a little tweaking.

Thread is here - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/guide-gridseed-5-chip-usb-blade-black-miner-supporttuning-482352

Any MAC user have any luck mining with this miner or similar?

What about GPU mining?
I posted a how-to guide for GPU mining Litecoins with cgminer and bfgminer here.
How did you go about making the homebrew formulas for cgminer/bfgminer? I'm on 10.6 so the tutorial doesn't exactly work out for me...

What about GPU mining?
I was using my MBP and didn't see any value in trying GPU mining.

Great post. I started mining LTC on OSX and had to piece this together bit by bit. If I had access to this guide a few months ago it would have made my OSX LTC venture a lot easier. Hopefully this will help people moving forward.

Greetings all.

** DISCLAIMER ** I accept NO RESPONSIBILTY if you break your machine, damage your CPU, ruin your MacBookPro, damage your iMac etc etc. This guide is provided AS IS and should be used to experiment only ** DISCLAIMER **

I found it to be a bit of a pain to try and get LTC mining working. Initially I only wanted to try it for some experimenting with LTC. When I realised it was not easy to get working I got somewhat frustrated....... anyways I believe I now have it working and to help other community members I hope this little thrown together guide helps.

OK - First off. This is a CPU Miner for OSX Mountain Lion Guide. I didn't try scrypt GPU Mining as I have a MBP and I am really only experimenting.

So of we go. First thing we must get is a LTC Wallet.

I downloaded LiteCoin-qt here

Start it up, get an address and begin downloading blocks to get caught up. This is your LTC Wallet setup and running/syncing.

So now we want to mine! Let's get all those LTC goodies  Cool

(1) Upgrade your OSX to the latest build - [10.8.3 as I write this]

(2) Open up AppStore - search for Xcode and download/install Xcode. This is an Apple development platform for Mac. This is REQUIRED

(3) Once Xcode is installed we then need MacPorts [again another Mac Development tool] I have the Mountain Lion latest build here

(4) While they are downloading decide if you want to SOLO or POOL - This guide will focus on POOL MINING. I signed up with http://pool-x.eu/ but there are many out there.

(5) Now everything is installed/downloaded we have to configure XCode/MacPorts a little/update it etc before we begin mining. Open Xcode from your Applications folder and follow the instructions and accept EULA etc. Run the package obtained from step 3 and follow instructions. Once complete:

Quote from: From a Terminal Window perform the following
sudo port -v selfupdate -- This is updating Ports.
sudo port clean wget -- Performs a clean up for wget files if any exist.
sudo port install wget -- installs latest version of wget.
sudo port clean openssl -- Performs a clean up for any OpenSSL files.
sudo port install openssl -- Installs latest OpenSSL Libraries.

** if you get an error relating to COMMAND LINE TOOLS please follow this step.......
Open Xcode then from the menu "Xcode -> Open Developer Tools... -> More Developer Tools... -> Command Line Tools (YOUR OSX Platform) -- Grab this .dmg and run the pkg file. Once complete go back and run your sudo commands above ^^

(6) Hopefully now your LiteCoin-qt client has synced and we are ready to mine!

(7) Browse to the folder you downloaded CPUMiner to [/Users//Downloads/CPUMINER] from Terminal window.

(Cool Sign up to your mining pool. Get your slave user/pass -- I used pool-x.eu as mentioned. Once confirmed from your mining pool start miner by running:

Code:
minerd --url http://mine.pool-x.eu/ --userpass pool-x.userName:pool-x.Password

And that is you. I also advise you obtain smcFanControl and play about with your miner settings to try and keep your Mac safe.

If this helped please feel free to tip Smiley I can help through PM or this thread. Good Luck!
